Nashville Predators Latest NHL Team to Whore Out Jersey

Disappointing news today out of Nashville, where the Predators, whose jerseys were ad-free last season, have announced that they’ve sold space on their jersey to a bank. The advertisement will appear on the team’s home and away jerseys.

Nashville is the 17th NHL team to have a jersey advertiser, which means the teams with ad-clad jerseys now outnumber the ad-free clubs in the 32-team league.

The Preds will also be wearing a 25th-anniversary patch this season. The anniversary logo, which was revealed back in May, would probably have appeared as a chest patch if not for the new ad, which has pushed the anniversary patch to the left shoulder:

(My thanks to Trevor “Teebz” Alexander for bringing this one to my attention.)

Wow, NHL ad patches are coming fast and furious. Gross, but still much better than MLB’s gawdawful sleeve patches.

Agree 100%. I’m a huge hockey fan and while I certainly wish there weren’t ANY helmet or jersey ads, I’ve found the NHL versions to be far less obnoxious. More often than not, the colors tend to match and they’re rather small. One notable exception being the gross Montreal Canadiens’ jersey patch.

Isnt “Whore out” just a little dramatic? Especially since the Oilers didn’t get the same treatment?

Funny, I read the headline and thought it was great that you were calling it exaclty what it is.

Nope. It’s perfectly appropriate for the situation. But after so many NHL ad announcements, some variation in the headlines are admittedly necessary.

Is it offensive? I can’t keep up but I wouldn’t be surprised if people thought it’s a term that shouldn’t be use since it might disrespect people of a certain line of work.

Hopefully the small advertisements are where it is going to end. I would hate to see ads be the dominant part of the uniforms. It was awful years ago in the WNBA and think it is horrible with the soccer kits. When it gets to that point, what is the purpose in a team name/mascot?

Interesting and ironic, the unbridled contempt expressed by this site for uniform advertising, considering that every visit I make to the site is met with a “turn off your ad blocker” pop-up.
