At long last, the Boston Red Sox have unveiled their new 2025 City Connect uniforms! (And yes, the jersey leak was legit.) But finally seeing the official uniforms — all we knew about was the jersey — brings the unis into full relief.
The Sawx are referring to this as their “Fenway Greens” uniform that “pays homage to the ballpark’s left field wall.” While that may seem an odd thing to be referencing on a “City” Connect jersey, Boston Red Sox fans (as well as a good number of baseball fans) will absolutely “get” it. And sure, all City Connects are as much about moving retail merch as they are about uniforms, but it absolutely feels like the Sox themselves — rather than Nike’s design stable — developed the concept and put it into motion.
We’ll go over the jersey’s finer reference points (most of which were already dissected following the leaks) momentarily, but, as we all know, a uniform is more than a jersey. It includes caps, pants and socks, and until the uniform was officially unveiled, we could only speculate as to the jersey’s complementary elements. Well before I saw the full uniforms, I noted I hoped the team would wear green caps and white pants — and indeed, that is what the Sox have done here.
Here’s a look at the full uniforms:

The caps are green, in the same shade as the jersey (which itself is replicating the color of the Green Monster, Fenway’s infamous left field wall). The pants are white and special CC socks are green.
Per the Red Sox, “The new jersey’s [sic] feature ‘Red Sox’ in the Green Monster’s signature font across the chest in white, with an encircled “B” logo on the sleeve. Player numbers appear in yellow on the front – a nod to the Fisk and Pesky poles – and in white on the back. Inside the collar, ‘1912’ is stitched onto a concrete, heather pattern, symbolizing the interior structure of the left field wall and the year Fenway Park opened. A replica of the Green Monster’s vintage ball, strike, and out indicator appears as a small graphic detail on the lower left of the jersey.”
The cap is green, with a “B” in the Red Sox current logo design, rendered in white. Thick stitching gives the logo a 3-D look. Unlike many of this year’s CC caps, this one is solid in color, with no contrasting panels or gradient anywhere. In short, it is basically a green version of the regular cap.

The jersey is also green, with “RED SOX” across the chest in white. As previously noted, this font is the same as that found on the left field wall/scoreboard.

The collar and sleeves have a white/green/white striping pattern. Yellow-gold front numbers — which the Sox say are nods to the Fisk/Pesky poles — also reference the live scoring indicators.
Located just above the jock tag on the jersey, which won’t be visible on the field as players must tuck their jerseys, is a reference to the lights for the “BALL,” “STRIKE” and “OUT” indicators on the Green Monster.

Also not visible is the (seemingly obligatory) collar slogan, which has 1912 (the date Fenway Park officially opened). The Sox note the “1912” is on a “concrete, heather pattern” they say symbolizes “the interior structure of the left field wall.”

Each sleeve of the jersey contains either an ad (and the side switches depending upon the player’s handedness) or a “Circle B” logo, which is derived from the “Circle H” and “Circle E” (hit and error) scoring indicators on the Monster.

The rear of the jersey features white numbers, each with a small “notch” at the top of the number. This is a reference to the painted numbers that are hung following each inning on the Fenway scoreboard. As is typical of the Sox, home jerseys are NNOB.

The pants may be the most pleasant surprise of the entire uniform. Thankfully, they are white, but they are far from plain. Each pants leg has two thin green stripes (mimicking the collar/sleeve piping, with the color order reversed).

But that’s not all. Take a closer look at the belt tunnels. The team has added a thin green soutache around the outside of the belt tunnels. Aside from the Braves (who fought to have the belt tunnel piping restored on their home pants), the Sox are the only team in baseball to have that detail.

You may note that earlier I mentioned that the special City Connect socks to be worn with this uniform are green. But if you look at the players posing, you might think the socks are yellow-gold. That won’t be the case. The CC socks are green, with two sets of white/green/white stripes (mirroring the striping pattern on the jersey sleeve/collar), along with a a Circle B logo and the number 310 (a reference to the left field distance marker).

Of course, CC batting practice caps are a thing now, and the BoSox will be receiving one. The crown is white, with a green brim. A green “Circle B” logo is on the front of the cap, while the right side is adorned with the same ball/strike/out graphic seen just above the jock tag.

“The original Nike City Connect uniforms were a bold departure for the team, rooted in the spirit of the Marathon more than the club’s traditional identity,” said Troup Parkinson, Chief Marketing and Partnerships Officer for the Boston Red Sox. “This time, we started with a clear design thesis to create something lasting – drawn directly from Fenway Park itself. Every element has meaning and reflects a place that has defined Red Sox baseball for over a century.”
The new uniform will debut during tonight’s 7:10 p.m. game against the Braves and will be worn for select home games throughout the season, including May 23. The yellow and blue uniforms will remain a core offering for the team, replacing the blue alternate jersey, and will continue to be worn during Patriots’ Day Weekend at Fenway Park.
As I previously noted, the team will not wear the new uniforms for warmups/BP. They’ll be in their normal batting practice gear prior to the game, and will then hit the locker room and change into the new CCs before first pitch.
When these jerseys were leaked, I was immediately a fan, but I also worried the cap, pants and socks could take a really nice jersey and crap things up aesthetically with some of the more “out there” CC design elements other teams have added. I especially worried the Sox might pair the green jersey with green pants, or that the cap would be some kind of multi-color panel, sublimated-gradient number. Fortunately, the team went with a very basic (but attractive) cap in solid green, and the white pants, with the side piping and belt tunnel soutache, look fantastic! Stance usually finds a way to screw up their CC socks, but as far as CC socks go, these are fine. I could do without the Circle B and “310,” but they’re not deal breakers. And being mostly green and white, they complement rather than contrast with the rest of the uniform. There may not be too many players who go high cuffed with the CC, but those who do will look better than those who sport full-length trou.
This is easily my favorite of the 2025 City Connects, and it’s probably in the Top 3 overall. Obviously, the entire CC program has the dual purpose of creating alternate uniforms AND an opportunity for a great deal of merchandising. While that in and of itself is disappointing, we’re long past the point of complaining about the program. It’s obviously here to stay, so participating teams really need to work hard to create a uniform that stands on its own, without a lot of storytelling needed to explain the “city” elements. While this jersey obviously is heavily influenced by the left field wall, even if one never saw the Green Monstah, this uniform, I believe, would still stand alone as the design is good. Is it still a CC? Yes. But it’s a really good one.
While I almost always caution that “I’ll need to see the uniform on the field and in action” to render a full opinion, I expect they’ll look as good as they do in the press photos. And we won’t have to wait long to see them in action.
I hope you like them as much as I do, and feel free to disagree in the comments below. I’m fine if you want to bash the entire CC program, but I’m more interested in your thoughts about this as simply a new uniform. Did they overdo the Wall motif? Do you like the jersey, pants and/or socks? What stands out to you as the best design element and if there’s any specific reference worked into the jersey you don’t like, what is it?
Fire away!
I like these very much. It honors the subject matter without feeling forced…
These are amazing
Oh wow, an alternate jersey (with a story) paired with White pants… Stunning Brave and bold.
Yeah, I love these. The Sox really nailed it, in my opinion. I also really dig the BP caps. Is any of it necessary? Of course not. But there’s too much to be mad about in the world, and these look great and are connected to the team in a real way, so I’m in on them.
interesting design note from Parkinson via a Red Sox podcast (Baseball Isn’t Boring): the team knew they wanted a green uni, but when they told designers, some came back with a neon green closer to the mascot, Wally, instead of Fenway green like what they wanted
So they said “we want a green uniform” and not “we want a green-as-in-Green Monster-uniform”? No wonder they got designs working off of Wally.
The moral of that story is “be specific with what you want and what you accept from your designers.”
the direct quote: “We talked to designers and they went ‘okay we get it, Green Monster’, they started coming [back to us] with colors off of Wally the Green Monster, which as you know is not Fenway green, it’s like neon green”
That tells you the designers didn’t know baseball worth a damn.
A perfect finish for an altogether solid year for the City Connect program. My only criticism is that it says “RED SOX” instead of “BOSTON”. The Red Sox knock it over the wall and out of the park again.
These are fantastic!
Nice work Sox – and Phil, for getting us this story!
I actually thought the yellow numbers were to resemble the score on the monster during that inning. Ex. when they score 3 in the inning they are still in.
Yeah I noticed that as well, because Phil mentioned it in one of the leak articles… I’d guess the designers did actually take the visual inspiration from the active-inning scoreboard feature, but the marketing department wanted a way to shoehorn the Pesky Pole into the brandspeak narrative promoting the merch drop, because it’s a more famous and recognizable element of Fenway lore among the broader fanbase (customer base)?
If City Connect is a world’s tallest midget competition, this entrant is somehow a normal bodied person of mean height
“A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.” – J. Springfield
That’s a perfectly cromulent assessment, well done.
Not bad. Nike found a way to make something that connects to the team and the city without any marketing speak about representing the diversity of the neighborhoods AND without any gradients. My favorite part is the little notch in the numbers.
Nike probably got overruled countless times by the team for it to turn out like this.
You’re saying like a diversity is a bad thing.
Diversity of thought and culture is beautiful …
For the sake of teams and uniforms, (and specifically uniformity, the pursuit of a common goal), diversity is not a good thing….
That’s why Syd Barrett was kicked out of Pink Floyd…
I think Judy A. was being a bit racist because she doesn’t like a certain kind of diversity.
These are amazing. Simple, yet effective. So well done. My only thought is I wish they used the batting practice hat design for the in-game hat. Ditch the usual B (which is acceptable since it’s a CC) for the Circle B and then the ball/strike/out dots on the side. Keep the full green hat. I feel that would’ve completed the look and made the uniform a full nod to the Green Monster. Other than that, no notes.
Completely agree
Aside from being yellow, and now green, the Red Sox have totally nailed both of their CC designs. I don’t think this team should wear anything other than red and blue, but that is a different argument. This is a fantastic complete uniform, and every element works together and feels professional, and not ‘cheesy’ they way some CC’s do (hello, Brew Crew!). If this was an expansion baseball team, it gets perfect marks from me. As a Red Sox uniform, color is my only complaint, but it still gets 9 out of 10.
I was terrified of the hat – but they got it right. The pants are great. Green pants with yellow foul pole piping would’ve been interesting to see, but probably too much. The circle B is the only thing I don’t love. It’s not on the scoreboard. Writing Boston out would’ve been nice because that’s on the wall or moving the ball strike out lights to the sleeve would’ve worked. Overall, a huge win.
Yeah I was a little anxious about the hat as well. Was half expecting BOSTON written out or something like that. The white B on the green cap is fantastic.
They do sell them – link
Really really like them. I think they “connect” much better than their last ones (even though I liked them). Just brilliantly done.
This is a win. Love the reference to the lights for the “BALL” “STRIKE” and “OUT” indicators on the Green Monster.
Impressed that they were able to use restraint on this. It’s a class baseball uniform.
Nitpicking detail, double digit numbers shouldn’t have the notch on each number.
Overall, this design is much better than the Aramark unis. All in all, however I (lifelong Sox fan) don’t really need either of them.
The look great, make sense, and are an improvement over the kept Marathon Jerseys. My only
minor complaint is is just it needs a bit of red… I’m surprised they make the cap “B” red. Maybe it will be with undershirts. Otherwise these are excellent and a nice improvement.
It does make wonder if they would use this scheme with the Celtics next City Edition whose court in the 70s used a similar shade of green
link
These are very much what I wished the original Boston CC uniforms would have been, and criticized them for not being. Yet in practice it falls a bit flat for me. Maybe Boston fans will connect with these! In which case my non-fan opinion is worth what anyone paid for it. But in practice a scoreboard just seems to me too thin a reed for an alternate identity like this. I mean, if Boston was the only ballpark in the country with a green scoreboard, sure, but this is not that far away from adopting the colors green and tan in tribute to the colors of the infield grass and dirt. Every ballpark has that! Boston’s scoreboard is cool, but it’s also not all that special.
That said, detailed critiques aside, this does seem to validate my wish that Boston would substitute green for blue in their normal color scheme. The Sawx should be a green team with strong red highlights, not yet another navy-and-red team.
This is coming from a Sox fan, but the Green Monster isn’t just a scoreboard and it’s well beyond the color of the grass or the infield dirt. Ask any baseball fan – not just someone from Boston, but any fan – to list the first five things they think about for the Sox, and Fenway (and for some, the Monster specifically) is almost guaranteed to be in the what, top 5? top 3? Maybe higher? There’s a reason that folks here freaked all the way out when seats were first installed on top of the wall. Ever since Camden opened, each new park aims to have a distinctive element, and that stems from Fenway and Wrigley and the old Yankee Stadium. A CC set could be much worse than drawing inspiration from those unique parts of a park.
As a uniform itself, I wish it read Boston instead of Red Sox. Not only is that how the scoreboard reads, but this is a “City” Connect program. Other than that, I like it.
I know it’s a small thing, and it probably doesn’t bother many other people, but the fact that a MLB team worth upwards of $5 billion can’t get the grammar right on an official press release they knew was coming for months irks me. In the first line, no less! “The new jersey’s [sic] feature…” Who’s writing these things – and who’s not catching them? I see it more and more across all media. Old man shaking his fist at the wind again over hear, but dang. C’mon. I assume Uni Watch editors (or Phil himself) caught it and made the notation – so thank you for that.
Yeah. That was me.
English is a flexible language, I read jersey’s as “jersey is” not “belonging to the jersey”.
But I’m an engineer, not a grammarian.
The only thing I don’t like is that the D in Red Sox breaks across the placard which always annoys me. I would have preferred a large break between Red and Sox as on their home whites.
Completely agree and find their decision utterly inexplicable. I’d also prefer BOSTON on the front too, as this is a CITY Connects Jersey. Otherwise these are quite nice.
That’s one of two things that irk me.
“but as far as CC socks go, these are fine” ???
*Deep profound sigh*
They’re. Not. Red.
If they added the red dots from the scoreboard, they most certainly could have gone with red socks. You’d still have a predominantly green uni that honors the Green Monster, while keeping the article of clothing for which the team is named.
I don’t disagree that a team named for a piece of clothing should actually wear said clothing.
But (if you read one of my leak pieces), I’ve noted the Red Sox have worn solid navy, and of course, the not-quite-powder blue socks with their former CC, which is now an alternate. So, it’s not like the Red Sox are suddenly ditching their signature uni element.
Perhaps I should have further explained by “these are fine” — I’m speaking solely of CC socks, which are almost always one of the worst elements of every CC, since Stance loves to put all kinds of superfluous crap on them. In this instance, perhaps at Boston’s insistence, the CC socks are fine with the uni.
I’ve already said countless times the CC program is just a merch dump, but if we look at the uniform solely as a uniform — this one one of the best. If there has to be a uniform in which the Red Sox don’t wear Red Socks, this is it.
Well said Phil. I also think that the argument that a team has to adhere to a strict interpretation of their nickname is not a good reason to like or dislike a uniform. The Lakers aren’t anywhere near lakes, the Jazz play in Utah, etc etc… the identity and the aesthetic iconography of a team can and should evolve over time. Regarding the Red Sox, that shade of green is all over Fenway, and Fenway is a landmark in Boston in a way that other ballparks aren’t. All this to say, if the Red Sox are going to wear a color other than red, blue, white, or gray, it should be this color green.
I think the issue is it was possible to get some red in there, be it a red undershirt, red sleeve stripe, or a red B on the hat. Just a small touch would be enough and unlike the prior city connect it wouldn’t be out of place. It feels intentional (even if it isn’t) and I don’t understand what point they’re trying to make.
These socks are not fine and it’s got nothing to do with them not being red. How much longer is stance’s contract FFS? Does every uni for every team need its own tourist trap souvenir shop novelty socks? At this point let’s just outfit teams in socks that say “I don’t want to taco ‘bout it” and “rosé all day”.
I think some of these sock designs would be fine if they just dropped 3-4 visual elements, which sounds crazy to even have to say about socks.
Stance: don’t try to cram the stripes, the circle-B logo, the 310, the 1912, and the contrasting panels all on one sock. Just choose one (or none).
Here’s an idea: stirrups. I despise all the Stance socks, CC or otherwise.
I’m not saying they must only ever wear red socks, but I would want red socks for this.
If they were playing on the road against a red team, other-colored socks wouldn’t bother me. But these are made for home games, they say “RED SOX” on the front, and the wall being referenced has a prominent icon depicting red socks. Just Do It™.
LAME! The uniforms are green for a team named for RED!
I’m a Red Sox hater, but these are great. I do wish the two teams with “-Sox” names would actually wear socks in those color. Red socks would really pop here.
Yep, it’s a shame. That would have looked cool. Since most players wear long pants anyway, I don’t think it would have actually taken over the design all that much.
Yes, definitely a “H” and right down to a great- looking pair of “Sox.” I also like the notches on the back numerals, just a subtle tip to the manual numbers. Overall, just a great salute to a legendary green wall.
OK, back to the socks, a Fenway question for those in the know: Does the 310-foot LF designation include the Green Monster’s 37 feet, or is that only the distance to the corner?
That’s the distance from home plate to the base of the wall. Has nothing to do with the height of said wall.
These might have immediately become the most “appropriate” jersey to have an ad on, as there have been ads on outfield walls for years already.
Really nice. My only minor beef is that a team named the Red Sox don’t have red socks, even though red socks would make this uniform less visually appealing.
I have been dreading this day as much as I would be looking forward to my aunt’s fruitcake at the family Christmas diner. It is pleasant to know the Uncle brought a rum cake. Not a fan of the CC program. Prefer the Sox in red and blue. However, this actually looks like a baseball uniform. As a Red Sox, I wont have to turn the channel as I feared. Not crazy about the trim on the neck and sleeves but not a bad uniform at all. Kudos to white pants, a simple hat and a clean uniform. If we must have a CC program this is not bad and actually one of the better ones. Much better than the highlighter yellow, dark pants and gradients of so many other CCs.
I like ‘em! I wasn’t sure about the CC1.0 marathon ones, but they grew on me. These are even better. I love the jersey lettering and agree BOSTON would have been better.
I thought those uniforms were paying homage to the Celtics
Red Sox have had two really great CCs. Love em or hate em, the yellow marathon unis I think both honored the city and showed that a team could make a radical departure and still have it work. It also set the tone for surprise with the CCs.
With these it’s clear the Red Sox wanted to very much lean into the iconography of their park. I think it’s great that people are quibbling over details like it should say “Boston” instead of “Red Sox” or having the cap logo be the circle B or the lack of red socks–a sure sign that baseball fans love them because baseball fans love to argue. I would buy one of these except I loathe the Red Sox.
I wish the Yankees would be less stodgy and try a CC. Red Sox are just as traditional of a franchise as NYY and New Yprk City/Yankee Stadium has so much iconography that a CC could be awesome.
Of course it would be nice if they wore red socks exclusively, but that ship sailed a long time ago. Nothing else says these can’t be green. Only the reds have limited themselves to a strict color scheme. Also, red socks (or any major red elements) would have very much changed the look of the uni. This is a very nice set.
In addition to the color and design, there’s something about it that makes it look like a quality uni that other Nike unis like the giants and d-backs don’t have. The material of these looks like a decent uni. It seems to lack a sheen and flimsiness that other unis have.
What is NNOB?
Hi there Sean. NNOB means “No Name On Back.”
NNOB = “No Name On Back”
The blue Mass Mutual ad really ruins it for me. It would be so nice to have at least one set of uniforms per team without the ads, but we all know that’s not happening…sigh.
I’m thinking this is in the top 3 of the entire CC program. They really are that good. And even if it wasn’t a CC uni it’s still good design. I was hoping the cap would have the circle B logo but it actually turned out great. My only quibble is using Red Sox instead of Boston across the front.
I’m surprised by how many like these. Pretty dull. And I disagree whole heartedly about them not feeling forced. They feel totally forced to me. I’d much rather see the normal team colors, but incorporated into a crazy design. These are kind of boring for a uniform that will only be worn occasionally.
Not my idea but saw this elsewhere- would have been cool if it said “Fenway” across the chest i stead of Red Sox. But all in all I think these are pretty sweet.
Would be nice without the stupid ad patch. That ruins a good uniform. Let’s hope all the players keep them “uniform”. no stupidly odd colors for shoes/gloves/batting gear.
I’ve always been disappointed with how today’s jersey manufacturers kern the digits so close together, and with a “1” that has no serifs, it looks terrible, as we see in the picture of number 11 above. You can’t tell if that’s supposed to be 11, or a very fat 1 with a stripe through the middle, Toronto-style. Leave some more space between the digits when one of them is a 1.
Anyone think the pant strips are a nod to the Celtics’ uniform?
Are there similarities? Sure: link
But two stripes on a pair of pants/shorts, even if in the same colorscheme as a shared-city team, doesn’t mean it’s a nod to the Celtics.
Now, if you want to argue the designer(s) may have been subconsciously enamored of the Celtics look (the Sawx’ green jersey also has a similar collar/sleeve treatment: link) and added it, I’d buy that. But was it purposely done and specifically as a “nod” to the Celtics? I’d argue no, it’s not.
Correlation does not imply causation.
Not a Red Sox fan…. but, these are fantastic. I kinda like them more than their standard unis, but only if they added some sort of red to their socks. Even just a smidge…
Nice uni’s.
however can’t get over a team named the Red Sox not having red socks.
seems a little silly.
Best City Connects in MLB? I think so.
“…. it absolutely feels like the Sox themselves — rather than Nike’s design stable — developed the concept and put it into motion.”
Is there any evidence to make this claim or are y’all just assuming because the uniform looks good it couldn’t possibly be due to Nike?
There has already been a comment parroting this mindset and it seems a little unfair to paint that picture without any proof
I believe (not sure which thread) someone posted a pod (I think) where Troup Parkinson — the same guy who I spoke with at length about these uniforms — mentions it. But he also told the same to me…basically that these were a full two year effort and the team wanted near full control over the entire process. He also relayed the story to me that when the Sawx first told Nike they want the Green Monster green, the team was first presented with Wally the Green Monster green (link). They made sure the design team got as close a match of the actual wall green as possible, and apparently they had to go thru several revisions because the color wasn’t “right.” Troup gave me every indication the Sawx were involved in this even earlier than usual, and since it normally takes 18 months or less for a uniform to go from “vision” to on-field.
You also have to remember, this is the second go around for these 8 (and 9 if you count the Dodgers) teams, and I think almost every team with a new CC either improved or stayed the same. Only 2 have been a downgrade from their originals (IMO). I am willing to bet most of these teams have decided to take more control over the CC process the second time around.
This is one I can truly accept. The “Green Monster” and scoreboard are iconic. The Boston Marathon duds I was not a fan of. Just felt awkward. I get it. My wife has run the Boston Marathon and all of the attire she has is great. But, it just never felt like the Red Sox to me. THIS does!
To be frank, I’ve never been a fan of the CC program, period. That said, I know that it’s going to happen because Nike, and what can I do about it? My primary complaint with them is basic marketing; one simple glance should tell me what team I’m seeing. How much effort do you have to put into explaining what I’m seeing and why? If you can’t tell me in one simple sentence, it’s artificial and doesn’t represent what you say it does. On the other hand, if no explanation is needed, that’s a win.
This is a win; you KNOW it’s an homage to the Monster at first blush, and anyone that has watched MLB for any time at all will recognize it.
Good set, including the BP hat, but it should have read BOSTON on the jersey, or MONSTER. And the ad in green instead of blue, mimicking the ads on the wall. And the Sleeve B on the green hat, just as the BP has it. And…well, it is nice enough.
RED SOX are now the A’s. Makes sense. And yeah yeah yeah I get Fenway… Just seems absurd a team with their color in their name doesn’t use that color.
C’mon now, give us the Green Circle B for the hat! Using the regular logo just makes it look like a St. Pat’s cap. Otherwise, loving the design.
They can’t even get the placket placement right when the team name is two words of equal length.
If the jersey is the Green Monster, the hat should be the Citgo sign.
Weird.
