San Francisco Giants Unveil New City Connect Uniforms

The San Francisco Giants have finally unveiled their new for 2025 City Connect uniforms, confirming the earlier leaks. The team will debut the uniforms tonight when they face the Cincinnati Reds.

In the leak, we were only privy to the jersey. Now we can see the full uniform:

According to MLB, the uniform is a “remixed” look inspired by San Francisco’s rich musical history.

As you can see, the jerseys are a dark gray/black, and feature “Giants” in a script wordmark outlined in a purple and orange gradient. The sleeves will feature a special glove design which as I correctly ascertained from the leak, says “San Francisco Giants Est 1958” in a style which is very reminiscent of San Francisco rock music posters from the 1960s. Also correctly identified are the waves (the team is calling them “sound waves” which are “pressed like grooves on vinyl”) that permeate the jersey. Front jersey numbers are orange, in a whimsical font.

Jersey sleeves feature a thick stripe in an orange->purple gradient. The caps have an “SF” logo in the same font style as “Giants” on the jersey front, also outlined in a purple/orange gradient. The cap is dark gray/black with a orange/purple gradient bill.

Rear jersey numbers are white, also outlined in the purple/orange gradient.

The pants are (mercifully) white with a single orange/purple gradient stripe running down the sides. Special CC socks will be worn with the uniform.

No City Connect unveiling would be complete without some storytelling…

The team also produced a hype video which shows additional views of the uniform along with the storytelling.

The team calls the look “remixed” and is inspired by San Francisco’s rich musical history.

And what about the purple? According to MLB, the purple is meant to evoke the Fillmore’s stage lights and Haight-Ashbury’s posters. It also supposedly pays tribute to the franchise’s New York origins, as the Giants briefly wore violet from 1913-17 as a nod to New York University. I find that a bit of a stretch, but whatever.

I’ll need to wait to see these uniforms in action and on the field (which will be happening this evening) before I make a formal declaration — but this one may be quite divisive (as many CCs are). Personally, I love the concept and even the storytelling (as an old Deadhead, much of my musical tastes were formed by the San Francisco bands) and I think the glove patch is fantastic. I do find the purple inclusion (at least as an ode to the NY Giants “violet” uniforms from more than 100 years ago) a stretch, but the purple and orange work well with each other. The “grooves” (waves) won’t likely be visible at any distance, and I’m pleased the team has chosen white pants to pair with the dark top. I don’t love the whimsical font (that feels more like a 1990s TV show on Nickolodeon than anything out of the 1960s), but at least it will be easy to read.

What are your thoughts?

Reason number #97 to stop with the city connect jersey nonsense. It’s jumped the shark about a dozen times over. Just another jersey that people can shell out $150 for and wear two or three times.

Seems like gradient is in for this batch. They kind of remind me of Baltimore’s but I do like them. Tbf I am a fan of alternates and the city connect program. There’s for sure been some duds, but that’s to be expected.

The whole explanation of the City Connect scheme was basically Nike & MLB looking at MiLB gimmick jerseys and saying, “why not us?”

The problem lies in the failure of MLB to understand that while kitsch comes off as charming in the minors, it doesn’t work in the big leagues.

Not as good as the orange alts, which reference the 1970s Giants tops and are hella cool, but a massive upgrade over the regular home uniforms (beige, yuck). I’ll take it.

“a massive upgrade over the regular home uniforms”

That is a WILD take to see appear on a site like Uni-Watch.

It was a fun reply, too, and also true. I never liked the Pac Bell Park redesign of the Giants’ uniforms. The off-white always hit my eye wrong; the numbers on the back have a very strange block shape that seems unusually wide; even the fancy bumps and bounces on the GIANTS word mark feels bad compared to the smooth lettering on the previous unis.

So yeah. These improve on a uniform I don’t like, and by more than a little bit.

I don’t know that these are necessarily an IMPROVEMENT, but I will agree that the Giants’ home creams are VASTLY overrated. If they made them white and got rid of the gold trim, they’d be near-perfect home uniforms. Everyone overlooks these massive shortcomings they refuse to change for some reason…in the name of trying to be a classicist with cream uniforms, I guess.

You’ve got to be kidding me. You think THESE are good and their home CREAM uniforms are bad? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone describe their home uniforms as bad, they’re also the only jersey that hasn’t changed since 2000 apart from the names on back. What a strange sentiment.

As a native to the Bay Area and lifetime giants fan, my friends and I have been clowning this non stop since the news broke. That hat belongs at a gas station or at best a tourist souvenir shop. The jersey is way over explained for such a generic execution. “No famous Bay Area musicians were used in the making of this uni.”

As a diehard Giants fan myself… I could not have said it better!! Lmao you hit the nail on the head!

Jerseys are rough. Hats are pretty cool, though. A lot of CC hats have been decent in a vacuum, to be honest. Not something that gets mentioned enough, because the talk about the jerseys overcrowds the discussion. As a hat collector, I’d consider getting a flex fit of it.

They are somehow better than the first iteration of the Giants city connects, but they are still very silly. The caps are pretty all right, and the jerseys will do really well with the 10-14 year old demographic.

There’s a massive disconnect here. They jersey screams “hippie/60’s”. I love the glove patch, that’s an amazing work of art.

Then the hype video features a bunch of hip-hop artists from the EAST BAY (P-Lo, LaRussell and DaBoi). Anyone hip to the region knows how that comes across.

I love all those artists, but none is from SF proper. I’m guessing Larry June was out of their budget range?

There’s nothing “60s/hippies” whatsoever about the typeface used for the chest script. Looks more 90s to me. None of the elements of this thing fit together. Leaving aside the weirdness of _almost_ making it in your regular colors but then deciding “this needs purple”.

Sure, all CC are unnecessary. But as far as CC unis go, this one is a hit. Legible design and good vibes.

    This isn’t bad at all.

*The script seems to be unable to decide if it’s hippy or hip hop. While not necessarily legible I’m surprised they didn’t go whole hog (Pig-pen?) with the dead-style font. Still it’s legible and contrasts well
    link

*The sound waves like the Washington ones are really not noticeable.

*I like that they kept the team colors and violet is fine since it is a call back (The giants are one of the few team that you can literally trot out almost any color and they’ve worn it at some point.) This is how you add colors though while still making it look like a Giants Uni

    * Patches and socks are great. Again the theme makes sense, it’s not a stretch at all.

    * Only issue I have is with the cap logo which should have been Violet/Orange gradient of the SF monogram.

All in all perfectly acceptable, it fits and while it’s not an all timer it’s a big improvement of the prior one.

Pretty much my own exact thoughts, though I don’t mind the hat myself. Otherwise I would agree pretty much word for word.

    Does this look amateurish? Yes.
Does it look like a tween’s idea of a great uni? Yes.
    Does it slapp? Yes.

I hate everything about these. The storytelling makes me want to vomit. I have been to the Fillmore many times, and have many Fillmore posters. That patch is great as a stand alone item, but terrible for a baseball uniform. San Francisco is made of so many distinct districts, each with their own personality. To carve out one, which to be frank, hasn’t been all that relevant in almost 50 years is bordering on disrespectful.
The worst part, I like this jersey more that CC 1. But the cap is just awful. I actually own a CC 1 cap, I at least could find something I liked from that set. But this set just doesn’t work for me. I’m glad I live 2 timezones away from San Francisco now and miss most week night games.

Nobody would ever accuse me of having hip-hop cred. I was hoping the letters and numbers would go in more of a Rick Griffin-inspired direction.

I don’t find these to be atrocious, or even that bad. What I do find them is completely forgettable. Nothing pops out at me here at all.

Looks like a baseball uniform, but a minor league team. At least it is (mostly) team colors and is legible. Better than most CC designs (that is a very low bar), but my reaction is really a “meh” and it feels like it is there just because it they need to add a new design to sell more merch.

I don’t care for the CC program and believe the Giants have traffic uniforms as is. The only change I would make to the current set is to wear the orange bill cap more often, especially with the road grays.

As for this uniform, it isn’t too bad. When I first saw the jersey, I hated it. However, the pants and cap help the appearance tremendously. I hope the players wear black undershirts as orange or purple would resemble a highlighter. The sound waves can’t be noticed. I doubt the purple will be very visible either. I love that it doesn’t have black or colored pants. Compared to all of the previous CCs we have seen over the years, this would be 14 or so, if I ranked them. Although, I would prefer the Giants never wear this; at least it looks like a baseball uniform more so than many of the clown suits other teams have worn,

Had they stuck with the font theme in the glove logo it would have been so much better. Agree with Phil, it just screams Nickelodeon to me.

What’s going to hurt these even more for me is that they landed the same season as the cubs music themed unis. Now, those cubs unis don’t really knock it out of the park with the music connection either (it’s a subtle Gibson guitar reference and a guitar pick shape, meh) the connection IS clear and the uni is gorgeous AND looks like a professional baseball uni AND a cubs uni. I’m from the Bay Area just south of SF. The music scene there is tremendous and has touched on multiple genres over multiple generations. The giants are very aware of this, as they have collaborated in different ways with different artists over the decades they’ve been in SF. If this was meant to be a throwback to the early hippie days, they have a long history of working with the Grateful Dead. If nothing else they could have consulted with the remaining members and the visual artists who worked with them to craft a design. In an ideal world, given that they claim connections to SFs music venues and posters, they’d get those artists to design the uni. This uni feels like Nike designers and corporate put something together not knowing if they wanted to tribute hippie rock, Metallica, or the bay rap scene, and in the end succeeded at none of it. I also call bs on the purple as a tribute to the 4 seasons that they wore purple in New York 110 years ago. That has NOTHING at all to do with SF or the music scene. That’s a designer throwing purple in (maybe they had a reason… maybe it’s the lights at the venues?) and someone else on the job came in and said “dude! I just went down a rabbit hole, and it turns out they wore purple before! Put that in the storytelling! That’s perfect!” It’s a detail that was better left out as it’s essentially a smoking gun that shoots holes in the entire design concept and the storytelling that justifies it.

Every city can claim to have a “music scene”. What a vague, nebulous, and altogether lazy way to try to appeal to a broad fan base.
I guess it beats the alternative of putting a middle finger on the jersey; it would be honest but people are not interested in honesty anymore.

A baseball jersey that has nothing to do with baseball. It’s awful. It dilutes the brand. And the hype video? Vomit.

Might as well say “Casuals Only”

I would ALWAYS prefer no CCs–more uniforms is by definition worse, because as others have said, it dilutes the brand.

That being said, these at least make “sense.” They are overdesigned, baseball uniforms do not need gradients or sublimated textures. But at least they have an identifiable raison d’être. I file this in the same folder as I don’t want any advertisements but I’d prefer a local company with authentic connections to the team than some random brand that makes no sense.

It’s fine. Not good, but better than what they had. I can think of a handful of CC that are worse than these.

If I bought a ticket to a game and they were wearing this i would be extremely disappointed.

Hideous. Not just in conception but execution. Looks like 90s-era graphic design shovelware CD-ROMs in human form.

I didn’t like it when I saw the leak, but they seem to work better as a full package. Not my taste, but I’m probably not the audience. I don’t like the gradient on the bill, so not a cap I’d consider buying.

But – I do like that they are doing the dark jersey over white pants. The mono colors are tough for me to embrace for some reason. Seattle, for example, would like so much better with white pants!

I like the City Connect things, but I’d put these at the lower middle of the pack.

All around bad, the hat works on its own as a fashion item (which is the whole idea for CCs). Nothing about this set works cohesively, white pants really dont work here.

This is the stupidest crap I have ever seen in my entire life. The absolute worst uniform that has ever been unearthed in any of the four major sports. I’m not kidding. Fucking awful.

Embarrassing is the best word I could find. Trash is another. They’ve managed to turn the team into a cartoon.

I like the patch & the gradient accent — instantly reminded me of the 1989 Donruss cards. And hey, they were in the WS that year!

I am a Giants fan and thought this uni was a joke when it was first leaked. I absolutely hated it but have to admit it looks better on a player than the original pics. It’s still unnecessary but I moved the needle from hate to dislike.

Long-time SF Giants fan and I’m an older dude. I hated these when I first saw them. But now, when I see the whole shebang and the story behind them — I like them. I ordered the cap today! I’ll also go as far as saying these are an improvement on the orange creamsicle CCs that came out a couple of years ago. As for the NYU violet, I’ve pasted the interesting brand guide link for the Violets of NYU. link

I was born in SF just a mile away from Haight/Ashbury during the 60s. Apparently, some folks are still stuck on LSD (Laughing Stock Design). To the staff at Nike, please get help and go to rehab. Stop the madness.

I look forward to the next SF CC that will no doubt pay homage to Full House and Too Close For Comfort.

Man, the comments in here are so sad. I think its time for the old heads to hang it up. These are great and arent supposed to appeal to the boomers. Its a young man’s game now.

It’s supposed to be a game for people of all ages. Maybe it’s time for people who think age discrimination is okay to hang it up.

And not everyone who dislikes this uniform is automatically a boomer. I’m not one, for starters.

As a fan of hippy-dippy artwork, psychedelic posters, and Grateful Dead and Yes album covers, this feels like a missed opportunity. These could have been so much better, given the basic premise and source material.

If I didn’t see the shoulder patch (and the requisite storytelling guide), I wouldn’t know what they were going for. If you need an accompanying text and video to explain the visual design, then it’s not a successful design.

I will never EVER forgive everyone involved for getting rid of the beautiful “SF” road alternate jerseys for a godawful CC merch dump. Both Giants CC costumes are absolute garbage.

I kind of find these middling. Not great, not terrible. I think some elements of them work for what they were going for (the cap, the gradient, the sleeve patch) and some miss the mark (the world mark font most of all).

Also, I don’t know if it’s the influence of social media on our societal brains or what, but I’ve commenting on this site in one form or another since 2006 and it seems like the comment sections of any kind of uniform reveal now are way more overdramatic and hyperbolic than they’ve ever been (and that’s saying a lot)

What is that? No idea what I’m looking at? That’s somehow music related? Really? It’s garbage, but I’m sure it’ll sell. No accounting for taste.

I like almost nothing about this in any detail. But on the whole, it basically looks like the Giants, which is almost unique among CC uniforms, so I give it a passing grade. C-plus, B-minus territory for me. Even if I were a Giants fan, I would want no element of this as fan merchandise, but neither would I particularly mind seeing my team wear this in a game.

They aren’t terrible by being illegible or being completely uninspired, or event totally abandoning the team’s color scheme. If I made them for my rec softball team I think we would be pretty cool. There isn’t a ton ‘wrong’ with them per-se, they just don’t belong anywhere near MLB.

The only thing I liked was the glove patch, although I’m rethinking that now. It’s supposed to be in the style of the Summer of Love (1967) but it has 1958 in the center of it. The Giants wordmark is at least legible but it definitely gives off 1990s cartoon vibes. The addition of, and storytelling behind, adding purple is just miserably laughable.

Makes me want to go back to being a A’s fan. Terrible looking , hate them , nothing about them is cool or retro, doesn’t make me think of SF in the 60’s-70’s, makes me think of K-tel records . Whom ever designed and or approved these should be replaced just like these uniforms should be.

This hits the same vibes that make me love the Tampa city connect, so it’s ok by me just for the look alone…but these aren’t good.

If they’d just called this an ode to the (current) Bay Area hip hop scene, it woulda be perfectly fine. Using a bunch of recognizable Gen-Z artists, DJs and local personalities is a smart move. LaRussell, who’s narrating the video and prominently featured created the team’s anthem for 2025.

The problem is they simply tried to get too cute and encompass too many genres of music at once. The glove logo is clearly a signifier of hippie rock, and it’s out of place here.

That said, I don’t hate this at all. It’s a clever move to cater to younger audiences. The uniform is outside the box, which I give them credit for. Every MLB fan isn’t some stodgy old guy sitting in the stands with a transistor radio and manually keeping stats. This video somehow managed to make going to an MLB game seem interesting to me.

I didn’t think the Giants city connects could get worse, but I guess I wasn’t thinking hard enough. This looks like the garbage tourists buy at the Golden Gate Bridge gift shop because they didn’t realize it gets cold there.

No, no, no. It looks like a cheap knockoff. Too many ideas rolled into a pile of tye die with a horrible font. The music scene connection is so far fetched. The only detail I like is the glove logo, which would look nice on a hat (without tye die, please. What is it with a certain generation of guys, bald but wearing ponytails, grey beards and Birkenstocks, who want to cover everything they see in self made tye die?).
