Hello, everyone, and welcome to Friday afternoon. Last I heard, Phil still couldn’t access Uni Watch on his computer. I couldn’t overnight, but it seems to be working fine on my device now. So, I thought I’d come out of retirement ever so briefly to play a couple of UW games with you. Hopefully, this will help you pass the time until Phil is up and running again.
Guess The Game From The Scoreboard
Today’s scoreboard comes from… me.
The premise of the game (GTGFTS) is simple: I’ll post a scoreboard and you guys simply identify the game depicted. In the past, I don’t know if I’ve ever completely stumped you (some are easier than others).
Here’s the Scoreboard. In the comments below, try to identify the game (date and location, as well as final score). If anything noteworthy occurred during the game, please add that in (and if you were AT the game, well bonus points for you!):
Please continue sending these in! You’re welcome to send me any scoreboard photos (with answers please), and I’ll keep running them.
Guess The Game From The Uniform
Based on the suggestion of long-time reader/contributor Jimmy Corcoran, we’ve introduced a new “game” on Uni Watch, which is similar to the popular “Guess the Game from the Scoreboard” (GTGFTS), only this one asked readers to identify the game based on the uniforms worn by teams.
Like GTGFTS, readers will be asked to guess the date, location and final score of the game from the clues provided in the photo. Sometimes the game should be somewhat easy to ascertain, while in other instances, it might be quite difficult. There will usually be a visual clue (something odd or unique to one or both of the uniforms) that will make a positive identification of one and only one game possible. Other times, there may be something significant about the game in question, like the last time a particular uniform was ever worn (one of Jimmy’s original suggestions). It’s up to YOU to figure out the game and date.
Today’s GTGFTU comes from… me again.
Good luck and please post your guess/answer in the comments below.
Speaking of the Orioles and unis… I received an email from them this morning asking me to rank their unis. The 10 choices were limited (the 1966 home and roads would have been my top choices). All the orange and black choices were at the bottom of my list. link
Glad you jumped in Jimmer. Great rain delay photo!
GTGFTS is GB at the Met in Bloomington, December 5, 1976. Vikings won 20-9. Fred Cox must be kicking an XP here because he only kicked two FG on the day (already on the scoreboard).
The scores were a tad difficult to see, but not impossible. What was clearer was the message about the Pro Bowl in Seattle. That told me it had to be the 1976 game at the Met.
The hockey game is May 10, 2021, Lightning on the road at the Panthers. That #85 is a man named Daniel Walcott, and he played in this game…his only career NHL game to date. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s only other #85 in franchise history is Petr Klima (RIP), a righty-shooting white guy from the Czech Republic who looks nothing like Walcott and who never wore this iteration of a Lightning uniform.
I only view this site on my phone. The alignment of many articles has been off for about a week. The text is too large, this entry included, and it makes it nearly impossible to read at times.
Do you have an iPhone?
Phil thought there might be an Apple problem. The site looks good on my Android phone, and my non-Apple PC allowed me to read and post today with no issues.
I had access troubles earlier in the week. I’m sorry other people are having trouble, but also a little relieved that it wasn’t something specific with my computer.
The letters on the back of Dempsey’s jersey are ENORMOUS.
Met Stadium
12/5/1976
Last Vikings Super Bowl Team
Vikings 20 Packers 9
Fred Cox kicking extra point, two field goals (straight on kicker, inventor of the Nerf Ball)
Chuck Foreman 2 TD’s
Both Coaches in HOF Bud Grant(coach) Bart Starr(player)
My Dad and brothers at game, I had just moved to CA
Both teams shared the same side line. shadow hits vising team first temperature drops 10/15 degrees.
Thanks Nick for sending me the link!

The ’83 road unis… then everything else.
Yes Jim!

You got it, Mike!
Not only was this Daniel Walcott’s singular NHL game, it was an historic one.

The limited, facemasked crowd and the tarped-off section are good indicators of the time period, even before identifying Walcott.
The COVID masks in the background narrowed it down for me. But yeah #85 only played in 1 game
Today is the first time, in little over a week, I have been able to get on the Uni-Watch site on my pc.
I’m not the first to this one, but the GTGFTS is 5 Dec 1976, Week 13. Packers 9 – 20 Vikings.
I only view this site on my phone. The alignment of many articles has been off for about a week. The text is too large, this entry included, and it makes it nearly impossible to read at times.

I always immediately think of Rick Dempsey when I hear the words “rain delay.”
I had access troubles earlier in the week. I’m sorry other people are having trouble, but also a little relieved that it wasn’t something specific with my computer.

For the record, I have had no issues accessing the site at all on a Windows laptop using Firefox.
My guess is;

I would have loved to been at this, or any Vikings snow game at the Met.
I’m using Duck Duck Go on my iPhone and I’m not having issues. Now if I go to Apple Safari…. Yikes.
