Tampa Bay Rays Announce City Connect Unveiling Date

We’ve known for a little while that the Rays’ City Connect uniform is due to make its on-field debut on Friday, May 3, when the team hosts the Mets. Now, as you can see above, we know when they’ll be unveiling the design: Monday, April 29.

The Rays are one of nine MLB teams getting new City Connect uniforms this season. Here’s the rundown of the other eight teams:

  • Phillies: Already debuted.
  • Mets: Scheduled to unveil today and debut on April 26, but there have been several purported leaks.
  • Tigers: Scheduled to unveil on May 6 and debut on May 10, but there’s been a purported cap leak.
  • Guardians: Unveiling date uncertain; on-field debut scheduled for May 17.
  • Cardinals: Scheduled to unveil on May 20 and debut on May 25.
  • Blue Jays: Unveiling date uncertain; on-field debut scheduled for May 31.
  • Twins: Unveiling date uncertain; on-field debut scheduled for June 14.
  • Dodgers: Unveiling date uncertain; on-field debut scheduled for June 21.

(My thanks to Twitter-er @vic_dubve for bringing the Rays’ announcement to my attention.)

This might actually be a decent uniform as the Rays have not produced many missteps in their history so far.

In the 00’s they had a bunch of wonderful throwback uniforms (Tarpons, Smokers, St Pete Saints, St Pete Pelicans). Would love to see something like that. Not optimistic, though.

I liked those, but they killed the ‘real’ throwbacks. I don’t think they’ve worn a real one since they started w/ the 70’s fauxbacks.

I’d love to either see, stacked “Saint Petersburg”, or arched “St.Pete” on the chest of these unis.

Paul, you were not kidding about the busy uni news day. Thanks for being on top of all this!!

Wonder if/when any leaks will come out, since this billboard gives absolutely nothing. As a Rays fan, I have confidence in their design sensibilities, so hopefully this one will be in the upper tier of CC unis.

If the colors of the billboard are any indication, it’s nice to see a team actually using their normal colors for a City Connect uniform.
