The Orlando Magic introduced three new uniforms, along with new logos and a new court, as they prepare for the upcoming season.
To get fans excited for the new look, the team produced a hype video featuring highlights from past seasons, and bringing us up to the present.

Here is a look at the new uniforms — which are clearly retro-inspired:

Per the team:
The three new uniforms, Association (white), Icon (blue) and Statement (black) have evolved into modern classics, honoring the rich history of the Magic’s most iconic jerseys while ushering in a new era of Orlando Magic basketball. With the return of the bold pinstripes, the MAGIC and ORLANDO wordmarks, uniform trim and bold star on the shorts of the Association and Icon editions, the uniforms are a nostalgic tribute to a favorite of the Magic’s fanbase while being on trend with current and future style. The Statement uniform, the only Jordan brand uniform in the lineup, is influenced by the Orlando Magic’s original on-court warm-up jackets with bold pinstripes and the new star-centric icon featured on the shorts.
Let’s look at the new uniforms now:

The white uniform, like the two other new unis, features vertical pinstripes on both jersey and pants. Thin black/blue/black stripes are present around the neck and arm openings. “MAGIC” with a star for the “A” and player number are also on the front of the jersey, in blue outlined in black.

The shorts feature a thick black/blue/black waistband, with thin black/blue/black striping on the hems (matching that on the jersey). A large star logo is found on both sides of the pants, and there is a new logo found in the center of the waistband.

Similar to the new white uniform, this version features white vertical pinstripes on a blue base. Collar and sleeve openings both have a thin black/white/black striping, while the wordmark reads “ORLANDO” with the “A” being substituted with the new star logo. Player number is in white, with a thin black outline, and centered beneath the wordmark.

Like its white counterpart, the blue shorts have white pinstripes, large star logo on both sides of the pants, and the thick waistband is in a black/white/black pattern. Thin black/white/black stripes are at the hem of the pants.

Of the three new uniforms, the black one is the most different from the other two. The top third of the jersey is blue, followed by a diagonally placed “MAGIC” wordmark, which is in black and bordered by two grayish-white stripes. The “A” in “MAGIC” is represented with a star logo. Arm openings and collar have a silver-gray/black striping. White pinstripes on a black base are below the wordmark. Player number in white with a blue outline is beneath the wordmark, slightly offset to the player’s left.

The all-black shorts also have vertical pinstripes, with a solid black waistband and a new “ORLANDO” logo sits in the center. Both sides of the pants feature the new blue basketball/stars logo.

The logos incorporate the stars in multiple ways – a variation of the past with a “new-look” cascading star trail and making a comeback in the wordmark replacing the “A” in both “Orlando” and “Magic.” It also stays true to the team’s roots continuing with the colors of Magic blue, Magic black and Magic silver. The updated look includes the team’s secondary logo with the iconic star behind the ball appearing in motion, reflecting the team propelling forward and building on the heritage and history of the Magic from its birth in 1989.

What do you guys think?
This is a homerun for the Orlando Magic EXCEPT for the black uniforms. They tried to get cute and it looks ridiculous. Make the black ones look like the white/blue uniforms and it’s perfect.
The Orlando Magic finally look like the Orlando Magic again. Fix the black uniforms and that would be a set that shouldn’t be touched ever again (unless they went completely back to the Shaq/Penny uniforms).
They appear to be an homage to these warmups from the Shaq era
link
I had that jacket when I was a young teen, till I grew out of it. It was probably my most cherished possession.
Agreed.
Whole heartedly agree on all points!
Almost had it… and then those black uniforms show up.. WHY?!
This reminds me of the Lakers’ revamp a few years ago. Beautiful job with the white/gold uniforms and then got cute with the purple uniforms. Just like the Magic, had the Lakers just produced a normal purple uniform, it would have been perfect.
YEP!!!!!!!!!
The combo has history with Magic fans.
The white and blue uniforms are perfect. The changes to the black jersey are unnecessary but provides something different.
The only gripes I have are the primary logo and the use of it on the court. Somehow they made that worse than previous iterations for the sake of change.
Gotta have the black unis with pins. Nicely done. I like a little innovation.
Great redesign. The logo is a huge upgrade. Now it doesn’t remind me of a sperm cell.
SO close. Original logo font from their original uniforms is so much better. Should have just went back to that.
100% agree. Huge upgrade from the most recent set but I can’t get on board with that new logo on the jerseys. The font is awful.
Absolutely. I am trying not to be a downer on here but these are trash. They took a great idea and made it look like the store brand alcohol bottle or something. Why such a lifeless font? Why copy the same exact skewed star from the suns city unis when the magic already have stars they could have used from their own uni history? I’m sorry but they didn’t make a great homage to a former uni. They crapped all over an all time great uni.
Was trying to figure out what disappoints me so much about it and I think it’s the all caps name. Would be really interested to see the names with lower case like in the past to determine if it’s the font or because I feel like I’m being screamed at.
Gives me flea market/ knock off vibes, nearly a perfect copy of the originals but something is just off. For these, it’s the word mark and numbers.
One thing that I don’t think anyone is noticing is that the black uniform is specifically harming back to the old 1990s warmups they used to wear:
(link)
You’re 100% right and I came here to say the same. I’m not sure it works perfectly, but it’s easy to see what they were going for with a quick Google search on those Shaq & Penny era warmup jackets/pants. I don’t hate that they tried it.
It just doesn’t work on the uniform. How about this. BRING BACK THOSE WARM UPS! That would be better than trying to make it work on the jersey.
I doubt they can bring back those warmups. Nike, and Adidas before them, uses a template for the warmups.
The team calls it out in their announcement, which was near the top of the article.
all three hit it out of the park.
REALLY disliked the black uni when I first saw it, but seeing it now on Paolo I’d say it looks decent. Still would have preferred they used the same simple template as the white & blue unis, but I think the black set will grow on people.
The font choice is horrendous.
Was wondering if the font struck anyone else the same way it struck me. Don’t like the font. Like pretty much everything else, even the black unis since they have a creative spin. But the font choice strikes me as something I can’t put my finger on. Too corporate? Not sure. But I don’t like it.
Yes, Scott, the boring font smacked me right in the face in the lede photo. And had they used either one from their past or very similar, I would like these unis much better, even the black ones. Nuff said.
font is awful. wont translate well to the court.
I’m with you on the fonts.
Thank you! Of all the jerseys to opt for a more conservative font, you pick this one?
Exactly my first reaction. It is painfully bland.
It seems that with each subsequent re-brand the MAGIC wordmark gets less and less unique. Remember the original? It didn’t use a font. Each letter was like it’s own piece of art.
Pretty soon it will just be Arial.
This exactly sums it up. Nice uniforms, nice new logo (but why a roundel once again) but the wordmarkt, the font is atrocious. Diminishes the whole set.
These look like the unlicensed “replicas” your dad buys you in the parking lot on the way to the game. You grin and bear it because dad works hard, but you’re never going to wear this to school.
I was thinking the same thing.
I think these are both too busy and too boring, which is pretty impressive.
Haha too true
Honestly, I dig the white and blue (the black is horrific), but the whole identity looks like it could’ve used a little bit more time in the oven. Everything kind of looks a little knock-off-ish. Like the logo would be in a movie about basketball that couldn’t get the NBA license, the jerseys look like fakes you’d buy for $4 at a shady stall on Canal St.
I like the return of the pinstripes but it’s frustrating because it could be better than it came out, if they spent a little bit more time.
I find it somewhat odd that the sizzle reel showed every generation of Magic unform except for this short-lived version that didn’t have pinstripes. I always liked that design, and found it a lot cleaner than what came after it.
link
The font is too plain. It’s as if the “Magic” was taken out of the logo.
I’m not the biggest fan of that font but it’s fine considering it’s replacing the “I Can’t Believe It’s Not The Dallas Mavs” font they’ve been wearing.
I wasn’t a fan of the black one until I was reminded of their warmups from the 90s
link
I find it amusing that the hype-picture has they guys with crossed-arms covering all the design elements. Brilliant!
I don’t like the font at all. Maybe if the “Orlando” were a little taller it would look better.
And at first I didn’t like the black one but at least a team is trying something different on a jersey then just solid colors.
That brings up something I would like to do on basketball and football uniforms – stripes, hoops, half and half designs, etc. ala like in soccer
Just a massive upgrade.
These are vastly superior to their previous set, which looked like they were trying to become the Dallas Mavs. The Magic should always have a little whimsy in their unis, and the block letter era felt like someone trying to make Goofy wear a business suit.
I can even deal with the black alts since they’re based on a Shaq-era warmup suit.
I don’t like the “ORLANDO MAGIC” wordmark in the roundel “Global Logo” because it looks too corporate and a little superfluous. The wordmark font is not great but not awful. Looking at it again it looks like a font I’d expect to see in advertising for Universal Studios Orlando or Disney World. Maybe I miss the original 90s logo too much.
Uniforms I do like.
Roundel logo needs to be tweaked, the way the words sit in there doesn’t work. Does it say Magic Orlando or Orlando Magic? If the letters on the top are going to be off centered that much you need to be more creative in how you set the type. I think they would have been better off starting Orlando between the top two stars. If not that just start with Orlando Magic at the bottom, having it run up the right side of the circle.
All these people hating on the black uniform…would you like it better if it was just the same template as the home and road, just in black? Alt uniforms are supposed to be a little different! I love that this one is a separate template while still keeping with the overall theme of the set. It’s different, but it’s not TOO different. High marks all around.
“All these people hating on the black uniform…would you like it better if it was just the same template as the home and road, just in black?”
Yes.
Then it wouldn’t look like the inspiration. link
I feel like most people know about the reference by now. I just don’t think it works as a jersey because you’re losing the arm sleeve that’s in blue to balance things out
Overall it’s an upgrade, still, I prefer arched wordmarks like the one used in 2003. The new insignia is quite an improvement.
Woof. That black jersey looks like a bottle of glass cleaner. The new ball-with-stars logo is good, but one too many outlines. This just seems un-magical, as another commenter posted.
I wonder if the NOB will be placed under the number ??? I hope not, another NBA uni trend I wish would go away….
Listen, I know there are only so many ways to draw a basketball but theirs is nearly identical to the Pacers’ ball orientation, save for the lines tapering off to the left a bit. It’s no different than their first few logos but still, noticeable.
I like these overall, but like others have said something seems off with font on the blue jersey. I’m not sure if its too low or too small, but it just feels “off”. Every time I look at the black I like it a little more for some reason. This might end up being one of those “hated at first but grew to love” unis.
The ‘MAGIC’ and ‘ORLANDO’ word marks are making the redesign hard for me to like. There was something fun about and magically, if you will, about the original Orlando Magic wordmarks that this is not coming close to. Its almost as if they couldn’t afford a license for the font so they went with an alternate and much more corporate font. Maybe I’m being too nitpicky
Bingo. This guy gets it. Such a shame they’re afraid to stand out.
No, you are not too nitpicky. The font is a huge swing and miss. Nothing Magic about this lettering which you would expect from a small accounting firm or a local supermarket.
The Global Logo makes me want to bite my own arm off. The right one at that.
Honestly, the Magic are so irrelevant that I don’t know what to compare these to other than the 90s unis I remember when they were relevant. This feels like a modernized version of those so I like it.
Yeah, I guess Orlando looks like Orlando again. But is that good thing? Never liked their pinstripe uniforms from the beginning. Leave the stripes for baseball. And that BFBS uniform is a special kind of ugly (which means it will fly off the shelves).
I agree with you about the pinstripes. I know the Magic have a history of pinstripes, but when I think pinstripes, I think of the Yankees, Cubs, and Phillies. They don’t look right on basketball uniforms.
But it’s not BFBS because black is a Magic team color. Always has been.
They did a GREAT job … of removing all magic from the Magic. That incredibly uninspired wordmark is an insult to the retro version the rest of the uniform draws from. The letters used to be playful, unique typography evocative of a “magical” theme.
Now? What is that, arial? Like so many other uniforms (hello Cleveland and Utah v1.0) they went super-simple to the point of losing any identity and running scared from creativity. I mean, surely they could have found a way to display “Orlando” that wasn’t in a tiny font. Or to tap the magic wand “i” with a star on top of the letter in “Magic.”
They even reduced the numbers of stars trailing the ball in the primary icon. It’s less interesting, more corporate, and a muggle as far as magic is concerned.
The pinstripe design is beautiful, as ever. It’s the insipid logo and lettering that adorn it which disgrace that look.
Spot on.
I’m with the majority…white and blue are both sharp. The black is a BIG miss. I see what they were going for with the reference to the 90s warm-ups, but as a jersey it just does not work at all. The blue field at the top just ruins it. All-black pinstripes would have been a much better choice.
Magic fan since their birth, was 8 their first season, so I was obsessed. This is a Homerun, out of the park. Yes….even the black set, which is highly nostalgic, even if its divisive. It is not BFBS…. the Magic warm-ups that the kit is modeled after was EXTREMELY popular back in the early/mid 90s, a version is still sold by Mitchell and Ness to this day. If you Google Magic Warm-ups, the inspiration is literally the first image that pops up.
Homerun, love the new logo change too.
I agree, it all looks good to me.
I feel like I am taking crazy pills. This is the most bland and generic rebrand I can remember. The logos are painfully clip art level terrible.
Surprised so many people on uni-watch like it.
It’s not bad at all; a refinement of an original uniform set. As to the font not being the original….I suppose it depends on what you think the original logo of the Magic was. If you think it was primarily the wordmark, then moving further away from it is a mistake. If you think it’s the Magic Basketball, by making it a bit sleeker, the wordmark has to follow.
So, I like the black uniform…and quite a bit. I saw it and said finally a modern alternate uniform that is stylishly presented, but is true to the history and color pallet of the team. This looks really good. Then, I wondered what my fellow uniphiles would think, so I looked at the comments. Boy, am I in the minority. However I just feel compelled to throw in my two cents that the Magic got it right on all three counts.
Other than the Nike/Jordan logo and the Disney ad, I have zero problems with these three.
I love how it seems they maintained a 90s flavor to the brand. I keep seeing puncturevine thorns when I see the secondary logo though. But I’m intrigued to see how this ages! High hopes!
The “Secondary Logo” is unnecessary. Also, it looks like the Phoenix Suns logo.
Looks very AI generated. I Love the idea, but without the font of the uniform, it looks like someone just put make a pinstripe uniform similar to the 90s orlando magic in Chat GPT. love the idea, but without an original looking font it is a fail
oh boy it’s another *roundel logo*
also the font choice for the uniforms is HIDEOUS. it feels very dollar store knockoff.
Nicely done, Orlando.
Upgrade all around, as stated by a few, I’d prefer the old black and pinstripe instead of the warmup style one but, they all look like Orlando Magic now.
Ah yes, the seemingly mandatory arms-folded-and-looking-badass uni reveal photo.
That being said, the black and blue unis are okay — nothing special, but at least nothing ridiculous. The black uni is kinda meh.
Oops.
The WHITE and blue are okay . . .
I think all are an upgrade. I always hated the original logo for being clip art of a basketball and generic stars. At least the new logo has slanted ones.
But my issue is: why do they stick with a basketball and stars? Is there anything else that says MAGIC? Hell, the old Wizards logo was more Magic than this. Top hat? Magic wand? A spank at fingertips? An open book of ancient spells?
The Canucks went from the stick-in-rink blue and green to the Spaghetti Skate black, orange and yellow to the Jumping Orca navy and sky blue with red and silver. The Sabres went from their original blue and gold to the Goathead red and black to the Buffaslug navy and gold. Sometimes, swing for the fences and come up with a whole different concept.
One thing that bugs me is the Ottawa Senators started with a Roman centurion in Year One and they cannot come up with anything new. It’s always that theme, that concept.
So…. Nobody is gonna talk about how the secondary logo is just the Suns logo in different colors?
Letdown by Orlando. The uniforms themselves are OK (I also like the warmup jacket reference of the black set. I love warmup jackets from yesteryear) but the slanted stars look so cheap. And the wordmark is easily the worst in the NBA. Totally AI generated, soulless, small town corporate, not funny or funky, clunky look. They should have gone back tot the original font, one of the best NBA wordmarks ever. Plus the original, straight up in your face five point stars, Dallas Cowboys style. Not the weak, slanted logo of the Dallas Stars…
I think the magic were dropping hints. I was at a game in February against the Spurs, and the souvenir cup from that game has the new “magic” jersey logo on the cup. Interesting.
