Seattle Seahawks Unveil 50th Season Patch for 2025

The Seattle Seahawks began play in the National Football League way back in 1976 (they joined along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), and as such, the upcoming season will be the team’s 50th. Note it will not be the team’s 50th Anniversary Season (that would be the 2026 season), but the team, in celebration of the club’s 50th season in 2025, have instead launched a year-long 50th season campaign, including a commemorative logo the team will wear on its uniforms for the 2025 season.

“Since 1976, the Seahawks organization has made its mark on the Pacific Northwest and become known around the world for its championship mindset and passionate fan base. Together with the 12s, we look forward to celebrating our 50th season throughout the coming year, and shining a light on those who helped shape our incredible legacy into what it is today,” said Chuck Arnold, President of the Seattle Seahawks.

According to the Seahawks

50th Season Commemorative Logo

The team unveiled a special commemorative 50th season logo that will be featured this season on player uniforms, retail items and more. Featuring a clean outline and bold font, the logo’s color palette combines the current College Navy and Royal Blue from the team’s original logo in 1976, while the 12 feathers at the base represents an homage to the fans – the 12s.

Here’s how the patch will look on the Seahawks home navy jersey:

And here is a closeup:

There was a surprising amount of planning that went into the 50th Season logo, as evidenced by this storytelling:

__________
The Seahawks have used the XX Season (versus Anniversary Season) protocol previously, so the team celebrating its 50th year is absolutely on brand.

In 1985, The Seahawks celebrated their 10th season with patches on their left hip, featuring the Seahawks logo streaking through the number 10.

And in 2000,the Seahawks wore a 25th season patch. That patch was worn on the jerseys.

__________
And here are some additional components of the 50th season campaign, according to the Seahawks (some of which is possibly uni-related):

  • The team will unveil a “Top 50 Players” list later this year.
  • A special edition 50th season coffee table book, featuring unique images and stories from throughout the team’s history, will be available later this season.
  • The Seahawks will unveil a throwback-inspired redesign of the team’s specialty Washington license plate. This modern nod to Seahawks history will be available in June, with more to come on how 12s can support charitable causes by purchasing the plate.
  • The Seahawks will announce a special 50th season game once the NFL schedule is released later this year.
  • A landing page, Seahawks50.com will keep fans up-to-date on the latest events and activations.

There has been no announcement the Seahawks will be getting a new uniform (either a redesign or alternate) but that doesn’t mean they might not be planning something special for their 50th Season — perhaps the Seahawks will wear a 1976 throwback (there have been some strong indications the Tampa Bay Bucs will be adding a new white Bucco Bruce throwback) — could the Seahawks be planning something similar?

What are your thoughts on the new patch? And do prefer it when teams celebrate their “XX Season” versus waiting a year to celebrate a true “Anniversary”?

For maximum chaos, I’d like to see a Reverse Retro where the inaugural jerseys are color swapped to be mostly lime green with royal blue and white accents.

Its a patch that is understated but also says what it needs to. I’m a bit surprised there isn’t something that represents the Seahawks lone Super Bowl win. And maybe remind everyone this team had the chance to be considered great if they only let Lynch run.

My preference is for the season celebration vs the anniversary celebrations with teams.
The patch looks awful rendered in the current plastic materials, but the design is fine, though a little too lacking in green for my liking. I really wish the team dropped the gray stripe from the logo and replaced it with green. Blue and green is such a great color combo, they need to lean into it more.
The logo explainer is beyond silly, why did any of that require an explanation?

In the NBC show Parks & Recreation, characters Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe) and Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) have a burger cookoff. Chris explains an extremely complex turkey burger with sauces, garnishes, techniques used, etc, all on a gluten-free bun. Ron just says “This is a burger on a bun. Add ketchup if you’d like, I could not care less.” And everybody in the Pawnee office voted for Ron’s burger winning the taste test.
It’s not the Seahawks’ fault that everybody else in the industry has a big old explainer full of over-think and storytelling. I think it’s refreshing to see the equivalent of a Ron Swanson explanation here.

I love Parks and Rec, that is a great episode, especially Ron, Andy, and April’s trip to food and stuff. As well as the fact that even Chris is overwhelmed how much a better a plain normal burger tasted compared to his gourmet though fake burger.
I was just criticizing the fact they have the explainer for why the team logo, team colors, etc are on a team anniversary patch. I think it is bad when you need explainers because design elements aren’t obvious (even when they claim to represent things that are iconic thus should be obvious), this is sort of the opposite, an explainer that acts like obvious things aren’t obvious. I think a Swanson explanation would be “This is our anniversary logo, it is for the 50th season so it has a 50 on it.”

Can we get more Parks and Rec references on the site?
Ron Swanson would 100% only support Classic Uniforms, whereas Leslie Knope is totally City Connect!

maybe the buccs new alternate is for when they visit the seahawks this upcoming season in a throwback game for both as they are both celebrating their 50th season this year.

Very possible! And I would love to see that happen!

I imagine the impending introduction of white Bucs throwbacks mostly stems from the fact that the team just prefers to wear white at home typically. Heat and humidity in Tampa in the early part of the season is absolutely brutal, so anything to avoid dark(er) colors is preferable. Having an additional white uniform will give a little more flexibility.

Also, just FYI — its “Bucs” with one C. Two C’s drives fans up a wall.
