The Texans would look great in Columbia blue uniforms, but I think their excellent helmet decal will suffer in the translation. Make the Tejanos’ helmet white with a pastel blue face mask, and add a thin outline to the bull’s head. I am used to helmets having slightly different colors than the uniforms (49ers, Chiefs, Steelers).

No white helmet, please. I’d rather the red one be made the primary helmet, unless they go with a Columbia blue one…then they’d become my new favorite team.

So I would assume at this point for the Texans. All light blue unitard with htown on the chest. No reason to expect anything more. :/

The Iron City Light can also shows the Pirates’ 1979 World Championship (which was won on October 17, 1979) before the Steelers’ Super Bowl XIII which occurred on January 21, 1979

Great eye! Also that visually sticks out less than the Roman Numerals but overall as a uni watcher and OCD for these things my beer can is bugging me! For now I’ve kept it and is on the bookshelf next to the TV :)

I really like the Texan’s uniforms. I don’t see why they would need to change significantly, and I don’t have much confidence they won’t fuck them up.

“…the team could be moving in a more Oilers-esque direction.”
How desperate and pathetic of them if they do…so no doubt they will.

The Patriots teased a story on Instagram with their old word mark, seems like they’ll wear early-2000s throwbacks for TB12

I think the Texans have a GREAT uniform combo. Simple…… But, sometimes simple is good. But, I could see them adopting a white helmet and adding some baby blue to the jersey/pants. Really would hate to see them do it. But, those fans in Houston deserve to get SOME of the legacy back from the Oilers. BTW, has there every been any litigation for the Texans to try to buy the “Oilers” name/history like the Browns did?

My only problem(s) with the Texans unis are the team’s tendency to wear same color socks (white or navy) far too often. link

That, and the full mono-navy is too much (you want to do that for CR, have at it); they should always be navy jerseys with white pants, and the socks should be navy or red. They should only pair their blue pants with white (or red link) jerseys, and they should wear red socks with the blue pants.

Fix those things, and these are still a pretty solid uniform set.

I agree that the Texans have great uniforms…but whole-heartedly disagree that the few remaining Oilers fans in Houston or the at-large folks of Houston “deserve” any bit of the Oilers legacy.
    Now I have to rant:
The Texans could have at any time since their inception retained some of past NFL history by say, keeping all the numbers retired (‘soft’ or officially) by the Oilers – Campbell, Bethea, Munchak, to name a few – off limits or somehow honoring players such as Moon and Matthews who spent spent much of their careers in Houston. The franchise did nothing…and so-called/legacy fans of the departed Oilers didn’t advocate for anything either, did they? When the Titans first threw back to their Houston days in ’09, not one peep in opposition from Houstonians/anybody that I can recall. But only recently – after 20 seasons of the Texans playing in a new domed stadium with a-OK uniforms and no one complaining – has there been talk suggesting/demanding that the Oilers branding be brought back to Houston.
As far as legal recourse (really? This is something worth suing over?)…there’s probably not a good path that gets the ‘desired’ result. The Adams family owns the branding and has rightful claim to it, Commissioner Taglibue put into place a restriction that no future team that came to Houston via expansion/relocation would be permitted to use the Oilers name, colors, etc, plus McNair didn’t make any overtures to obtain said legacy back when he was granted the franchise. Sorry, the well is dry.
    Get off my AstroTurf!

“But, those fans in Houston deserve to get SOME of the legacy back from the Oilers.”
If the Ravens can commission a Johnny Unitas statue for their stadium grounds, why haven’t the Texans put up Earl Campbell or Elvin Bethea ones outside theirs if they are at all interested in legacy?

original comment stuck in moderation purgatory. I’ll try again…

Sometimes, a franchise nails it with a classic look right out of the gate, but Houston is not one of them. The Texans’ uni set has never been terrible, but has always resided in the lower tier of the league and is long overdue for a refresh. They should drop navy altogether (let the Titans keep looking awful in it) and embrace Columbia blue and red. There is still enormous goodwill in Houston for the old colors. With the throwback trend growing more and more popular, hopefully they would go that direction and not some ATL or LA Rams ultra-modern misfire. Hopefully.

Having two teams in the same division with the same color? Closest are the Browns and Bengals both having Orange prominent.

Saints Panthers and Falcons are all prominently black

Patriots and Bills are both blue and red

49ers and Cardinals are both red

I really just think if they could get the Oilers name, and be rebranded, that would solve a lot. I still think of the Texans an USFL team.

This is the way. They need the name back. I’m wasn’t even alive back then and I still automatically think Dallas Texans. I just wonder how much they wouldn’t even both buying it from Tennessee since the kids don’t like oil now.
