Red Sox, Marlins and White Sox City Connect Jerseys Apparently Leak

Posted in:

Good Thursday morning, Uni Watchers!

In a major development, the City Connect jerseys for the Boston Red Sox, Miami Marlins and Chicago White Sox all appear to have leaked.

I want to caution everyone that I cannot confirm what follows are legitimate, but all signs point to yes. I’ll explain in a bit, but first, let’s take a look at what could very likely be the 2025 CC jerseys for the two Sox and Marlins.

__________

Boston Red Sox

We know a couple things about the Red Sox new City Connect. We know it reportedly will be green. Red Sox CEO and president Sam Kennedy appeared on MassLive’s “Fenway Rundown” podcast recently and basically confirmed that the jersey will be a shade of green and have a “theme with a certain wall in left field,” referring to the Green Monster, according to NESN.

If this jersey is indeed the BoSox’ next City Connect, it certainly jibes with the images seen above. I’ll leave it to you Boston Red Sox fans to add any thoughts but the green color and “RED SOX” font face do seem to line up pretty well with that of the Monstah.

RED SOX is in the same font as “BOSTON” on the wall, and the sleeve patch with the “B” in a circle aligns with the “H” and “E” (hit and error) indicators on the wall as well.

Another clue that this jersey is about the wall: Take a look at the jock tag:

That’s clearly a reference to the lights for the “BALL” “STRIKE” and “OUT” indicators on the Green Monster.

__________

Miami Marlins

If this is legit, then it looks like the Marlins are going all in on the “Miami Vice” theme we’ve seen from a few Miami teams of late, most famously by the Miami Heat in the NBA, and the FIU football and baseball teams.

“MIAMI” across the chest is rendered in aqua, with black and magenta outlines. The black jersey has aqua and magenta “lines” and the left sleeve is shown with the “M” in the same style as the font on the front of the jersey, with modified colors. Sleeve hems would have bright pink stripes.

__________

Chicago White Sox

Of the three leaks, this one gives me the most pause. It’s almost too close to a certain jersey worn by the city’s NBA team — right down to the pinstripes.

Does that mean it won’t turn out to be legit? No, but I’m looking at this one with a lot more scrutiny. If it does pan out, then it’ll be a bright red jersey with black pinstripes and black set-in sleeves. On the left sleeve is a white sock (which does bear more than a passing resemblance to an older White Sox logo), but with what appears to be a “wing” (which is very reminiscent of a certain website’s logo — which itself is derivative of the NYAC winged foot logo). Sleeve cuffs have a thick red stripe with “SOUTHSIDE” written multiple times around the stripe in black.

__________
I stated earlier that I thought these designs might be legit. It turns out they were leaked, along with the Astros and Nationals CCs (prior to their unveilings) and each of those was proven to be correct.

These were the leaks for the Astros and Nationals — and they use the same models as are seen wearing the Red Sox, White Sox and Marlins jerseys above.

Here’s another collage:

As you can see, the same models were photographed wearing the various jerseys.

If you look at the Astros and Nationals leaks above, you can see they’re not complete — there are no front uniform numbers and nothing on the back. Obviously, when the CCs are officially released, they won’t look exactly like the leaks, but should be pretty close.

__________
I also have more updates on the release dates for all this year’s CCs. Eight teams will receive new City Connect uniforms this year: Washington Nationals, Houston Astros, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox.

• • •
WASHINGTON NATIONALS:

As you’re aware the Nationals City Connect has already been unveiled and made its on-field debut on March 29th.

• • •
HOUSTON ASTROS:

The Astros have unveiled their new CCs, and those made their on-field debut on March 31st.

• • •
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS:

The Giants CC has not been officially unveiled, but their CC has apparently been leaked. The uniforms will make their on-field debut on April 8th. Given that date is fast approaching, it’s likely the Giants will be unveiling their new CC very shortly.

• • •
COLORADO ROCKIES:

There have been no leaks of the Rockies new CC The Rockies CC jersey as also leaked. They are scheduled to make their on-field debut on April 18th.

• • •
CHICAGO WHITE SOX:

Apparently these have been leaked (see above). They are scheduled to make their on-field debut on May 2nd.

• • •
MIAMI MARLINS:

Apparently these have been leaked (see above). These are scheduled to make their on-field debut on May 3rd.

• • •
ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS:

While the D-backs CC’s have not leaked, it’s believed the jersey will be purple. Suns Uni Tracker — who has some deep connections to Arizona sports and has correctly identified several Suns jerseys before they were released — believes the jersey could look something like this:

• • •
BOSTON RED SOX:

Apparently these have been leaked (see above). These are scheduled to make their on-field debut on May 16th.

__________
And there you have it. Can I say with 100% certainty the jerseys shown above for the Marlins, Red Sox and White Sox are legit? No. But the Red Sox leak comports with all the reports we’ve received on it so far. As to the Marlins and White Sox? Since they are modeled by the same folks who also modeled the (now confirmed) Nationals and Astros CCs, I would say there’s a greater chance they will turn out to be legit than not.

For the sake of argument — let’s say all three leaked jerseys are in fact those teams’ CC jerseys. What do you think? What kind of storytelling do you foresee? The BoSox is fairly self-evident, with the Green Monster — but do you glean any clues from the Marlins or White Sox?

I eagerly await your discussion!

[My sincere thanks to Susan Freeman for pointing me towards these (likely) jersey leaks.]

Guess the Game from the Scoreboard

Guess The Game…

…From The Scoreboard

Today’s scoreboard comes from “Snidely Whiplash”.

The premise of the game (GTGFTS) is simple: I’ll post a scoreboard and you guys simply identify the game depicted. In the past, I don’t know if I’ve ever completely stumped you (some are easier than others).

Here’s the Scoreboard. In the comments below, try to identify the game (date and location, as well as final score). If anything noteworthy occurred during the game, please add that in (and if you were AT the game, well bonus points for you!):

Please continue sending these in! You’re welcome to send me any scoreboard photos (with answers please), and I’ll keep running them.

Guess the Game from the Uniform

Based on the suggestion of long-time reader/contributor Jimmy Corcoran, we’ve introduced a new “game” on Uni Watch, which is similar to the popular “Guess the Game from the Scoreboard” (GTGFTS), only this one asked readers to identify the game based on the uniforms worn by teams.

Like GTGFTS, readers will be asked to guess the date, location and final score of the game from the clues provided in the photo. Sometimes the game should be somewhat easy to ascertain, while in other instances, it might be quite difficult. There will usually be a visual clue (something odd or unique to one or both of the uniforms) that will make a positive identification of one and only one game possible. Other times, there may be something significant about the game in question, like the last time a particular uniform was ever worn (one of Jimmy’s original suggestions). It’s up to YOU to figure out the game and date.

Today’s GTGFTU comes from Jimmy Corcoran himself.

Good luck and please post your guess/answer in the comments below.

And finally...

…that’s going to do it for the early lede. Once again, big thanks to Susan Freeman for pointing me towards the apparent leaks.

I’ll have a few more articles today, including Chris Weir’s “Collector’s Corner,” so be sure to keep checking back.

Also, ICYMI, Paul is parting with some rare and unique Uni Watch merchandise, as well as several other items that were once offered, so now is your last chance to pick up some gear you may have missed when it was first offered, or to complete several collections. Hurry soon before it’s all gone!

Everyone have a great Thursday, and I’ll catch you back here tomorrow in the morning.

Until then…

Peace,

PH

Saw that this morning as well as on another site as well. Will have a separate post on the Rockies leak shortly.

A lot of the White Sox in-stadium advertising for the 125th Anniversary was in black and red, including a modified Old English script in red on a black background. So I was suspecting red would appear in the new uniform. Waiting to see the cap.

It should be noted that both the Bulls and White Sox are owned by Jerry Reinsdorf. So it’s not really a stretch to think that a crossover like this would happen.

Was coming to make exactly this point. Surprised it hasn’t happened earlier. And the Sox have used red as sort of a secret accent color the last few years (like on batting gloves, things like that), so maybe they were testing the waters…

This isn’t a last few years phenomenon. Ozzie Guillen wore red accents in the 90’s with these same uniforms.

IIRC Ozzie Guillén had a knee brace that couldn’t help but peek out a little bit, and it was red in those spots

Yeah TBF White Sox have had red as an accent color in 30s-60s and then again at points in the 70s and 80s. The Go-go sox wore a red accented variation of their current. So adding red back in isn’t crazy its more ripping off the block bulls font. If they had used the Gothic style “Sox” or Black Sox “Sox” this would be a lot better.

Not to mention the fully red White Sox unis from 1971 to 1975. The 1951-63 red and black (or moonless midnight blue – it was a heartbeat away from black) Sox were a 50s fashion statement. This CC concept has too much red and borrows too much from the Bulls alt.

Its hard to say if it will be a good uniform until we see the cap and pants. I despise the CC program and prefer teams were their current colors. With that said looking at the jersey the White Sox is terrible. I can only imagine it will come with black or lord help, red pants. Not impressed with the Marlins but cap and pants could improve the look (hopefully no black pants). As a 50 year Red Sox fan, I will say I don’t care for the green; but it is a 100% improvement over highlighter yellow with UCLA caps.

Nice scoop Phil. But for god’s sakes, end the city connect crap. I am so sick of this. White home, gray road, and a team color appropriate alternate. This city connect is just utter garbage and the uniforms just get worse and worse.

When you attend a three-game weekend series and the home team wears three completely different uniforms and color schemes (as the Padres do: Friday they wear the godawful CCs, Saturday they’re in the standard home strip, Sunday the break out the obnoxious camo garbage), there’s almost no point in calling it a uniform.

Should I be angry at MLB for this never ending merch dump cash grab or at myself for paying attention to it and being tempted to buy some of it?

This is how I feel. I actually like the Red Sox idea and it looks simple enough to be good.

As a Bulls fan, I’m digging those White Sox tops.

Several, if not all of those leaks are coming from the same X account that’s being shown a lot on the CCSLC. I think it’s fair to credit or link to the account that’s doing the leaking since that’s where everyone is getting the photos from. Apologies if the attribution is in there and I missed it. (no, it’s not my account :) )

The attribution goes to Susan Freeman and it’s right there at the bottom of the article :)

I like the City Connect concept, and some of the uniforms are been fantastic. Definitely not all of them, and some are pretty bad.

But I loved the Marlins’ CC uniforms, so these are big step backward in my eyes. (Astros, Rockies, and the White Sox, too.)

The Red Sox leak is wonderful. Curious to see the caps

I like all of these. I wish Boston’s jersey was a little more green, but I think it serves its purpose pretty well. Miami’s is OK – I think they could have leaned into the Vice theme a little more to differentiate it from their normal uniform set.
Chicago’s jersey looks amazing. I’m surprised it took this long to see a CC uniform that is such a blatant mashup of two of the subject city’s teams. I love it.

Oh hey look it’s what the Marlins black jerseys should’ve looked like all along. Just embrace the South Florida vibe, guys. You’ll be rewarded for it.

Red Sox CC looks promising but hopefully not with green pants and I am very curious about the hat. The other two look like most CC’s : aimed at casual (younger) fans and tourists and very cheap looking. Uncreative, which is even worse. Turning the Green Monster into a jersey is creative, I think.

    Okay, here we go:
The Red Sox design is very (for lack of a better term) clean, and pretty much exactly as expected. It might actually be too simple, and I hope they add a front number. I also wish they put BOSTON on the front instead of RED SOX. I like the touch of gold in the swoosh.
That Marlins sleeve logo is *literally perfect*. We can only hope that it’s on the caps. I’m not the biggest fan of that sublimation pattern, but it does seem to leave room for a front number.
Those Chicago jerseys… yeah those are the Bulls. No doubt whatsoever on the theme. I wanted to see an 80s throwback, and this is certainly not that.
With the Sox (both), I really really hope they go with white pants. The Marlins I would be ok with black-on-black.
GTGFTS: 2 Oct 2014, ALDS game 1, Royals 3 – 2 Angels in 11 innings on a Mike Moustakas home run.
    GTGFTU: 29 Sept 1974, Week 3, Dolphins 28 – 21 SD Chargers

The collar and cuff striping of the Red Sox jersey give a classic Celtics warmup jacket vibe as well which I like. Sure it is obvious to put the Marlins in the Vice colors and the White Sox in a Bulls template. Too obvious and sloppy designs, nothing clever about it. Unlike the Red Sox tag graphic or the font.

Agreed about the Celtics. I’m surprised I got this far down through the comments before anyone mentioned this. It’s basically a Celtics baseball jersey. Might be the main reason they went with ” RED SOX” instead of “BOSTON”.

The wordmark on the Marlins one screams knockoff to me, even if it turns out to be legit. Just reminds me of those knockoffs you used to get around stadiums on game day.

My thoughts actually. What you’re see at Walmart in the 90s, when they didn’t have licensing, so you knew it was a knock-off, but you ALSO knew a lot of kids would be wearing them because it was readily available and cheap.

See, I have to disagree with you on the wordmark. It’s obviously a callback to the old Florida Marlins font, which I loved, so I dig this.

I hate the Yankees, but I respect that they sat this out to preserve their brand. I love alternate jerseys, that’s why I’m here but when it has no connection to the teams identity it’s just bad and in most cases ugly. Unfortunately, NFL will probably be here in a few years and the the NBA is already lost.

They are just running out of ideas. The White Sox South Side was a great city connect uniform. They should have followed the trend and added those as alternates. Now we are just going to be the NBA Bulls? It is city-connect or just try and cross- sell with the other team owned by the ownership?

If they are being true to the Green Monster, why not have BOSTON across the front. The missed an opportunity on the tail, instead of the bulbs for the balls, strikes and outs. It should have been Manny walking out of the Green Monster.

These three look better than many other CC’s out there. The designs seem cleaner and less gimmicky. The White Sox looks especially good.

Since Jerry Reinsdorf owns the White Sox AND the Bulls, I’m pretty sure where the White Sox uni idea came from.

Good one! With the Rays stadium issues, I’m not sure they would turn down a new stadium in Nashville. That would be just fine with me. I live about 2 1/2 hours south of Nashville. Much shorter drive to see my Cubs than Atlanta or St. Louis.

I’m getting the Little League weekend vibe they tried a few years ago. Pretty much was blah and yuck then…they reached that bar so far. So much merch being peddled now…think I will collect patches without the jersey after seeing Brad Bierman’s read.

    My thoughts

Red Sox- I like this, needs a hit of red maybe on the hat. But it’s recognizable, fits with the city and team. This is what CCs should be, Definitely an upgrade over the prior Marathon wear City Connect.

White Sox- On one hand there’s nothing too offensive here, Red has been in the White Sox color scheme for a while and the jersey itself is objectively fine. There are two problems here. The first is obviously this is a Bulls rip off. After the Tigers CC ripping off the Pistons City Edition you would figure Nike would have some shame. The bigger problem in my eyes though is that it looks like something you would buy at TJ Maxx, a cheap fan jersey. It’s not awful, but considering they nailed the prior one this is a major downgrade.

Marlins- This is a typical Nike half baked City Connect. The colors are awesome and really should be used by the Marlins more in their regular jersey. The modified throwback logo is great. The text works well. But Horizontal stripes?! They look awful. If it is was solid black this would be great (and Marlins are a black team so no BFBS). Now we will see on the field this could a Nats case where it’s not noticeable. But man this is what I hate about these CCs in general. There’s 50% of good/great ideas and the 50% just garbage

Rockies- Ok what is with them trying to make the two tone thing work? It’s purple which is good, but a pullover which is bad. I get the sunset at Coors Field vibe, but it feels out of place here. This really feels like it belongs with Southern California/Southwest team not the Rockies. It’s not particularly good and I feel like Nike is probably priming up some terrible Sublimated number deal. It’s not Philly bad, but it’s not good.

As a Red Sox fan, I feel a little underwhelmed by this leak. I like the Green Monster imagery, but the leak feels more like fashion piece than a baseball jersey to me—meaning, I think this will look great worn by fans in the stands at Fenway, but it might not look all that great on the field. For example, if the circled “B” patch on the sleeve ends up being the cap logo too, that would be pretty bland. I’ll wait to see the full set when it’s unveiled, but I had higher hopes.

These are the great, the ok, and the ugly. The Red Sox is so good I hope they have red socks to go with it but wow. Simplicity is king. The Miami uni is ok. It’s a decent design that hinges on the rest of the set. The white Sox need to send this back to the nineties when it definitely existed as a bulls merch dump jersey that was most likely sold at shopping mall “urban” sports stores. They should be embarrassed that this is what they came up with.

For the Red Sox, I’m hoping for numbers to be on rectangular windows! It would be green on green, so not contrast like Pittsburgh Steelers bumblebees or Toronto St. Pat’s Maple Leafs, but that would be a cute touch on a jersey that arguably doesn’t need to exist

The sleeve logo on the marlins jersey is new, it matches the font of Miami on the front rather than their usual one.

white sox have precedent with a winged white sock logo, i wonder if they got the inspiration from the nyac logo bakc then link

hard to miss the merch dump from paul since it’s pinned ABOVE your thoughtful, time consuming piece on the MLB preview. alas.

The Green Monster jerseys look kinda cool.

I’m just laughing at the idea of a Reverse Retro-esque homage to the Bulls’ black pins by the White Sox. As noted above, common ownership makes some sense of it.

I get that the Marlins are paying homage to the “Florida” era with that typeface, but – and I had this same criticism for the Heat – any Vice-colored uni that doesn’t use the Broadway typeface in some capacity is a bit of a letdown for me.

If that’s the new White Sox CC uni it’d be suuuuuuch a huge downgrade from the outgoing one.

I appreciate that the Red Sox are honoring something that actually makes sense – having a Green Monster-themed jersey is much better than the Nationals’ “these squiggly lines that you can really make out from a distance represent the Metro.” That said, it’s a hella boring jersey.

“Miami Vice” was a middling TV show from 40 years ago, unless you’re talking about the movie – in which case it was a fairly forgettable movie from 18 years ago. It puzzles me why teams can’t come up with anything more representative of southern Florida than the fact that there’s a lot of drug and gang crime there.

The White Sox one looks like a discount store knock off basketball jersey that wasn’t legally allowed to put ‘Bulls’ on it.

i hope the red sox hat is a green one with red dangling sox logo. also to reiterate, white sox did not lift anything from UW given they had a winged logo for 10 years

Where does it say (or even intimate) the Sox were “lifting” anything from UW. I simply said it reminds me of the UW winged stirrup — which itself was the NYAC logo reimagined. Then there’s always this one that’s been around for a 127 years. link

And of course the winged foot itself, a symbol representing speed and swiftness, originates in ancient Greek and Roman mythology, specifically associated with the messenger god Hermes (or Mercury) and his winged sandals, the talaria, which are mentioned in literature as early as the 6th century BC.

So if anyone is “lifting” anything from anyone, it’s everyone who followed the ancient Greeks/Romans.

of course. i apologize if i misconstrued but your comment in the original text made it seem to me like they were inspired by the UW logo (reminiscent usually implies the future thing was inspired by a past thing unless i don’t understand that word). of course this has been around for a while, so i thought it weird to make that link

The Red Sox one is the best of this bunch but why oh why must they disrespect the placket?! Couldn’t they have made the font a tad smaller to fit properly? I do like that the jersey is green, nice to see another green jersey in MLB. I like when the Rays tried it 20+ years ago, even if it didn’t turn out well. I’m anxious to see what the cap will look like.

The White Sox one looks like something that was done here by a UW reader when they did the crossover sports unis. And that shoulder patch…Phil are your lawyers chomping at the bit for a lawsuit? ;-)

I’m getting sick of all the South Florida teams going the Miami Vice route. I’m declaring it played out.

The Rockies one looks very embarrassing. I hope it’s a one-and-done.

Actually love the RED SOX green monster inspired jersey but wouldn’t it make sense to say BOSTON across the front like they have on the wall? Seems like this was way too easy for them to miss on.

When a run scores, but the inning is not yet over, the scoreboard operator puts in a yellow-numbered panel. I think they’re using a very tiny amount of yellow amidst all the other white letters and numbers to mimic that.

I really like these jerseys for Boston, the White Sox, and Miami; Colorado not so much. I hope the Red Sox use the scoreboard’s number font for the backs too, with half-width numbers for the double-digit players just like the scoreboard does. I’ve always liked the handwritten quality those numbers have, as opposed to Wrigley Field where they’ve been using established fonts for decades now (Helvetica, then Franklin Gothic; I say go back to the pre-’80s font, please!).

And that low-riding MLB logo on the backs of all these jerseys looks so, so awful. Particularly on Miami’s jersey when you realize that a name and a number will both go below it. With Boston where they don’t have NOBs it’s not as offensive.
