The Minnesota Twins have become the latest MLB team to tweak their City Connects. In an announcement on Twitter earlier this morning, the team announced they will wear white pants with the CC cap and jerseys.

Here’s how the CC’s will look when paired with the Twins white pants:

By contrast, here is how the team looked last season, the inaugural year of their City Connects.

The look was obviously not a hit with Twins fans — so the team is changing things up. Part of the problem, at least in MHO, was the fact that the pants were a solid royalish-blue, while the jersey featured the “ripple effect, which visually didn’t quite match the shade of the blue on the pants.
Teams altering their CC uniforms just gained another convert. Just this past weekend, the Mets added purple sleeves as a new accent, while other teams have been more drastic.
Last year the Pirates played around with several different mix-and-match options with their CCs. Prior to that, four other teams tweaked their CCs as well: They joined Baltimore, Arizona, Colorado and the LA Dodgers in mixing non-CC elements (or changing pants color, in the case of the D-Bax) with their original CC uniforms. The Mets became the sixth team to alter their CCs (albeit in a minor way), and now the Twins will be the seventh team to modify their original CC.
I wasn’t particularly a fan of the original royalish pants, probably for the same reasons the fans didn’t like them: they didn’t pair well with the sublimated texture and design of the jersey (although I am glad they didn’t have pants in the “ripple effect” either). So now it appears those pants will be mothballed.
Since MLB/Nike aren’t looking to sell CC pants, I’m sure they’re fine with the substitution: as long as the team continues to wear the CC caps and jerseys — which are available at retail — they’re ok with swapping out the royal blue pants.
Earlier today, the Twins confirmed they will wear their CCs every Friday home game this season, so tonight should be our first look at the new CC combo.
Start every weekend at The Lake!

What do you guys think of the switch? And should more teams look to change up their CC combinations? I’ll need to see the uniforms with the white pants in action, but I think this will be a positive change.
What say you?
[My thanks to Andrew Cosentino for bringing this to my attention!]
It’s an improvement and looks decent but much like someone other teams (my Mets for instance) it doesn’t look like a Twins uni. It’s in Brewers colors….
It’s another one that if done in twins Navy and red would probably be quite well received. This is what the Giants learned well on their new ones. You can add more colors but you need to keep at least something from your base unless their a clearly good obvious reason (ie Red Sox honor the marathon/city flag and the new monster ones)
I called this during my review last year!
The sublimated jersey and plain blue pants looks like a rushed project for art class. White pants with blue and yellow stripes would help this set out. Hopefully the Twins follow what other City Connects that featured dark pants did and replace them at some point. The sooner the better.
Any word whether they’re also ditching the awful 10,000 Lakes patch on the cap? That was maybe even worse than the blue pants.
“Earlier today, the Twins confirmed they will wear their CCs every home game this season, so tonight should be our first look at the new CC combo.”
I sincerely hope this was a typo.
That would be insane
It’s every Friday home game. The tweet below that sentence shows it.
Ugh. Yes — meant to say “Every FRIDAY” home game.
Now fixed.
Breaking up the mono-color CC trend has been an improvement for every single team
Hopefully the Giants have seen this and will respond.
I think their new CC could work if they switched the cap for the regular home ones, the jerseys for the regular home ones and the pants for the regular home ones…
Phil, the issue you identified with the pants not matching the jersey is very common in soccer, and is one of my biggest uniform pet peeves. A jersey will often have some sort of graphic while the shorts are just the plain base colour, which causes an annoying mismatch.
I agree that the rippled blue jersey with the royal blue pants didn’t look good.
But I think it’s kind of lame that, in many cases, baseball teams seem so averse to wearing colored pants.
Maybe the Mariners will take a hint from the Twinkies and get rid of those awful black pants with their CC.
An improvement! However, the 100 lakes on cap kills the uniform. The colors go well together but doesn’t resemble the Twins. All uniforms should be in current team colors (hello Boston).
Agree, with the above writer that the Mariners should shit can the black pants as should all other teams with dark pants!
D-BACKS!!! NOT D-BAX!!! That is so damn annoying. I mean it’s THREE letters. This country is getting so damn ridiculously lazy when it comes to spelling. How damn hard is it to spell out a word? FFS.
It’s not that hard to spell out three more words, and yet you ended with an abbreviation…
And it’s Diamondbacks, not D-Backs, and not D-Bax.
Apparently you got my point though. Plus, I don’t think you’d have wanted me to write out what FFS is for anyway.
Also, and this was my error, I meant three more LETTERS, not words.
I would also like to take the time ask and try to understand why all the strong dislike toward Minor Leagues uniforms and promotions/events. It seems that anytime something about the Minor Leagues is brought up, it’s always referred to as “gimmicky” or basically garbage. So what everyone is saying is that one off jerseys and team name changes that support A LOT of good, worthy charities and illnesses/diseases, such as Cancer Awareness, Autism Awareness, Literacy Awareness, just to name a few causes are gimmicks? Wow!!! Does no one that comments or reads this site have anyone is their families or friends families that have suffered from any serious illness, disease or disorder?
Then there are those hate on the Military and Vererans hats and jerseys. As a Veteran of the United States Navy, I truly appreciate these gestures. It might be just a small thing, but it’s appreciated by lots of Veterans.
I absolutely prefer the Minor Leagues to the Major Leagues because of all the “gimmicky” promotions and events and different alternate identies that they do. That’s what names MiLB so special and awesome. They come up with some of the best alternate names and logos. It’s nice to be able to pick up a hat or jersey with the new identity on it. I also absolutely LOVE the COPA Cup. I think it’s fantastic that MiLB reaches out to the Hispanic and Latin communities and supports them. They need our support now more than ever before.
Well, I’ve gone on long enough. I await with baited breath any and all replies. Have a wonderful evening!!!
Organized crime has done many charitable things.

Do you support them as well? If so, wow!!!
Minor league promotions *are* gimmicky. Most (not all, but most) of them are schlocky and they lead to some pretty horrible looking uniforms. Are you trying to tell me that is THE only way to raise money and awareness for charities or for the military? Teams can’t just donate to these causes without making a big spectacle of themselves?
Here’s an idea…if you want fans to help donate, why not just announce, “At our next game, we’re raising money for _______. Please consider contributing to this worthy cause.” That’s it.
If you like these gimmicks, fine. Enjoy them. But a lot of people don’t. That doesn’t automatically make them heartless uncharitable people. It just means they want professional ballplayers to look professional.
what I appreiciate greatly about uniwatch is hearing from people with all different perspectives on uniforms. it helps me to stretch my thinking and see how something that brings me joy, brings others joy also. Jim and Phil I appreciate all you do and Jonly I appreciate all you have done and your passion for minor league baseball. I hope you all have a nice weekend! (sorry if my writting has errors, people with adhd can struggle with ela :)
I don’t think it is correct to state that the Mets “altered their CC. uniform”
Some players (but not all) elected to wear (long) purple sleeves under their jerseys. There was no change to the jersey or any other portion of the uniform. Your comment (and post last week) insinuates that the Mets changed the sleeve color of the jerseys. The undersleeves are an accessory but not a core component of the uniform. It is unlikely that anyone will wear long sleeves in warmer weather.
These city connect jersey are horrible. Looks like some DIV III college uniforms. Nike blows. Bring back Rawlings jerseys.
Thanks for the shout out! I’m presently surprised that I’m the one who broke this news.
All in all, the white pants are an improvement. However, it only highlights the issue with the entire CC program. It’s almost like it’s just a merch grab! Almost…
The white is a vast improvement. With the all-blue, they should have had yellow socks. Now, maybe royal socks would be better.
Minneapolis and Milwaukee, please help the rest of us out and try not to criss-cross color schemes. If these had kept the TC mongram it might help somewhat, but the Twins wearing what I consider to be Brewers colors is confusing.
This one is annoying because I do consider it to be an attractive uniform in many respects, but I don’t like it as a Twins uniform. I want the TC or MN monogram on the cap, and the state map logo as a sleeve patch.
If the St. Louis Blues had a baseball team, this would be a good template to use.
Hope the Tigers do something similar. Ditch the darks pants and the two-tone batting helmet, and wear their regular home caps and helmets. Wouldn’t mind their CC if it was just a jersey top instead of a whole costume.
MLB, NBA, and NFL in a race to the bottom. So far, it’s a three-way tie. How did we get here? An endless parade of crappy uniforms. Random colors. Bizarre designs. All ugly and totally off brand. Thank God for the NHL.
Because they are all Nike. And Nike is a business. They will create this crap just to sell it.
I do not like sublimation patterns, gradients and unnecessary storytelling in uniforms. White pants look slightly better but this uniform is still a mess.
