The Los Angeles officially launched their “Gold Collection” over the weekend, confirming the leak of both the jersey and the caps from last week.
While we’re only concerned here at Uni Watch over the gear which will be worn on field, unsurprisingly the Dodgers have also created an entire line of gold-accented merch (hoodies, tees, etc.) designed to celebrate the team’s 2024 World Series victory over the New York Yankees. Much of it is already sold out, so clearly MLB/Nike/Fanatics have tapped into a (pardon the pun) gold mine of retail sales related to special World Series merch.
Here’s what the Dodgers will wear on the field when they receive their WS rings and celebrate the championship are the special 2025 caps and jerseys.
CAP

JERSEY

There may be no more “in demand” player in MLB than Shohei Ohtani right now, with worldwide fans and an international following (particularly in his native Japan), and his retail gear alone will probably outsell the rest of his teammates’. So it’s no surprise Ohtani’s jersey is being offered with both his English NOB as well as in Kanji characters (大谷 翔平). I’d absolutely love it if he took the field wearing the latter jersey, but I’m pretty sure it will be his standard English NOB.
The Dodgers will most likely wear their gold accented jerseys and caps this Friday, at home against the Tigers. It’s entirely possible they will be worn more than once. If you look at their promotional schedule, the team is giving away “gold player jerseys” on June 18th, so it’s likely the special gear will be worn on that date. And July on 21st, fans will receive “World Series Player Rings,” so they may opt to sport the special cap/jersey then as well.
Here are a couple more looks at the jersey, with a closeup of the script “Dodgers” as well as a look at the screened-on jersey patch. You’ll note the patch on the jersey sleeve does not match that on the side of the cap.

I said this last week, the different colored trim on the front for the wordmark and number looks really bad. I understand WHY the wordmark has blue trim, and the number has red, but from a purely aesthetic standpoint, it looks really bad.
You literally will not be able to notice it on TV.
Can barely notice it in the picture.
Yikes, the patch looks super cheap. It is bad when something looks worse than even the plastic patches.
Blue and gold is a nice color combo, so the cap looks solid and isn’t clashing.
Never would have thought about fan merch in Kanji but for this article, but if they produce it for Shohei Ohtani, gotta figure, why not for Yoshinobu Yamamoto also? Heck, Roki Sasaki wasn’t on that team and he can’t have MLB merch until he’s a real union member (just needs one official game, so the store can open up orders at the end of the 5th inning, but never before), but dollar dollar bills and yen yen bills, yo.
Teams have done that with Asian-born players before this, so the Dodgers team store surely will have shirseys for Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Sasaki in addition to this jersey for Ohtani. When Ji-Man Choi was on the Rays, they had shirseys with his name written in Korean, and they did the same for Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (in Kanji, of course) when he was there too.
Sasaki started Game 2 against the Cubs last week, so he’s in.
Also by the way, the “celebrate 2020” 2021 gold caps had a white LA outlined in metallic gold. This version (just metallic gold, no white) is different enough, and pending actually seeing it in action, I predict it’s gonna look great.
If you read either of my leak pieces (linked in first sentence) you’ll see I made that cap observation as well. I was hoping they’d do the cap as just a solid gold “LA” and have no outline. They complied!
I like it. Sleeve patch looks cheap.
That screened on patch is typical of the Manfred reign of error.
I don’t think we can call that sleeve thing a patch – it is nothing more than an iron on form the 70s. But way less cool. BTW, the number of original iron-on 70s tshirts photos on the internet is amazing… and quite glorious. link And the vintage iron-on transfers on ebay… oh my. link Careful – don’t do that search if you need to be productive today. How are there so many 70s iron on transfers still hanging around today?
Cue Macklemore on that first link. $88, for a t-shirt!?
They’re fine. I’ve never quite understood why people make such a big fuss over one-time special uniforms like this. We come off looking a little deranged when we argue about the color of the number outlines or the patch quality. You will see it once and then never, ever again.
The “We won the world title let’s have a gold uniform” is so cliche and old that it’s beyond pointless
That sleeve patch looks way too cheap.
Oof, that sleeve “patch!!” I’ve seen better uniform patches on $20 counterfeit jerseys sold out of some random guys trunk at a swap meet.
