Welcome to the weekend. As you may know, before I started writing for this site*, I worked at a grocery store to pay the bills while I was in college. Often, I would work a closing shift (at this particular store, 3 PM to 11 PM) with a handful of other people roughly my age. The place would be dead after 8:30 or 9, especially on a weeknight. This gave us lots of free time to discuss many, many things. I do remember one conversation I had with some of my coworkers on one of those nights, about what our least favorite sports uniforms were.
This was in 2015 or 2016. Three of the teams we talked about still haven’t changed.
Los Angeles Angels

Leaving aside their identity crisis in the mid-2000s (they are, officially, the Los Angeles Angels — no more “of Anaheim” suffix), the Angels have been pretty much unchanged since dropping their Disney uniforms ahead of the 2002 season. And while they instantly won their first World Series in the new threads (and were pretty competitive for the remainder of the 2000s), it is now more than time for the Angels to ditch the red. It has never made sense to me that a team called “the Angels” wore red, a color traditionally associated with the devil and demons. Let’s get some golds and blues up in here, some really heavenly shit.
I’ve never liked the wordmark — it’s always felt off-center and unbalanced to me. I’ve also never liked their sleeve patch. It’s just their cap logo, on the sleeve. It was extremely annoying when the Angels had both the roundel-A and cap logo sleeve patch, but then they kept the worse one when they added the ad patch!
Also: put the location name on the road jersey. I don’t care whether it’s Anaheim or Los Angeles or even California. Just please put it on the road jersey. Few things annoy me more in baseball, especially when the Angels’ wordmark is as weak as it is.
Dallas Mavericks

I’ve made no secret my disdain for the Mavericks’ unis (see this piece from after the NBA trade deadline), but it is kind of mindblowing to me that the team has been virtually unchanged since 2001, Mark Cuban’s first full season owning the team. Think about how long ago 2001 actually was. Everyone had a 70-pound CRT TV. AIM was the height of social media. Cell phones looked like this. Bill Clinton was still president for the first three weeks of that year!
It makes sense that Cuban, who became one of the very first tech billionaires, pivoted the Mavericks away from their previous identity towards the Y2K aesthetic, which was omnipresent at the time. What doesn’t make sense is that it’s stuck around for a quarter-century, long after the aesthetic faded into obscurity.
The fact that the Mavs have retained these for so long astounds me. They weren’t particularly good in 2001, and they’re extremely dated now. I would love to see the Mavs reorient their identity around this year’s City Editions, which have a more Dallas-y feel, in addition to being unlike any other primary look in the NBA.
Boston Bruins

Perhaps my most controversial pick for this piece. The Bruins first adopted this look back in 2007 (time flies) after a decade wearing what fans now call the Joe Thornton-era unis.
The adoption of this set marked a turning point in Bruins history. The offseason before, the Bruins used their vacant cap space from the Thornton trade to add towering defenseman Zdeno Chara and forward Marc Savard. With the emergence of youngsters Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Krejci, the Bruins became one of the best teams in the NHL in the 2010s.
But now it’s 2025. Chara, Krejci, and Bergeron are retired. Savard’s been retired for over a decade following concussion issues. Marchand has been traded for one last Cup run. The Bruins are on a ten-game losing streak at the time of writing.
Like the team, the unis are starting to creak. The logo, which at the time seemed fresh and clean, now feels a bit busy. The shoulder yokes, which once felt retro, now just feel dated. The Bruins also dropped yellow socks for black in 2017, which downgraded the look of the home uni. When the team adopted their centennial season unis in 2023, it really brought to light just how much better the Bruins could look.
Now, the B’s are all but confirmed to be dropping these unis at the end of the season, and (if the leak is to be believed) will be addressing basically all of my concerns. Like in 2007, it seems to be the perfect time to say goodbye and usher in a new era of Bruins hockey with a new uniform. Let’s just hope they have yellow socks.
Tampa Bay Rays

Moving from a team whose current look was adopted in 2007 to a team whose current look was adopted in 2008, the Tampa Bay baseball team has now spent nearly twice as long as the “Rays” than they ever did as the “Devil Rays.” One of the first critiques I ever remember hearing about the Rays’ look was that they went from looking like a professional baseball team to looking like a Florida retirement home’s baseball team, and that still feels right today.
There’s widespread nostalgia for the (Devil) Rays’ original, 90s-tastic look, but I was always partial to their second look, which they started wearing after only three seasons with their first identity. I feel like they could go back to this with minimal changes and instantly be one of the better-looking teams in MLB, instead of one of the most forgettable.
Also: neither MLB team I’ve chosen for this list has their location on their road jersey. I wasn’t thinking about that when I chose them (both the Angels and Rays were chosen because their looks are boring and forgettable and were adopted when I was a kid, and now I’m 30), but now I feel like I have to point it out.
Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder’s identity has always felt like a placeholder that everyone kind of forgot was a placeholder. There is nothing about the Thunder’s colorway, fonts, or logos that actually evokes “Thunder.” Where are the menacing deep greys and purples, like the sky during a thunderstorm? Where are the lightning bolts?
Don’t even get me started on this logo. It looks like clip art, and could be used for a basketball team called literally anything as long as they called Oklahoma City home. Back in 2015, the incomparable Zach Lowe ranked all 30 NBA team logos for Grantland. The Thunder were last. He spoke with designer Dick Sakahara, who worked with the Thunder on their identity, who told him that he had “a lot of bison [designs] that never got to be.” How cool would a bison logo be for Oklahoma’s only pro sports team? Lowe also spoke with Brian Byrnes, then the Thunder’s senior vice president for marketing and sales, who told Lowe “We didn’t feel like having professional players represented by [an] animal was where we wanted to be.” Someone should remind Byrnes of the Lions, Tigers, Eagles, Bulls, Cubs, Grizzlies, Cardinals, Bears…you get the idea.
The Thunder could be really cool. Instead, they’re really not.
*I also worked at a grocery store for many years while still writing for this site, but that’s neither here nor there.
Great piece! But if you discuss a Rays revamp, you have to consider… Best fauxback ever! 1979!
Hear hear!
It’s hard to put any NBA team on this list seeing as no NBA team has any visual identity at this point. When you have fifty uniforms to wear, why bother changing your “core” uniform set? Question: What’s dipped more, the NBA’s uniform code or its boring and unwatchable style of play?
It’s 4 (except the handful of teams that get that 5th retro), not 50.
But his point is a good one. When you turn on an NBA game, you have to look at the scoring to know who is playing and which team is in which jersey. It feels like we’ll eventually see the Lakers in orange or something equally ridiculous.
Yes, I was exaggerating to make my point regarding uniforms. Not exaggerating: No one should be turning on an NBA game to see the uniforms at this point because even when stars aren’t “load managing” and actually choose to play, NBA games are a tedious snooze fest. It gets marginally better during the playoffs when the players start trying. Marginally.
I blame Nike more than anything for this trend. While the “black for black’s sake” trend may have started in the early 90s, it expanded when Nike started introducing uniform sets to colleges that in colors not part of the schools’ identities. Teams could wear uniforms of any random color during any given game, making tradition and history irrelevant, and also making it difficult to identify a team without looking at the scorebug. Eventually made its way to the pro sports, and now NBA teams suffer from on-court identity crises (MLB has followed with Nike’s City Connect uniforms).
Hm. Implying that the players in the US professional league that largely is played by African Americans lazy. That a choice.
I deeply apologize if my comments were interpreted that way. Not my intention at all. I probably should’ve stuck to uniform talk, since that is the primary focus here. But for the record, my distaste for the NBA is mostly due to the lack of variety in the style of play. I’d echo comments recently made by Draymond Green, that the game lacks strategy. The late Kobe Bryant called it “accidental basketball” which I think is the perfect description. There’s no real struggle. As Bryant said, it’s all penetrate and pitch, maybe the shot goes in, maybe it doesn’t. As for load management … Wilt Chamberlain played almost 48 minutes per game for a good chunk of his career. Today’s stars play about 35. And they’re still going to sit out? If you’re hurt, fine. But if not, it’s an insult to ticket buyers to rest. I don’t understand the number of games some MLB players sit out either. At any rate, I apologize if you took offense. I just miss the NBA of my youth, I guess.
I agree the Angels and Rays need some refreshing as they are too plain. The Angels could switch to a dark cap and it would be a huge improvement. I like the Rays current colors but would prefer to see the light blue used more often and with wording rather than the sun thing. A two tone cap would help. I also think the Astros need adjusting. The navy and orange are good colors but the uniform is too bland. The use of more orange would be an improvement.
The Atlanta Falcons have good colors but terrible uniforms. Other teams need minor tweaks (Houston needs to start over). I would love to see all helmets be gloss. The matte trend is to plain and boring.
A great way for Houston to get under the Titans’ skin would be to adopt a logo of a pumpjack, with the walking beam and spinning counterweight.
No real argument with this list…I’m an Angels fan and totally agree with you (my only Angels hat is a 70’s throwback).
But I am STUNNED at the omission of the Colorado Rockies: The colors are straight out of the 90s (purple and black) and the primary cap logo is horrendous. There’s just so much more that could be done with that team name and location.
Scott and Anthony nailed it on the head. The Angels cap looks rough and loved how Anthony brought up needing more blue and yellow. 60s & 70s angels caps are some of the best ever in baseball, especially halo one!
Yes, the cap Halo was such a unique feature, that should make it’s return. So was the Interlocking C+A. But that ship has sailed.
agree, interlock C&A does look really nice!
Not entirely sure how purple and black are 90s colors. I mean, are the Cardinals overdue because they are using 1920s colors?
How does that work?
Purple may have been overused in the 90’s but unlike the Hornets’ or Raptors’ use of the color, the Rockies’ purple is a direct reference to their name i.e. “purple mountain majesties”. Plus with Arizona’s love-hate relationship with the color, the Rockies basically are the only purple team in MLB. I’m not a huge fan of the interlocking “CR” myself, but while there are a lot of things wrong with the Rockies as an organization, generally the uniforms aren’t one of them.
Agreed. The Angels seriously need to go back to their original colors and stay there. The Rays also need to revert back to their original late 90s gradient look.
Agree with R, I thinknthe current rays cap doesn’t fit. The original with animal on it would seem best
MLB – Seattle Mariners . So much could be done with that theme and the uniforms just look tired and under achieving.
NHL – Dallas Stars. Always felt this was just a rip-off of Chicago’s template.
NFL – Arizona Cardinals. Blow it up, start over.
Though I don’t mind the uniform, can’t argue your take on the Stars’ template. When it was unveiled though, the first thing I thought about is the dark uniform looked really influenced by the U. of North Dakota hockey team uniform. Even a simple change from black helmets to green would be an upgrade for the Stars.
Earlier I forgot the Mariners I really like there colors but navy is overused. I believe the green is unique! I believe more use of green and tweaking the lettering would be a huge improvement.
The only NBA I see is here and on Sportscenter but the uniforms league wide are a disaster. Teams like the Lakers, Celtics and Bulls should have never changed their uniforms, Some teams are iconic like the Yankees. Steelers and Cowboys and any changes are blasphemous to me.
“Blow it up, start over” is how I feel about the Tennessee Titans, even after their recent changes.
the Boston debate seems difficult because of the Bobby Orr factor. Seems like a franchise that benefits from multiple sets, including 90s bear head, original 1920s.
As a Bruins fan, I’d like to see them go back to a yellow/gold sweater for home games, but I think that ship sailed a long time ago.
They do need a refresh though. Based on what was seen in the potential leak, I am not sure that’s enough. Will need to see the “whole package”.
I’d say Tennessee Titans, Dallas cowboys, Atlanta falcons, Texas rangers, Arizona diamondbacks, like half the NBA.
Atlanta Falcons are desperately in need of a new logo. And with a new logo, they should go back to having red as their primary color.
I am a sports uniform aficionado, you know I have thought about changes I would make to most all the uniforms (some only subtle details). If I need to single one out in a Big Four league, here are the major uniform perpetrators that need a revamp.
NBA: Seems like too many teams wearing double blue, which is confusing. Let’s just start with getting teams back to their visual identities. We need to mitigate that disaster before we can move forward.
NFL: Tennessee Titans
MLB: Miami Marlins (just go back to the original look)
NHL: Washington Capitals no. 1 on the list until they shake the Reebok Edge hangover.
Rays should use blue and green. Unique in MLB. Always liked their 2nd set of unis. Thought they were underrated.
Dear God, where shall I start? I could give you 2,000 words right off the top of my head, but rather than bore everyone, I will stick to the teams discussed so far.
The Rockies are okay, they just need lettering that is less spindly. The Angels need to pull a complete Jim Fregosi, right up to the halos on the caps. The only thing that bothers me about the Rays is the omission of “Tampa Bay” on the grey jersey (you heard me). The Astros’ problems would be mollified by vertically-arched titles. I wish the Mariners would revert to the Trident and “Seattle” lettering of their expansion year, but I like the current color scheme.
The Mavericks need to replace the navy blue with Kelly Green and ditch the 1990s Letraset font. The old Golden State uniforms with the thunderbolts would make good OKC apparel.
I would like to see the Bruins adopt the 1970s uniforms, but their current walking bear is preferable to the old “meth bear”. Dallas is a complete teardown; their logo needs to be a sheriff’s badge, presumably in the shape of a snowflake.
The Football Cardinals need to wear anything Dan Dierdorf wore.

Avalanches? That’s terrible
Agreed. To me, the only thing worse than having a singular name is to force it to be a plural. The Heats? The Thunders? No thanks.
The Blue Jays have a white panel cap but haven’t worn it in a few years. I do disagree with you, however, and wish they’d wear it all the time at home. One of my favorite caps in baseball.
Guardians and Twins – too many red and navy teams. so forgettable
Great list, but how could you leave out the other NBA team whose logo looks like clip art AND they don’t actually have ream colors – the Brooklyn Nets?
I agree with your list with the exception of the Bruins. Those are classic. My pet peeve is with the Nike-branded NFL. Way too many uni’s there are butchered. The Falcons, Broncos, Rams, Jags, Texans, and Titans look like some video game-playing teens designed the uniforms in Mom’s basement. The Dolphins, while not horrible, look better in the classics. I just threw up in my mouth wondering why they’d wear the ugly set they’re currently using when twice a year they wear the classics and look awesome!
There are a number of teams that need to update their looks (not including ones that have always been terrible- Titans, Falcons, etc.)
I’d add the Warriors to your list. Much like the Mavs, their wishbone collar is dated and the yellow side stripes don’t look right on the white unis. Why don’t they have a gold uni? Their best set was when they wore gold at home (60s-80s)
I’d also add the Blue Jackets and Capitals to this list. Personally not a fan of “vertical” stripes on hockey jerseys, but with fans clamoring for them to bring back the black and blue unis, it seems I’m not alone in not really caring for the Caps look.
As for the teams shown above, I totally agree on the Angels- their “Disney” look was probably the most fitting set they’ve ever had. Bring back the navy/sky/gold! I’m with you on the Rays as well. The original “rainbow” set is nostaglic, but not particularly good. It’s just a lot more interesting than their current set. The early 2000s look was their best. Plus, with both teams, I’m a sucker for a vest.
The Thunder are an interesting one because I like their color scheme, but agree 100% on the placeholder look. Interestingly, I said on social media that their logo looked like a create-a-team logo from NBA Live 2000 and Thunder fans got mad and said it’s iconic. Take that as you will, but I think they should lean into a more Bison-centric brand. It fits the plains region well, and it’s already tested and proven to work (Marshall Thundering Herd). [Although, that may cause trademark issues and may be why they’ve avoided it.] Regardless, almost anything is better than what they have now.
Angels- Hard disagree. Since their PCL days the Angels have been a Red/(navy) blue team. With Dodgers staked to Blue adding more blue doesn’t make sense. Update the look but the color scheme is classic.
Mavs- 100% needs an update.
Bruins- Agree
Rays- Their second look is higly underrated but embracing cool 90s wouldn’t be a bad thing. While their CC is panned theres pieces of something good than can be used.
Thunder- probably needs an update but to what. They’ve played witha number of city edition looks but nothing’s stuck. I like Vertical text look as that could be fun.
None of these would be anywhere near my list. Especially not the Angles; a team in the LA area that’s not the Dodgers needs to stay as far away from any shade of blue as possible, so red is fine. Plus red is the liturgical color for Holy Week and Pentecost, so it’s actually apt for the team nickname, The only thing the Angels need to change is the red-on-red cap logo. Fix that and they’d have a top-10-this-century uniform.
Starting with teams I care about, the Nats and the Caps are both in need of a redo for different reasons. The Nats have, since 2005, slowly tweaked their uniforms into a craptastic mess of elements that vary mostly between terrible and mediocre and that exhibit almost no consistency from uniform element to uniform element nor from home to road to alt. Just an absolute cluster. The Caps are a different story, in part because aesthetic quality is consistently higher in the NHL than in MLB. But the Caps have a poor basic design that is executed quite nicely. They look good! But in a way that’s far better than they should look.
Then the Diamondbacks would top my list, followed closely by the Utah Jazz. And what little we’ve seen of where the Utah Hockey Club is going looks like a significant downgrade from what they’re wearing this season, so their final identity looks likely to start close to the top of my list of teams that need to rebrand, urgently. The NFL is chockablock with teams that I want to see tweak things, but I can’t think of a team that I think needs a back-to-the-drawing-board revamp.
*Angels. Though the LA Angles could be a fine basis for a rebrand. I’ve long thought a team in Anaheim/OC would do well to embrace a coastal fishing identity like the Rockfish, so an Anglers thing could work.
Most of baseball season is played in the Church’s Ordinary Time, so instead of the colors of Holy Week and Pentecost, they could go with the color of Ordinary Time: green.
And don’t tell me the Sacramento A’s own that color. If half of MLB is red and blue, you can have more than one green team. Just go with something other than gold as a secondary color. In fact, just go green and white.
Anything is better than red being the primary color for a team called the Angels. I’d also be good with dark blue and gold. Just because the Dodgers wear blue, it doesn’t mean you have to rule out every shade.
And you forgot another thing they need to fix: the red jersey with the red numbers.
I was on an Angels little league team whose colors were green and yellow back in the late 80’s. We looked pretty good I thought.
My son was on a red-clad Dodgers team, Took a while to get used to, but they looked good as well.
Green, if not paired with gold, could be an excellent choice for the Angels. I’m reminded of my very first youth team, which was called the Mets but we wore bright yellow jerseys. As beautiful as the real-life Mets can be, they’re also always kind of a yellow team to me, and in a league of monotonous red and blue, that would work just fine for them too.
As for the ghosted numbers, ghosting is bad design in all cases. See also Milwaukee’s ball-in-glove cap logo.
The Dodgers and Yankees both wore shades of blue in New York; I think the Angels can get away with the darker blue of their California moniker days, which was their best look.
I think there are many teams that need a few tweaks to make their unis better (Patriots, Commanders, AZ Cardinals) but most in need of a revamp would be the Titans and Falcons. Tennessee needs to get rid of the dark logo (not to mention the flaming thumbtack altogether) on a dark helmet, ditch the side panels, thicken up the numerals and probably add some scarlet as a trim color. I do like that they mix & match the powder, navy and white jerseys & pants. Rumor has it though that they will be getting new duds when they open the new stadium. Fingers crossed.
I would love it if the Falcons would go back to red/red/silver/red. Those 1980s uniforms had just the right amount of black thrown in there. I think they overdo it now with that color and it doesn’t look good in that dome of a home they have.
NHL: Hurricanes should go back to their original design but use the Whalers colorway of green and blue with silver trim. Capitals are a complete mess and it’s a shame that we have to see Ovechkin break a record in those godforsaken uniforms. I much prefer the screaming eagle unis.
I agree with you totally on the Angels and Rays. Angels need to knock it off with the red script on a red jersey, so infuriating to me. I always liked their “Big A” uniforms of the 1970s-80s. I never gave it much thought about them being a red team when they are named the Angels though. Have to be different than the Dodgers I guess. They did wear this logo on their sleeves from 1997-2001 though and I had never noticed it before. link
Look, I love what Todd Radom did with the Angels when he did it. I think the cap logo is great. But the team just made the identity more and more generic over time. Its SOOOOO red. Red words, red numbers, on red jerseys. Angels on both because they don’t want to say Anaheim or Los Angeles. Its time to revamp. The halo A is great, it can be retooled, We can add an L or a C in front. We can bring the wings back. There is just so much potential. I really think another color, either blue or gold, would be so beneficial.
Oklahoma City Thunder definitely need a makeover uniform-wise!
Logo and uniforms are very boring to me-always have been
Arizona Cardinals need a makeover also: pick something simple and build from there; and NO BLACK UNIFORMS, please and thank you!!!
“NO BLACK UNIFORMS” should be applied to almost every team in every sport, with exceptions for the Raiders, Ravens, and Panthers.
Agree with most of this list except (predictably, apparently) the bruins, which i think are sort of timeless. They haven’t futzed enough to make it a problem for me.
My list additions without suggestions for how to improve is:
Seahawks, diamondbacks, marlins, warriors, ravens, Texans, titans, suns, kings, pistons, wizards, blazers, hurricanes, capitols, predators, kraken, golden knights.
Some comments bore, such as “the Rockies could be doing a lot more” are absolutely true, and make me wish that Nike and the leagues would chill. Between the leagues telling teams what they CAN’T do, and Nike telling teams what they HAVE to do (use their crappy templates, submit to certain alt themes and schedules), the unís are the big losers. Teams that want to go nuts should be allowed to do that, and teams that don’t want to fuss around, or may want alternates but ones that make some kind of sense, should be allowed to do that too.
Fear not…everyone will get exactly what they want and more. Much more.
My opinions on a few of these.
Angels: My preference would be to go back to the 90s “Angels in the Outfield” era uniforms, but with changing the CA (the were the California Angels at the time) to LA. This would essentially mean a “modernized,” version of the original Los Angeles Angels uniforms from the early 60s.
Mavericks: This is easy and straightforward. The 90s era uni they currently wear as a throwback, the “early Jason Kidd Era,” just make those the main set again.
Bruins: Now, I am a Bruins fan so I have a particular interest in this and also some insight. Another simple one, go back to the 80s/90s Cam Neely “Meth bear,” era unis. I’ve also heard on Twitter from someone who claims to work for the team that that’s essentially exactly what they’re doing but with the B a bit updated, the same logo they wore for their special one-off Centennial jerseys from this past season. It’s Twitter so it’s extremely possible this person is full of shit but I’ve also heard that rumor from others as well and it seems Uni-Watch has read the same.
Titans. They look like arena football. They can’t move into that new stadium with the mess they wear currently.
With how the angels have been playing, I think they should swap any blue for black and go all in on the fallen angels.
I would LOVE to see the Rays return to their second uniform design and use all 3 of the caps from that era(mono black, mono green(forest green?), and the black crown/green brim). At the time those uniforms came out I thought they were atrocious. About 4-5 years after they dropped them for their current look is when I realized how great they were.
A start would be to get rid of all the CC uniforms and “alternates” and go back to home whites and road greys.
Yes please.
First-time poster here — big fan of UW! Dodgers fan from the UK (I’ve been hooked since spending sleepless nights watching the 2017 World Series whilst on paternity leave) and love that there are fellow uni nerds out there.
I couldn’t agree more re the Angels and Rays. To me, the Angels brand is massive missed opportunity — like their 5 years of not marketing Shohei properly — as nowhere do they lean into their LA identity. None of their jerseys say “Los Angeles” and the red and white is just… meh. Like, so many MLB teams play in red and with a far stronger identity. I’d love to see them be bold and go full LAFC and own gold/black. It’s very LA and far more “angelic” than red.
The Rays’ logo is the Times New Roman of baseball logos. Again, navy/white doesn’t feel very Florida… more Microsoft Word. Obviously, a new brand would (hopefully) mean a better logo, and I’d love to see them go aqua — original and exciting!
My other pet peeve — teams that are named after states rather than cities. The Dallas Rangers, Phoenix Diamondbacks, Denver Rockies etc. is far stronger, IMO. It also makes City Connect unis pretty tricky. Staty Connect?
Speaking of the Rockies… that’s another logo in desperate need of a clean up. I don’t mind their colourways, but the brand could be so much stronger. I also agree with other posts on here about the Mariners missing a trick. They have unique team colours but it’s all so murky. Make it pop!
MLB teams don’t need to reinvent the wheel, either. The best unis/brands tend to keep things simple. See Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers etc. Since no-one asked, here are my top 3 MLB unis:
1. Yankees home (boring, I know)
2. White Sox “Southside” CC
3. Dodgers “Los Angeles” road greys
I respectfully disagree about the Angels, they’ve been primarily red since Ol’ Gene was still singing on TV, you can’t change that tradition. However, a uni update is definitely in order. The Big “A” in Anaheim is iconic and should continue to be utilized as a symbol for the team and uniforms. Maybe have Bobby Grinch moustache night or something to rekindle some of the 1980’s So Cal vibe.
I’m going to select my choices on a real revamp, meaning logo and uniform changes, not just small tweaks.
NBA: Brooklyn Nets. Their logo sucks. Their color scheme sucks. They need to go back to the red/white/blue and incorporate uniforms that harken back to the Dr. J era (with the stars). Those were unique and stood out. I agree with the post about the Mavs. They need to back to royal blue and green. I loved their old logo with the Cowboy hat on the basketball.
NFL: Tennessee Titans. Everything about their presentation sucks. They haven’t gotten it right since they moved to Nashville. I think it was a fellow commenter who said it in a different post recently…just use the Houston Oilers uniforms, but with the Titans logo on the white helmet. Those uniforms are excellent and you simplify it by becoming a sky blue and red team rather than red, white, silver, navy blue, and sky blue. Too many colors on the palette.
MLB: Miami Marlins. I like the Miami Vice colors, but the execution is so bad. Black should be an accent color, not a primary color. The preference is for the Marlins to go back to their teal uniforms since those were unique, stood out, and feel like “Marlins.” Honorary mention to both the Angels and D-Backs. The D-Backs don’t know what color they want to use. They need to either commit to Sedona red or ignore the red and go back to purple/teal. Stop trying to mix both. One or the other. As this post notes, the Anaheim Angels need to go back to their roots as a navy blue and red team and get more interesting with the Angels logo.
NHL: Anaheim Ducks. They did a great job going back to their original logo, but I don’t think their colors work. I liked their 90s colors. It was unique and stood out. No one else in the NHL has those colors. Now they look too much like the Flyers. It’s similar to the Padres of MLB before they went back to brown/yellow. Go with a color scheme that’s instantly recognizable and unique.
I’d go for a much more controversial change for the Bruins, something similar to something from around a century ago. Sideways bear with semicircular Bruins lettering above; with brown and gold sleeve string. No black, just brown.
NEW JERSEY DEVILS. Changed what was becoming an iconic uniform they won three Cups with to basically a practice sweater. I’d like to see a return to the original red and green set, replacing the green with black though.

Bruins had some great uniforms in their 100th season and should have kept them.
Rays should just go back to their Friday devil rays throwbacks full time.
You will see more Devil Rays and City Connect (SkyRay) gear at games these days than their standard look.
I’m fine with the Bruins uniforms, except I agree that they really should have yellow socks with their dark set.
I’m normally of the placename-on-jersey persuasion for baseball roadies, but “Angels” is close enough to “Los Angeles” that I would give that a pass. I would very much prefer “California Angels” to any of their other monikers, however. Since there are two teams for that city, I like that one is blue and the other is red, even if red isn’t typically associated with angels. The halo-A is a great logo.
Tampa’s baseball identity seems cursed from the start, and I don’t really like any version of it. I do like their current color scheme, but I hate that sunburst logo. It just doesn’t look like anything at all to me.
My NHL submissions would be Columbus Blue Jackets and Tampa Bay Lightning. I’ve disliked every CBJ design except for their cannon sweaters. Most seem over-designed, but somehow also generic. Tampa’s blue-and-white sets look way too much like Toronto. More black and silver helps.
For MLB, I’d start with Washington and Philadelphia. Washington is almost pigeon-holed into a generic red-white-blue patriotic scheme, but I think it could be done better. Philadelphia has those red pinstripes which I’ve always disliked (they look pink to me at a distance).
I’d also like to see the Rockies update their designs to include some green trim, and streamline the monogram. But, frankly, uniforms are the least of their problems right now.
Also, I’ll say Vancouver Canucks, who have never had a look that I really liked. Even with the blue/green combination that I love, their logos and uniforms have always seemed to be less than the sum of their parts.
Their logo could be better, but I like the Thunder just as they are.
The Blue Jackets could do with a whole rebrand.
Been noted a million times but feel compelled to make it one million and one: continues to be embarrassing how often Falcons fans (and NFL fans in general) note how dramatically superior their original 1966 look is compared to their current kit.
“Marchand has been traded for one last Cup run.”
Marchand, a pending UFA, and the Bruins could not agree on a new contract. It’s extremely unlikely he intends for this season to be “one last Cup run.”
Angels: any color but royal blue. I am fine with the red they wear right now.
Bruins: switch to brown and gold and leave black to the Pens
Mavs: hat on a ball logo, royal blue and kelly green
Thunder: pick a bison logo, keep light blue, orange and black and add brown
Titans: get rid of your current uniforms now
Falcons: get rid of your current uniforms now
Rays: light blue, yellow and black for the current set. Incorporate both the (Devil) Ray and the Sunray.
Nets: go back to the Dr J/ Buck Williams uniforms and reconnect with your original logo.
I would love to see the Angels do what the NHL Ducks did and embrace the color Orange. Also, revert back to the Anaheim name.
