2025 National League East Division Uniform Preview

Welcome to the 2025 MLB Uniform Preview series for the National League East.

This will be part of a much larger 2025 MLB Uniform Preview which will include not only all the uniform news and updates for all 30 teams, but it will also include the multitude of changes which have taken place to uniforms overall. While Nike has addressed a good number of issues raised after last season’s disastrous debut of their new uniform template and material, a few issues won’t be addressed until after the 2025 season concludes. Other big uniform news — like the return to teams wearing their regular uniforms in the All-Star game — will all be included in the full MLB Preview, which will be released on Thursday, MLB’s true Opening Day.

__________

The National League East consists of the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals. All but one team will have uniform changes for 2025.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves’ uniforms were in the news a lot last season, all due to Nike’s new uniform template. First, the new template removed the Braves’ classic belt tunnel piping, though the piping was eventually restored, albeit slightly modified, to the home pants, but the gray road pants (both seen above) remained piping-less. Unfortunately, the 2025 road pants are still without belt tunnel piping.

In addition to their primary white home and road gray uniforms, the Braves have two additional jerseys in their “Core Four” as well as a City Connect uniform. They wear their alternate red jersey for some home games, while their alternate blue jersey was worn sparingly last season on the road (that photo is from the 2024 Wild Card playoff loss).

The Braves will continue to wear their current City Connect uniform in 2025. Last season, it was worn on most home Saturday games.

The Braves will play host to the 2025 All Star Game this July. The team has of course released the 2025 ASG logo. In addition, the team will wear the ASG logo as a patch on the right side of their caps (except for the CC uniform).

Not only that, but it appears the Braves have once again darkened the color of their blue road jersey. In 2024, the shade changed from darker blue to a slightly lighter shade (2023 is below on left, 2024 below on right):

It’s not a giant color shift, but it definitely appears the team has returned to the darker navy worn pre-2024.

You can read more about the ASG cap patch and darker blue jerseys here.

__________

Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins have only one expected uniform addition for 2025.

In addition to their white home and road gray uniforms, the Marlins additionally have a “Miami Blue” alternate jersey as well as a alternate black jersey, which primarily worn at home and on the road respectively.

The only uniform change for the Marlins will be the retirement of their City Connect uniforms, which proved very popular. The Marlins were one of the very first teams to receive a CC when the program began in 2021, and they will be getting a new CC (which as of this writing has yet to be unveiled) for 2025. Here is your last look at the (now retired) original CC:

__________

New York Mets

The Mets have some big uniform changes coming up this season. For their home and road, the Mets will still have their pinstripes and road grays, but the 2025 gray uniform is brand new, and the team is replacing its former royal blue home alternate with a new royal road jersey.

Almost immediately, the new alternate blue jersey design (not only is this jersey a pullover, it has a wishbone collar) was panned because the “stealth” lettering and numbers are very difficult to read at distance. Even up close, legibility will be an issue.

From the center field camera? The jerseys appear almost solid blue

It wouldn’t take much to improve the readability of the script, numbers and NOB from the cheap (or even expensive) seats.

In addition to their new alternate blue jersey, the Mets are also introducing a new road uniform. The new gray jersey will feature different trim and remove the placket piping (aka the “headspoon”), and a new set of matching gray pants will be paired with either the new blue alternate or new gray jersey. Below, you can see the change from 2024 to 2025:

The Mets just released a look at their new road jersey.

The Mets Core Four for 2025 is white, gray (new), blue (new) and they will also continue to wear their black alternate jersey. Last season, the Mets received their first City Connect uniform. The black jerseys were worn most home Friday games, with the City Connects being worn for Saturday home games.

In other news, later this summer, the Mets will retire David Wright’s No. 5, where he will join other Mets immortals having his number hung in the rafters with Casey Stengel, Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza and more. Since purchasing the majority share of the Mets, new owner Steve Cohen has relaxed the protocol for number retirements. Previously, in order to have one’s number retired as a player, said player not only needed to be elected to the MLB Hall of Fame, he also had to be depicted wearing a Mets cap on his plaque. That kept players like Keith Hernandez, Jerry Koosman, Doc Gooden, Willie Mays and Darryl Strawberry — all of whom have had their numbers retired under Cohen — from the honor. It remains to be seen whether the Mets will retire No. 8 (for Gary Carter and/or Yogi Berra), but that may very well be the next Mets number taken out of circulation.

Finally, the Mets have announced they will be wearing a memorial patch for former original Met, Ed Kranepool.

_________

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies have no changes to their 2025 uniform lineup, although their uniforms — particularly the road gray — have received the same updates as the rest of MLB. Because the Phillies wear both their home pinstripes and road grays in Spring Training, the photos above are from 2025 ST games. And because the Phillies wear road gray jerseys for ST, we can see the slight template change the team (and all non-placket piped gray jersey’ed teams) will have this season. Nike has removed the “sun” collar (the small bit of extra fabric around the neckline) for 2025.

If the difference between the two jerseys isn’t readily apparent, you can see it here. Again, this is a league-wide template change for all gray jerseys that do not have placket or collar piping/stripes.

The Phillies Core Four are their home white pinstripes and road grays — seen above — as well as two other alternate uniforms. Their first alternate is an all-cream uniform, as well as a second alternate in powder blue and burgundy, which is essentially a throwback uniform. Generally, the Phillies wear their cream uniforms for home Saturday and Sunday games, while the powder blue throwbacks are worn on home Thursdays.

Last season, the Phillies introduced their first City Connect uniform, which they will continue to wear in 2025.

The Phillies wore their City Connect uniforms for their Friday evening home games in 2024.

To celebrate their mascot’s birthday last season, the Phillies wore their ST caps — which feature an image of The Phanatic — during a regular season game. Whether that was a one-off, or if the team will continue celebrating the Phanatic’s birthday by wearing the alternate cap remains to be seen.

__________

Washington Nationals

Like the New York Mets, the Washington Nationals have several uniform changes and updates for 2025. Since the team is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the District, they will wear special cap patches to be worn for the 2025 season. Here’s a look at that logo:

The Nats’ Core Four consist of their home white and road gray uniforms, seen above from 2024. The road jersey was introduced last season in addition to a new alternate white pullover jersey. That new white pullover was never popular with fans or players, and was worn sparingly (only 11 times). The Nats have announced the white alternate has been retired for 2025. The other two uniforms in their Core Four are their navy blue alternate, and a new alternate red jersey, which will replace the white pullover in the Core Four.

Not only did the Nats unveil a new red alternate jersey for 2025 (seen above), the Nationals have also introduced a new City Connect uniform for 2025. This will replace their original CC uniform which debuted in 2022.

The Nationals CC 2.0, seen above, will make its on field debut for their MLB Season Opener (this Thursday, March 27), and will be worn for Friday and Saturday home games throughout the season.

Unfortunately, it’s not all good uniform news for the Nationals, as they have also announced they expect to have a jersey sleeve advertiser at some point during the 2025 season.

Finally, here’s an infographic created by Susan Freeman showing the NL East uniforms (cap, jersey, pants) by their official colors. The top line shows cap colors, middle is the jersey, and bottom is the pants. If the pants have a stripe, that is included as well. All “4 + 1” (Core Four plus City Connect) are shown.

You can use this explainer to see the specific breakdown of the cap/jersey/pants.

This article will be updated as any additional uniform news for NL East teams occurs.

Say what you want about all of the ad patches, they all suck btw, but the Braves Quickcrete patch is brutally bush-league looking.

    Good preview.

Been thinking about the Mets Blue alts and wondering could a compromise be to do something like what Pirates did with their black Pittsburgh script road unis? IE keep the stealth script but sort of fill in the numbers while keeping the orange/blue outline. That would allow them to keep the effect but make the jerseys more functional. (and buttons… would like buttons instead of pullovers)

I think the Pirates works better because yellow contrasts much better with black than blue does with orange. Personally, I’d like to see them fill the script/number with white or gray and have a solid orange NOB.

It’s been suggested here before that the Mets retire #8 for Carter. I don’t agree with it.

But what in heavens would Yogi Berra have to do with it?

They certainly wouldn’t be retiring it for him (or recognizing him for wearing it).

Retiring 8 for Yogi Berra would be even more tenuous than retiring 24 for Mays.

Both earned their lasting fame wearing those numbers for other franchises.

No reason to compound the Casey Stengel mistake.

Yogi got them to Game 7 of the World Series with an 83 win team and coined one of his most memorable phrases with them, so it’s not that much of a reach…

Excellent preview! If I could add one clarification, the Phillies’ “rule” for the 1940s-esque cream uniforms is that they’re worn for home day games— unless those games fall on the powder blue “Throwback Thursday” days or the home opener (which is always the primary home pinstripes, irrespective of time of first pitch). That’s why you see the primary home pinstripes on some weekend days (if the Phillies appeared on Sunday Night Baseball, or if they had a late start on Saturday) and why you see the creams occasionally during the week (if getaway day games happened to be Monday or Wednesday) at link.

Of course, since there are only so many weekday day games (and many of those fall on the Thursdays reserved for the 70s/80s throwbacks), the practical effect is that they’re weekend home uniforms— as you observed.

Was hoping the Mets would bury those BFBS tops. No such luck. The good news: I don’t attend Friday night games, so I’ll never have to see them.

That new Marlins blue jersey has that team suddenly looking close to the way they have always ‘supposed to have looked’ in my head. Let them be a teal team, not an orange team.

Slight correction – the Phillies were their cream uniforms for ALL non-Thursday day games, not just Saturday and Sunday. The only exception is opening day.

It appears the Nats are also retiring their white and blue Capitol Dome block W hat and returning to wearing the classic red Curly W cap with the home whites. “Uniform lineup” post from the Nationals on X shows no trace of the Capitol Dome cap, nice to see the team leaning back into their best look.

I think the Braves might eventually get the piping around the belt loops back on the gray pants. The reason I say that is because during one of the spring training games one of the minor leaguers came in to pitch (Hayden Harris) came into pitch and the pants he was wearing had the piping around the belt loops.

The Phillies home white pinstripe and road gray are among the best in MLB. They should dump the other 3 uniforms as they are trash. The Marlins wore the 1993 throwbacks a couple years ago with the teal helmets and caps and they looked awesome. The should make to their permanent look.

One thing not mentioned for the Braves is that they are supposedly going to be wearing their red brimmed hats with their road grays this year, which I consider to be a huge improvement. I’ve loved the all blue hat since they introduced it back in 2008 with the blue jersey, but I’ve always hated that they wore it with the road grays as well.
