MLB
- Red Sox 3B Rafael Devers’ ad patch was applied upside down during last night’s game at Fenway against the Orioles. I’m sure the advertiser is elated that this happened on the jersey of the face of the franchise. (From multiple readers)
- It appears that, in the 1995 World Series, Chipper Jones wore “C. Jones” on his away jersey, and just “Jones” at home. Also a good example of the different letter styles in vertically arched NOBs.
Minors
- The Albuquerque Isotopes, Reno Aces and umpires wore a memorial patch for Froylan Villegas, an 11-year old boy who was killed in a random drive-by shooting after attending a game on Wednesday night. His name was also in the dirt behind home plate. (From Frank Mercogliano)
More
- The Atlantic League’s Staten Island FerryHawks have teamed up with the Wu-Tang Clan to become the Shaolin Hawks for Sept. 13th’s game.

- Long time Uni Watch reader Colin Fowler’s detailed redesign of the Washington Commanders has led to a piece in the Washington Post (paywalled).
College
- Arkansas will be honoring QB Ryan Mallett and RB Alex Collins by painting their initials on the 15 and 3 yard lines, respectively, in accordance with their uniform numbers. Mallett drowned and Collins was killed in a motorcycle accident in recent months. (From Matt Snyder)

Basketball
NBA
- NBA C Jim McIlvaine, who played in the late ’90s, wore No. 34 in high school and college but switched to 22 in the NBA, in part because a teammate had 34, and in part to honor Jimmy Buffett, a fellow alum of his high school. (From @mikeobs)
- Cross-posted from the football section: The Wizards posted mockups of football jerseys in the teams’ uniform style.
Soccer
USA
- Groundbreaking news in global football, as Portland, Maine (this writer’s hometown and the greatest city in the world) is getting a USL League One team in 2025. While no idea for a name or aesthetic was even hinted at, the Press Herald article reports that “[t]he club intends to host several town meeting-style gatherings to seek input from supporters before choosing a team name, colors and crest, while getting feedback on what fans want for a game-day experience.” I intend to attend every one.
International
- Spain: FC Barcelona’s historic stadium Camp Nou is undergoing extensive renovations, forcing the club to play at the much smaller Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, The club is now selling extremely small cuts of Camp Nou turf.

… what is the context of this?
Sorry. That should have been a reply to Patrick’s comment up above.
Man, do I miss the Braves’ vertically arched NOBs.
I miss vertically-arched NOBs, period.
Very much so.
I’m a couple of days late commenting…
…But not as late as the Nou Camp renovation article, which is from April 2022!
