MLB
- Guardians 2B Andrés Giménez ripped his pants sliding into home yesterday. The Guardians broadcasters later said he kept the pants on afterward for good luck. (From Zac Neubauer)
More
- The Carolina Disco Turkeys, an independent summer collegiate wood bat team, hosted the first baseball game at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., yesterday. The stadium has an active racetrack which was a NASCAR Cup Series venue a very long time ago and also hosted Wake Forest football in the 1950s and ’60s. (From James Gilbert)
Hockey
- Last Thursday, news broke that the PHF was bought out. A new league will reportedly include three American and three Canadian teams without PHF cities Boston, Buffalo, and Hartford, which right now leaves teams in the Minneapolis and Newark areas, Toronto, Montréal, and two other locations. Additionally, the new owners don’t like any of the PHF team names and want to replace them.
Soccer
USA
- Your humble Ticker assistant was part of a uni-based display at the NWSL’s Washington Spirit game on Saturday done by one of the team’s main supporters’ groups, the Spirit Squadron. It shows the shirts of the six Spirit players headed to the World Cup — four for the US, one for Ireland, and one for Panama.
- Elsewhere in the NWSL, Gotham FC held a “women’s empowerment night” yesterday featuring warm-up shirts and a “Watch Women’s Sports” banner, but hopefully you don’t need a big banner with a scotch ad on it to tell you to do that.
International
- England: New shirts for Portsmouth and Exeter City of the men’s third tier.
- England: The head of the National Health Service in England is the latest to criticize gambling shirt ads, specifically their visibility to children, as the agency is dealing with a record number of gambling addiction referrals.
- France: New second shirt for Paris Saint-Germain of both top tiers. Three new shirts for Clermont Foot of the men’s Ligue 1.
- Germany: Hertha BSC’s new first shirt was released yesterday shortly after we mentioned it appearing onstage at a concert. (From Ed Żelaski)
- The Netherlands: New home shirt for SC Heerenveen. (From Ed Zelaski)
Cycling
- The men’s Tour de France’s green jersey is noticeably darker this year than its previous usual shade. I believe it’s to match the advertiser’s shade of green, which changed to the darker color last year.
Tennis
- With Wimbledon starting today, it’s a good time to remind you of an aesthetic change: Women will be allowed to wear dark undershorts. (From @breakthetest)

Update on the green jersey: NBC’s commentator, Phil Liggett, said today it’s easy to confuse with Bora-Hansgrohe’s jersey, which it definitely is: link
Darkening the jersey defeats the point to me because the special jerseys are supposed to be distinctive.
Also, here’s a making-of video of the Spirit’s tifo/display: link
Re: distinctive jerseys. I remember when Sean Kelly’s KAS team had to change from yellow to blue because the jersey looked too much like the Maillot Jaune.
Neilson Powless went with red shorts today to match the polka dots, yesterday he had the standard team shorts yesterday
Dang it, Twitter rules!
If you’re interested (as I was) to see what B-G Stadium looked like for that baseball game, here’s some footage:

The PHF team names are worth changing…
OMG the Carolina Disco Turkeys have the best logo I have seen in a long time!

I also like how the Disco Turkeys have worked a turkey feather into the sleeves of a 1970s Atlanta Braves-style uniform. While the Wampus Cats seem to favor the ’70s Padres.
