Hello! As many of you know, I accumulated a big collection of uniform style guides during my 25 years of doing Uni Watch. Now that it’s been nearly a year since I stepped away from the site, I’ve decided that it’s time to let someone else enjoy these rare items, so I’m going to be putting them up for sale.
Teams and leagues long ago stopped bothering with printed style guides (they now put all that stuff online), so these items I’ll be selling are all at least 20 years old. They’re fascinating documents and fun to pore over. My preference is for them to end up in the hands of Uni Watch readers, so I’ll begin by offering them here; if they don’t sell, I’ll list them on eBay.
The items I’ll be selling, most of which are shown in the photo above, will include the following:
- 1982-ish MLB Style Guide (details here)
- 1992-ish MLB Style Guide (details here)
- 1999 MLB Style Guide plus two accompanying CD-ROMs
- 1999 MLB Turn Ahead the Clock Style Guide plus accompanying CD-ROM
- 2000 MLB Style Guide
- 2001 MLB Style Guide
- 2002 MLB Style Guide
- 2003 MLB Style Guide
- 1980s-90s NFL Style Guide (details here)
- 1999 NFL Style Guide (details here)
- 1994 NFL throwback program style guide (not shown in photo above)
- Denver Broncos 1997 Brand Guide (not shown in photo above, but details here)
- New York Jets 2002 Brand Guide (not shown in photo above)
- XFL 2001 Style Guide CD-ROM (no printed version was issued)
- NHL 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2001-02, and 2002-03 Style Guides (I will probably sell these as a batch)
- Los Angeles Kings 2008 Brand Guide
- 2004-05 NBA style guide
- Big assortment of NBA style sheets from various years that I still have to sort, collate, etc.
I will be rolling these out slowly, beginning either later this week or early next week. The overall process will take at least several weeks, and possibly a few months. These items are all very rare and will be priced accordingly. I still need to do some preparation (photographing the individual guides, writing detailed descriptions, etc.), but if there’s any item you know you’re particularly interested in — or if you work for a library or archive and are interested in acquiring this collection for your institution — shoot me a note and we can talk.
I also have dozens, maybe hundreds, of vintage uniform catalogs, mostly dating from 1900 through the 1970s. After I sell off the style guides, I’ll turn my attention to the catalogs.
Thanks for listening. I’ll be back soon with the first item or two for sale. Meanwhile, in case you missed my recent Uni Watch merch/memorabilia sale, there are still a few items available.
Interested in the 92 MLB style guide, at least! Though I have no idea what these are gonna be listed for, so maybe they’re out of my price range. But I guess I’d at least like to see!
I missed the post when you received the 80s era style guide but noticed something odd on the Cardinals entry. There’s a brown color swatch on the page, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any brown on the uniforms?
Good spot! If you look at the dugout jacket, you can see that Slugger Bird appears to be standing on a branch. I believe that’s what the brown is for.
Because of the Padres, I think the 1982ish one is from 1984. It’s so awesome!
I’m interested in the 1982 MLB one!
Everything must go!
Nobody beats the Wiz. Nobody.
Interesting that the ’82 guide shows the Mets colors as 287 Blue and 165 Orange – which not the same blue as the Dodgers (294 Blue) nor the same orange as the Giants (166 Orange).
When we’ve been told that the Mets wear “Dodger Blue and Giant Orange” ad infinitum.
I hope Paul doesn’t sell his cats next.
