Major League Baseball hasn’t yet unveiled the uniforms for this year’s All-Star Game, which will be played in Seattle. But we now have our first look at two examples of the ASG caps, thanks to a Chicago-centric website that has prematurely listed the headwear for the Cubs and White Sox.
The designs match the motif of the Rangers’ All-Star workout cap, which leaked last month. In case you’ve forgotten, here’s what that one looked like:
We only had that one screen shot of the Rangers’ cap, so it wasn’t clear whether the chevron design on the side wrapped all the way around the cap. Based on the newly leaked Cubs and White Sox ASG caps, it does not wrap around:
In addition, the MLB logo on the back of the caps is rendered in Mariners colors:
Some of you may be thinking to yourself, “Wait a minute — the Cubs and Sox are in opposite leagues. Shouldn’t they have different cap colors?” I actually thought that myself for a moment, until I remembered that all of last year’s ASG caps were black — only the jerseys and pants were league-colored:
So they’re apparently sticking to that format this year, although it remains to be seen what the colors will be for the rest of the uniforms.
The All-Star Game will be played on July 11. That’s just over three weeks from now, so we’ll presumably see the official uniform unveiling soon.

We may have covered this already, but I’ve noticed that all the MLB special event caps this year have side patches. Do you suppose this is a dry run for eventual advertising patch placement?
No. Side patches on caps have been around for many, many years. There’s nothing new about them.
MLB may behave horribly in many ways, but that doesn’t mean that everything they do is a sinister plot.
The side patch seems like the new trend with the younger collectors. Websites like Hatclub Lids & even New Era Cap.com itself are constantly unveiling “exclusives” with older side patches from playoffs & World Series past , even though they aren’t the official hats worn on field
I suppose MLB has hopped aboard that Merch-Dump train as well
Side patches aren’t a new trend. It’s been around for a while but only feels like it’s gaining steam.
An interesting base color; it sort of evokes clothing from Columbia Sportswear or something like that. It goes well with the Mariners colors. I wonder what a Mariners road uniform in that color would look like.
(Having said that, I much preferred it when the participants wore their own team’s uniforms at the ASG, and wish they would go back to that tradition).

Go to New Era’s Portugal site…there are more examples of each team’s game hat and workout hat (presumably for the HR Derby). Not every team is there, but there are quite a few

Well, if this is any indication, we should have at least a slightly more aesthetically pleasing look to this years All-Star Game.
Based on last year, I’m thinking jerseys may be navy and that sea foamy blueish-green, logos and wordmarks in teal? Maybe even the mountain design on the sleeve cuffs?
If one is Navy what color do you think the other will be? White?

I get why the All-Star game hats have designs on the right-side panel, but why is that 90% of the hats NE makes now a days has a patch on them.
Right. I have two or three hats with a side patch. But I strongly dislike the trend of side patches becoming the norm, so much so that regular hats without side patches are now called “plain Janes”.
I just wish they’d wear their own uniforms like they used to do in all-star games. See 1979.

Not bad, the chevron can be seen as some sort of wave or mountain. I do not mind this side patch but I am in the camp of people who see this as a testing ground for future ads. I know side patches have been around for years but in this day and age of putting ads on everything I am not that gullible anymore.
