The NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament is now down to the Final Four teams, and for only the second time since the format went to 64 (or 68) teams, all four regional Number One seeds have advanced.
The Final Four — if you haven’t been paying attention to the tourney — are Auburn, Duke, Florida and Houston. And heading into tomorrow evening’s games, the Auburn Tigers will be the Number One overall seed, so if they win tomorrow against Florida, they’ll wear white uniforms for both games. But first things first.
For tomorrow’s game against Florida, the Tigers will have a slightly different uniform. Earlier this week, the Tigers teased some “new details” for their uniforms which included new gold Under Armour decals in place of blue ones the team normally wears. They even created a hype video showing the change.

Here’s a couple close up looks at the new decal.

You can see the new gold logo in this photo.

Closer look:

Creating special logos for big games isn’t breaking new ground. For years, teams outfitted by Nike would wear a special swoosh logo for teams that reached the CFP Final Four. This year, Nike even changed that normally silver logo to gold.
Taking a page from their Beaverton, Oregon rival, Auburn will sport the gold “UA” logo in tomorrow’s game.
This will be a bit of a last hurrah for Auburn and Under Armour — after partnering with the company back in 2006 — Auburn has announced they will be changing uniform providers this summer, and they’ll be wearing Nike-made uniforms across all sports beginning in July of this year.
Even though the UA (or swoosh or adidas mountain) logo is a maker’s mark, I don’t mind teams getting a special manufacturer’s mark as a “reward” for advancing to the Big Dance. It doesn’t detract from the uniform at all and I’m sure it makes the kids feel good knowing the uniform is “special” and (in theory) created specifically for the upcoming big game(s).
What are your thoughts on teams receiving jerseys/uniforms with a special maker’s mark?
It’s always a little weird when next year’s team wears a patch or uniform tweak to honor last year’s team… players leave, new players join, and nowhere is that more true right now than college basketball. So I think it’s great.
It’s a nice touch. It’s a good move by Nike to just do them for the CFP Final. I assume that Nike will start this trend next year.
This news makes me want to hit a bottle of Maker’s Mark early for the weekend.
I think it can either go two ways depending on the team; players can be motivated by it or it can be an unnecessary distraction. Their coach knows the group and what strings to pull
It’s such a small detail, I doubt the players even care that much about it. Just a little “oh that’s cool” and move on.
Where it’s important is in the resale market. Whether it’s a special patch for a rookie card, or even just reselling the jersey… it being a unique uniform adds prestige to it. $$$
If you hadn’t told me I never would have noticed.
South Carolina women have gold UA logos on their uniforms too!
I find this hilarious as Auburn didn’t win crap.
Leave the gold if they win it. This is celebrating prior to winning it.
