Finally: Bucs, at Long Last, Set Date for Creamsicle Unveiling

We’ve known for well over a year that the Buccaneers would be bringing back their creamsicle throwback uniforms this season. For the past few weeks, we’ve also known the date when the throwbacks will be worn — on Oct. 15 against the Lions.

The one thing we still don’t have, however, is a look at the new throwbacks, which for some reason haven’t yet been unveiled. But a short teaser video posted today by the team makes it clear that the retro threads will finally be revealed next Wednesday, July 12.

Obviously, there shouldn’t be too many surprises here — we all know what the Bucco Bruce design looks like. But like everyone else, I’m curious to see how it looks when rendered in Nike’s modern tailoring, fabric, and so on. Mark your calendars!

Meanwhile, in case you missed it last month, I recently did a deep dive on the original creamsicle set, full of fun facts and info you might not know. You can check it out here.

(My thanks to Phil for bringing the Bucs’ teaser video to my attention.)

Still holding out for white over orange, unless it’s been confirmed orange over white

The fact that it’s a 1pm game in October gives me hope.

I predict it will be orange over white. Per the team website:
“Buccaneers creamsicle throwbacks are coming in 2023, get a first glimpse at the uniforms on July 12. The Bucs will wear Orange & White vs. the Lions on Oct. 15.”

While not a definitive confirmation it will be orange jerseys and white pants, it certainly sounds like it would be. If they do decide to go with a white jersey, I imagine it would be paired with white pants.

The Bucs didn’t introduce orange pants until 1992. So, with all the 70s/disco theming leading up to this unveil, I’d hope they at least try to keep it somewhat period-accurate.

Agreed. Plus they’re pegging it to Lee Roy Selmon, who played from 1976-1984.

Moved to Tampa from Maine when I was in the 6th grade one of the last years they wore those uni’s. So they’ll always hold a special place in my heart. First time living in a city, first time at a giant school, first time in a place with a football team. Welcome back Bucco Bruce!

Thanks for the update, Paul. I’m really looking forward to the unveiling. I love the disco vibe in the video. The fashions, the font on the coaster. Good stuff! Hail Bucco Bruce!

Still think they should go with these as their main uniforms, and have the pewter Super Bowl uniforms as their alternate throwbacks. Or go with creamsicle but with an updated helmet logo that combines the pirate flag and skeleton with Bruce’s hat and knife between the teeth.

I’m with you, already have something like that in mind.

Torch Creative already came up with the very logo you are thinking of.

Now THAT might be a radical Nike design that could be pretty good. But, they would probably screw that up too.

I’m beginning to wonder if the numbers will look retro with the “mesh” look?

To me, this most interesting thing about this uniform combo is how nice the orange over white looks, compared to how awful the white set looked when they added the clownish orange pants.

Also, I wonder if the younger folks realize just how hated/mocked these uniforms were for most of their existence. I think they were considered “feminine” during an era when men generally didn’t want to be associated with that label.
