Do coaches really need to be presented with a jersey when they’re announced at team press conferences?

On a side note, Michael Jordan seems to have the same taste in suits as my favorite Cavs player of all time, World B. Free. — Vince

its almost as ridiculous as when the Nats had a jersey to introduce Austin Kearns’ resigning with the team

At least we got to see the Bobcats’ navy alternate jerseys. I think they should switch to those full time as their road uni.

I dont know about full time, but they should wear them more often. Thinking about it, the Bobcats have awkward colors. Their main color isn’t red, its not orange, but a mix of the two. Same with the blue, its not really navy, but more of a navy and gray mix. Navy + Gray = Gravy, that’s what we’ll call it

We should probably call it Pacific Blue, since it looks like the Seahawks blend of blue / gray.

Notice how Michael’s lapels form a “V” for Vincent. That’s the only logical explanation I have for anyone wearing a fashion that only barely raises its head every 30 years. Love Lloyd’s white socks too.

I’d call that shade of blue royal blue, but like the orange it’s a shade darker. It would be boss on a baseball or football uni.

This guy from the D-Backs was exhibiting the good ol’ “D-baacks” word mark on his jersey, but not because his jersey folded just the right way or a breeze opened up the space between the buttons. No…it happened because his top two buttons were undone!

This is something I’ve started to see way too much in major league baseball, and it is really ticking me off. Sometimes I wonder why they even wear baseball uniforms anymore, because nobody knows how to wear one properly.

They need to get a little step stool for the Bobcats owner.

Does a gentleman who is 6’6″ really need a pinstripe suit?

Anyone remember that M*A*S*H episode when Trapper John got the pinstripe suit made by a local tailor and the pinstripes were going horizontally? Classic.

Not really uni-related, but #22 for the Nashville Predators, Jordin Tootoo, has a new girlfriend…..

You would think the first thing Mr. Tootoo would do is tell his new girl that its inappropriate to use the world “Eskimo”.

What’s confusing me more than why would the Bobcats new coach be holding a jersey is why the hell is it a #2 jersey?? It’s not like it is 2002 or he’s the #2 guy making decisions during games. Could it be because he is the 2nd head coach in Bobcats history? Anyone know for sure?

And that pinstipe suit that Jordon is wearing is just too much. It looks like it should be accessorized with either a tommy gun or a feathered hat and pimp cane.

Seriously, every time he pitches, it seems like someone realizes Reyes’ stirrups for the first time

hidden deep within the hockey trading deadline article it says that the Predator’s owner is selling. Most likely the buyer will be a billionare canadian who could move the team to southern ontario.

Anyone else notice that the Brew Crew’s rookie Ryan Braun was wearing a Pearl Izumi sleeve thingy last night? Sorry if this is a re-post, I didn’t want to look thru 200+ comments

Going off of yesterday’s comments… I believe the Green Bay Packers would technically be the Ashwaubenon Packers. I could be wrong, but I think that Lambeau Field is on the Ashwaubenon side of the street and not the Green Bay side.
How about the link worn by Anthony Reyes.
How about the fact he looks like a douchebag with his flat brimmed hat. He looks almost stupid enough to cancel out the beauty of the socks.

Lambeau is on the Ashwaubenon side of the street but I am pretty much certain it is city property. That is why GBPD work the games and I’m pretty sure city sanitation and the public works department maintain the stadium on and after game days.

If you make royal blue darker, shouldn’t it then be dark royal blue? The blue on that jersey looks gray.

Anybody with a box of 64 Crayola Crayons handy? That jersey look like Cadet Blue and the side panel like Red-Orange.

What’s funny is that I said the same thing after his previous start, and he still can’t win a game.

I’m confused: are you making a joke? This story broke three days ago. Leipold and Balsillie already both had press conferences on Thursday to announce the deal.

Eskimo is inappropriate now? Sometimes its hard to keep up…

Just wondering– how long before its inappropriate to be over senstive?

ESPN right now, Big East Baseball Championship. Pitcher for UCONN has some hellacious striped stirrup socks goin’.

“Eskimo” has been incorrect for about 10-15 years now. It’s a term used by other First Nations to refer to the Inuit: it means, iirc, “Eaters of Raw Fish”. The proper term is “Inuit”.

However, given the content of the rest of that quotation, I bet you she knows all of that….

Also, Jim probably won’t move the Predators this summer, unless he’s got properly sneaky plans: there’s really nowhere here in southwestern ontario to put a team at the moment.

Just watching College baseball on ESPN, Rutgers vs. UCONN. Is Rutgers wearing BROWN undershirts beneath their vests? I can’t tell.
And check out the socks on the UCONN pitcher–suhwheet!
Watching UConn vs Rutgers. Some nice link on a few UConn link. Unfortunately they’re also wearing purple. Shot from link game.
I’m watching the game…and not seeing any purple. And I agree with the person before me…it looks like Rutgers is wearing brown undershirts? Or are they black shirts that are incredibly sunfaded?
Unfortunately they’re also wearing purple. Shot from link game.
Why is it “unfortunate” that they’re wearing purple? I don’t see what’s so “unfortnate” about it; in fact it looks pretty sharp.

although its not uni related going back to earlier posts its not inappropriate to use the term Eskimo. Some tribes prefer Inuit or Inuit Eskimo over just eskimo but they are hardly offended by the term. Its not like the n-word or other terms. You could say in Canada its fallen out of favor, but hardly inappropriate. In Alaska its fine. Its more to seperate themselves from Alaskan tribes rather than being offended by the term.

I call it slate blue. It’s the same color the Avs wear: too dark to be called royal, but not too dark to be paired with black–because everyone knows that matching black with navy blue is a fashion faux pas (just don’t tell the Columbus Blue Jackets).

Yeah well those pictures are a lot worse than my TV picture. I have a good TV but a poor camera and don’t know how to do it any other way.

Bottom line, I don’t care what color the team is supposed to be, if I look at it and it looks purple, it is purple. Unless I’m there, I don’t care what the color looks like live, and since the vast majority of fans or viewers will watch on TV over live, thats how it should be. If you think back to that profile Paul did a while back with that girl that worked in the color department for Russell and bashed the AFL like crazy, she said one of the biggest tests they do is how the color is portrayed on camera. I think purple is a terrible color for a uniform, and a terrible color in general. Further it is the general consensus of this blog, so that is why I said that.

I was watching it on TV and didnt see anything resembling purple….but this debate could go on and on for hours in circles. Some people just see colors a little different. Like the “Is it Navy Blue or is it Black” argument that some people were having on here a few months ago.

It sure can. Just like there are people that swear that the Yankees uniforms are black. haha

Not sure if this is an anomaly in recent history or not, but Lou Piniella is wearing an actual game jersey (and nothing over it) in LA today.

    From ESPN.com:

“Angles jump on Wang early, stop reeling Yankees”

Man, they are having WAY too much fun with that.

Breaking uni-news from Spain. A guy from Getafe just got kicked off the pitch for having compression shorts that didn’t match the kit shorts. They were white, but to be fair, no earthly color matches his teams day-glo yellow alts. He wasn’t ejected, but he did have to run to the locker room to change.

Funny thing is, if it was who I think it was (Albin), he had just come on and committed a hard foul that exposed his shorts. If hadn’t hacked the guy — he was booked — the ref wouldn’t have noticed.

“Bottom line, I don’t care what color the team is supposed to be, if I look at it and it looks purple, it is purple”. So even though the team’s colors are in fact blue, because you see purple, it’s purple. Interesting.

Now let me get this straight: Unless you’re there live, you don’t care what the actual color of the team uniform is. And since you’re watching it at home on TV, you want the color tailored specifically to your liking so that it looks correct on your TV. That sounds reasonable, I suppose: Let’s scrap the team’s uniforms and have them pay to have off-color ones made so that they look good on your TV.

But hold on, what’s going to happen if you go see them play live? I guess now they have to scrap the new, made-for-TV uniforms and have them go back to the old uniforms so that the colors look correct while you’re there at the stadium. Isn’t that a bit much to ask for?

Just a quick note from an eskimo:

I don’t get offended when people call me an eskimo. I usually ask them if they even know what it means. And yes, the PC term is Inuit. And there are a range of inuit groups, of which, I am an inupiaq. Sometimes referred to be the federal government as inupiat or inupiak. National Public Radio did a feature story on All Things Considered this past week talking about saving our language. Kind of cool.

Just an FYI for all my fellow UNI-lovers. And yes, I live in Alaska, where the beer is better, the sun shines longer in the summer and the women are — for the most part — just as hairy as the sled dogs.

Paul – Any chance you could do a special feature on mushing uniforms? Not really uniforms per se, but each musher has their own sponsor-heavy all-weather suit, and the canine athletes even have bibs/uni numbers and color-coordinated booties. As a veteran of the Iditarod trail, I can tell you, it is a beautiful spectacle to behold.

Also, check out the uniforms for our Alaska Baseball League here:

My faves are the Mat-Su Miners (green PL – ‘natch) and the Kenai Peninsula Oilers (old school).

The Glacier Pilots are alright, kind of Dodger-ish, and the Anchorage Bucs = Pirates. The worst, by far, are the Alaska (read: Fairbanks) Gold Panners; yellow, red, blue and white. Not so much.

Rambling post, but a lot on my mind, thanks and keep up the great work Paul… and the awesome core of posts/comments too, Will

According to the Bobcats’ media guide, the main color is “Pantone Warm Red,” and the secondary bluish color is “Pantone 534” (not even named!).

One thing is for sure – with Michael Jordan in the ownership group, no way is it royal blue (duke color)!

K-W can’t support a team. Hell, it hardly supports the Rangers. If Balsillie moves the team there, it’ll be moved within 5 years. Just put the team in North York or something so people who can’t afford Leafs tickets can go watch a better, more entertaining team.

Isn’t Vincent the second coach for the Bobcats? That would explain why the jersey is #2. UCONN wears navy blue not purple, and if you don’t know by now Kellie Pickler isn’t the smartest apple in the bunch. If I was her boyfriend and read the quote “I’m going to build an igloo” i’d call her up and dump her right on the spot. Instead of spending her money on new boobs she should have spent it on college.

It already has been renamed. The Predators will play next season in the Sommet Center.

The patches on the sleeves of the Celtic shirt belong to the Scottish FA Cup. If you look at sleeves of football (thats soccer to you colonials) shirts, various competitions have their own sleeve decals.

For example, the Champions League requires all teams shirts to carry the starry ball emblem.

If my memory serves, Euro 96 in England was the first international tournament to use the patches.

I don’t have any pics, but did anyone see Rockies pitcher Aaron Cook running the bases in a purple windbreaker?

Also note that Celtic wore next year’s shirt for the final (they’re now 1-0 :-) )

My favorite detail is that Artur Boruc’s keeper shirt now has grey/lighter grey hoops.

Reminds of the story a bunch of years ago where Leafs owner Harold Ballard threatened to move the team to Saskatoon, and the press joked about how they could only get to Saskatoon by dogsled, to which someone remarked: “No need to worry about Ballard moving the team, you wouldn’t be able to find 10 dogs that would take him”.

Today’s NY Post said that Johnny Damon was wearing Tennis Shoes instead of spikes during the game agaisnt the Blue Jays yesterday. Did anyone see this?
