They should probably rethink this whole college basketball thing. Texas A&M in black, Kansas State in … white, I guess. Bad doesn’t do it justice. On an otherwise delightful day in college basketball, this is unfortunately an enduring image. Unless, of course, you’re like me. Through several hours of deep concentration (I found a self-study tape on eBay; had to buy a cassette-tape player, but it was totally worth it), I now have no recollection of Saturday. Ignorance is bliss, friends.

But I took notes in order to bring you this. That’s Baylor’s Tweety Carter (No. 20) in what is likely the blood jersey. His usual number is 45 and the Bears are an NOB team. Plus, dig the Nebraska cheerleaders in the background. Cool socks, even though they’re Adidas stripes.

I’m going to put the finishing touches on my igloo today. Projected high in Omaha: 17, with 20mph wind and snow showers. Awesome. — Bryan

Neat crossover, but thank goodness a one time only promotion.

A&M players were also wearing maroon T-shirts under their black jerseys. Didn’t think that was allowed.

There was alot of cool things in the Shrine game last night…most notably the inclusion of schools we’ve never noticed before, especially those north of the border like link. As well as an exciting player from a non-scholarship 1-AA program at link with a cool uniform. Unfortunately, I vividly remember that uni because in college I played against USD all four years and was administered a butt-whooping each time!

Not uni-related at all but it’s been bugging me for a while so I’ll ask anyway. Paul Smith, the quarterback for Tulsa played in the Hula Bowl. He also played in the East-West Shrine Game. Is that allowed? I’ve never seen the same player play in two college all-star games. I have Uni Watch to blame for my conundrum because there was a picture of Paul Smith playing in the Hula Bowl for an Open Thread one day.

What’s it say that as soon as I turned on the K-State and A&M game and saw A&M in black jerseys I knew they were going to lose.

As a KU fan, I’m actually not bothered that much by the Trajan font on the jersey. What really bothers me is that the neckline has red trim, but the sleeves are white trimmed because the red stops under the opening. When seeing it from the front it just doesn’t look right. Either all red trim or all white trim.

As I recall, the rule says that a T-shirt under the jersey must match the color of the jersey.

OTL Weekly had an interview this morning with the Bills equipment manager about dealing with the cold temperatures during the Browns-Bills blizzard a few weeks back. Didn’t watch the whole thing, but the video should be on the ESPN website soon.

    Oh, c’mon Bryan! 17 degrees? That’s a heat wave!

I have an outdoor hockey game today (yes, the league plays all its games outdoors). The weather?

    -25C, and -36C with the windchill. That’s a balmy -13F, and a gorgeous -33F with the wind!

Good luck with the igloo, though. I’ll be in the deep freeze, trying to keep my toes and fingers warm. ;o)
Maybe I’m just wrong, but I love the black unis.

Oh, and those NU cheerleader unis were awesome.
I disagree with both.
The hamartia of the black jerseys are the dark numbers. Are they black or maroon? Precisely my point. Numbers need to have high contrast for easy readability so that referees can call fouls on the right people.
Those Nebraska cheerleader uniforms are hampered greatly by the random stripes that lead to nowhere. I’m not a fan. And shouldn’t the bosom logo salute the school? Why on Earth are they wearing “08?” Yes, it’s 2008, but it looks dumb.

I believe, though, that if the entire team wears the same colored undershirt it is allowed.

in high school, you are allowed to participate in 2 post season all star games.

for college, i dont think there would be any regulation for these players as they have exhausted their eligibility. i would assume that in this case, with football, they wouldnt be considered fbs or fcs players anymore and not under that arm of regulation. in this situation its nothing more than a senior going on multiple interviews, right?

Thanks LI Phil. I am in Green Bay as I type, and the feeling here is electric! Every where you go its Green and Gold. That temp gets colder and colder whenever I look at it. I was at Stadium View Bar last night in GB, and walking outside with a coat, hat, gloves was unbearable after about 30 sec. But, don’t worry… I will be bundled up like no ones business tonight. I will take pictures when I get to Lambeau. There is no way I am going to let the cold get in the way of me watching the Pack dominate tonight.

Game time temps will be below zero, but when Favre hoists that George Halas trophy, I will be a balmy 75 degress!

And is Bryan really calling 17 degrees cold? That will be close to 40 degrees warmer to where I am tonight! J/K Bryan, I guess living in Wisconsin all my life, I am used to this stuff by now.

I remember the 82 Chargers @ Bengals game. The things that stand out most was, when you have a -69 wind chill..is that everything looks hazy and gray. like being on the moon. it was beyond belief. i wasn’t even there for the game! my radio station was passing out GO BENGALS paraphanalia, and for some reason I decided to go.
We used a car that students from Miami University painted orange with black stripes—fun, but crazy!

Four years earlier, i do recall WALKING ON the Ohio River—it was frozen solid.

In the CBS pre-game show, leading up to the AFC Championship Game, they had Steve Sabol talking by a Patriots and Chargers helmet, which were facing each other. The only odd thing was that the Chagers helmet was not one of their current white ones, but one of last seasons navy ones. At this point, and for this big of a game, you would’ve thought CBS would try to get that right.

Good to see something about my 15-2 Baylor Bears on here. Last year we had black road unis and it pissed me off but we got it right with Adidas and the green aways.

Someone needs to photoshop a helmet with a yellow “C” on it, with a green dot, and one Sponge Bob band-aid on it……

In the actual CBS pre-game show, leading up to the AFC Championship, they showed a clip of Phillip Rivers talking and he was wearing a shirt with the Texas Tech logo on the left (anatomical) chest. I found that extremely odd, considering Phillip Rivers went to North Carolina State.

To clarify the Tweety uni number situation. I sit in the student section at the Nebraska games, and we flat out asked Tweety what the deal was and he confirmed that it was an issue with changing his number (from 45) and hadn’t gotten it yet.

I was watching the AFC Championship game on CBS, and between the end of the first half and the start of the halftime show, they showed a commercial for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. It’s the one that’s made to look like a GPS device. Very late in the commercial, they show a guy on the right side of the “street” in a navy blue jersey (possibly UConn). I’d have to watch the commercial again, but at first glance, I swear that the video of him had been flipped for the commercial. I’m almost positive that his jersey number and school was backwards on the front. Any body else notice this?

Being a K-State alum, I can’t say I love the purple, but their white jerseys sure look better than A&M’s black jerseys.

No one loves a smartass. And besides, Mr. Clark is at home this week.

I noticed yesterday that a local news channel here in Providence used the Chargers old blue helmet for their preview segment on today’s game. I wrote it off as them just not being up to date for a lack of interest here. But today I noticed that the ESPN Gamecast is using the blue helmet, what gives? Of all places not to be updated, ESPN?

CAN 2008 began today with the host nation taking on Guinea. WorldCupblog has a link with some comments. On the field link seems to me a minor improvement from WC06 and link looks nothing like the one shown in the Kit v. Kit post. Ghana won 2-1 by the way.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ on a Stick!

I am going to abhor this Super Bowl. For two reasons.

One. Everyone outside New England hates the New England Patriots for their cheating.

Two. I fucking hate the New York Giants because they’re in the same division as the Philadelphia Eagles, the NFC East.

I am so going to so motherfucking hate the next fourteen days. I’ll just watch the Suoper Bowl for the commercials and the Tom Petty halftime show, because I am in a no-win situation.

You’re right, TOG. I hated when they changed to those uniforms a couple years ago because they have no blue, except for their socks and helmets. I hope the Giants get to wear their home blue jerseys in Arizona, which they actually wore for their first two playoff victories this season. Unfortunately, the Patriots probably have the choice because Pittsburgh had it two years ago when they chose their road jerseys after making a similar run to the Giants this season. Maybe NE will choose white, but I doubt it. They look good in either.
We’re going to the Super Bowl!! WHOO!

TOG – They rotate the 6:30 slot between the AFC & NFC every season. No choice to make. It would have been cold either way.

I almost died a little when I heard that Tynes was coming out for that OT kick. According to a stat FOX showed earlier, that would be the longest FG by a playoff opponent in Packers history, since nobody had made one over 40 yards prior to tonight.

    Question:
If the Packers win the NFC..and if the NFC is the home team in the SB..do they wear the Lambeau logo on the jersey? And if so, where does the “C” go? You’d have a “C”, a Lambeau, and a SB patch.

    No worries.

There is no doubt there guys were wearing any shit they had available to stop them for going hypothermic on the field, and said let the NFL fine us, who cares, better than frostbite.

And what super Senior Executive scheduling executive dumbass at Fox said “Hey, let’s have the NFC Championship Game start at 6:30PM at Lambeau Field”.

I will never ever understand the depth of stupidity at the Networks, CBA, NBC, ABC or FOX…ever?
italics off?

    Hopefully this ends the italics.
I noticed something while watching the Giants game. (Sorry, no screen grabs.) Anthony Wright #2’s red helmet stripe comes to a halt in the back, so his white rear number is on blue. But Lawrence Tynes #9’s stripe goes all the way, meaning his white rear number is on red, which I think is proper. Anybody else catch this? I think this would be a good question for Mr. Skiba.
Why is that Baylor jersey (NNOB) referred to as a blood jersey?
because the NCAA will not allow you to play with blood on your jersey. So all teams have to carry one jersey (at least) with NNOB and a number different then anyone on the team in case somebody gets blood on theirs. hence ‘Blood Jersey’

Man, I can’t remember who it was, but there was a Giants player with his zipper unzipped in the first half of the game. It MIGHT’VE been Jacobs or Bradshaw, but the TV replay gave a really clear view of the guy’s zipper wide open as he ran out of bounds.

If you have the game Tivo’d and are planning on watching it again, look for a play in the first half, where a Giants player gets pushed out along the sidelines. I know, pretty vague description, but it’s the best I can remember right now.

NO NO NO…sorry minna, but BIG BLUE does not belong in red…now the away whites, with predominantly red piping/striping are ok…i preferred their aways from 2000 (almost the same as today, except they were outlined in blue and they wore the ‘home’ pants)…but today’s aways are link…im still wearing my #10 away jersey as i type this

the RED alt has to go…i know it too is a throwback, but next year i want their alt to be gray…i doubt it will happen, but earlier this year a little birdie hinted at it…im sure skeeb could enlighten us, but i doubt he’d be at liberty say even if he knew

I think Ryan Grant lost part of his left side G, but haven’t found it yet.

how long have the Giants worn those throwbacks? is that their standard uni now? I just dont like all of that red. Their regular whites look so much better to me.

The blue and white jerseys are permanent home and away jerseys, closely modeled after throwbacks. (Today, they have a metallic blue helmet and the front number font is more modern. Throwback? You be the judge.) The red jerseys are not intended to be throwbacks at all, even though the Giants have a red jersey in their history. Those red jerseys had khaki pants and a Michigan helmet, neither of which are in the present ensemble. The red jersey is designed as an alternate, as it is simply the blue jersey, subbing blue in favor of red.

Scrolling thru the Cubs Cooperstown jerseys, I’m wondering why M&N can’t get it right:
78 Road Eckersly, Sandburg, Santo – Nice numbers on back, but wrong font. But why not use numbers from Braves blue 80’s road jerseys? For $200, what do you want? And NOB? No number on front. Scroll ahead, and for $100 more, they get these details right on the 79 Sutter rd jersey… but didn’t the circled mean Cubbie Bear start that year? . Cool jerseys, though. But nothing beats the 68 road.

Er… upon closer inspection, I see that Majestic made the jersey’s I slammed above. And the Mitchell & Ness jersey is the only one that’s almost right. I didn’t realize that Cooperstown was being farmed out. Nevermind. Sorry, Mr. Mitchell. And Mr. Ness. Ah… how’s the weather in Philidelphia? (As I slowly back away…)

Alot of cool sighting in the Giants/Packers game.

Gotta love detailed analysis of cheerleader uniforms (even if they are Nebraska). We need more pics of them, for research purposes.

The Cowboys, and most other teams, would simply hang a banner/sign recognizing them as “2007 Division Champs”. Good laugh though with the “Participant” ribbon.
