Ewww: Penguins Announce New Road Jersey Advertiser

Just in time for the start of the regular season, the Penguins have announced that they’re selling space on their road jersey to a financial services corporation.

The advertisement will make its on-ice debut this Friday, when the Penguins play their first road game of the season in Washington, and will remain in use for four seasons.

The Penguins announced a new road helmet advertiser a few weeks ago, so the whoring out of the road uniform is now complete.

Sure, because what’s better on a Pens sweater than a corporate logo infused with a touch of Crapitals’ red, white and blue?

    Dear God, make it stop.
    -C.

That would almost be like the Mets adding a giant square ad patch in Phillies colors…

That’s not even a patch right? It’s embroidered into the jersey? I at least thought the home ones had a patch sewn on.

This is pretty awful. I must, however, comment on something that I know you would pick up on in another publication: the photo you’re using with the Mr. Yuck face of the Pens’ mascot Iceburgh, is outdated, showing him in the miserable “Vegas Gold” unis of the past. I’m glad they’re gone!

Does anyone not notice the hypocrisy here? I count 4 ads on this page, one that stays at the bottom and a pop-up ad.

I also believe you’re right, Brian. They’ll keep spamming that article every time someone calls them out though.

Not at all. I’m saying (1) that you’re making the mistake of comparing apples and oranges, and (2) that you’re mistakenly suggesting that I’m opposed to all forms of advertising.

If those two things aren’t clear, I suggest that you go back and re-read the page that I linked to.

    So second post. Reply maybe!?

Okay if you say it’s apples to oranges go back and change any mention of you or the website in the article you linked to any team name. Now tell me if it changes the gist of the article. It also goes the other way if plug you or uniwatch into the articles you’ve written about the jerseys ads. The only difference is when the team is involved the economics are on a much grander scale.
