Baltimore Orioles Officially Unveil New Orange Pants

Back in February, I had the scoop that the Baltimore Orioles would be unveiling an all-orange uniform, by adding a set of orange pants as an option for their orange jersey.

Today, the team has officially unveiled the new orange pants.

Here is an additional look:

The team will officially debut the pants (and the full-mono uniform) on April 12, when the Orioles take on the Toronto Blue Jays.

The look will be reminiscent of the 1971-72 seasons (and their 2010 throwback), when the Orioles sported an all-orange look for just a handful of games.

Here are a few views of the original orange uniforms:

Those all orange uniforms were actually sold by Brooks Robinson Sporting Goods, produced by Powers Manufacturing. Bill Henderson has an excellent rundown of those uniforms:

The uniforms were a product of the 1970s, when baseball began really introducing bold and bright colors, made possible by the introduction of polyester in the uniform creation process. The 1971-72 Orioles orange uniforms used traditional uniform construction, with button-front jerseys, and the pants had belt loops.

For one day (on August 13, 2010), the Orioles would wear these same style uniforms as throwbacks in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The players all wore high cuffs, but eschewed the traditional stirrups for solid black hosiery.

Here’s what Bill Henderson had to say about the throwbacks:

The Orioles will have the option to pair their alternate orange jersey with either orange or white pants, and will wear different caps depending on the pants color.

I’d been hoping the Orioles would introduce a mono-orange alternate for some time. In fact, a little over a year and a half ago, working with designer Chris Diamond, we mocked up how an all-orange uniform might look. It’s pretty much what the Orioles will be introducing for 2025, the only difference being a slightly different trim on the jersey and pants.

You can read that article here.

What are your thoughts on the monorange uniforms? Too much or just exactly perfect for a few games a season? And — would you be in favor the the O’s possibly pairing their pants with their black tops or white tops, or should these solely be worn with the orange jerseys?

It’d be a really good jumping off point for a future Astros CC uniform- orange jersey and pants like an astronaut launch suit

For some reason I don’t hate these even though I am a white at home, gray on the road purist. It is a lot of orange, but I am ok with it, would probably prefer it as a road uniform like teams used to do with baby blue. I think it needs to be paired with a black cap, the white front panel cap as shown in the bottom picture doesn’t pair well due to the minimal amount of white in the rest of the uniform.

Not sure who the play is in the bottom right of the lede photo, but for some reason HE looks orange himself, like he has orange/pink face paint on? Maybe just a little too much sun during spring training before the photo shoot?

He looks like a friggin leprechaun. They coulda done him a favor with some makeup or photoshopping or something.

“It’s pretty much what the Orioles will be introducing for 2025, the only difference being a slightly trim on the jersey and pants.”

Just an edit – do you mean a slightly thinner trim for the mockup?

Legend has it, in 1971, Boog Powell didn’t want to come out of the dugout in the orange unis-“I look like a bleepin’ pumpkin”.

If you’re going to have an alternate uniform, you really need to lean into it to have something different. I would have just taken it a bit farther with an Oriole bird head on the upper left chest instead of the Orioles script.

I am curious about Black over Orange as well.

Dare I say, I wonder what White over Orange would look like.

I think this is a very nice uniform.

My only suggestion would be that the black trim stripes on the sleeves and pants should be separated by a white stripe (like on the 1971-72 set) instead of orange.

Really hope we get to see black over orange. Love the colored pants being introduced in MLB. I just hope teams aren’t scared to make a pairing like the black over orange. Let’s get some more contrast in baseball!

THIS is the look the Astros needed to do their original CC’s in. All orange slaps – as garish as it is.

Others I’d like to see copy this trend:

Blue Jays (blue pants paired with white front panel hat)
Guardians (red pants with red jersey, navy/red hat [or just navy hat])
    Mariners (teal pants)
    Athletics (yellow pants baby!!!)
    Rockies (purple pants)

Yup! And I’ve recreated that look with other yellow jerseys they’ve had in MLB The Show. Works great with the modern one.

I think these look great and have historical reference…
Although its easy to say when not a fan of the team! As a Giants fan, it could be easy to join the dots, but it would just feel clowish on them!

I agree with many . . . while I usually blanch at monochromatic uniforms, these somehow work. And they are better than the earlier generation’s version. They do look better on some players than others. Poor Brooks.

I think that if you’re going to do this, black shoes should be mandatory. Bautista is the only one who makes them looks decent in that graphic.

Oh hell yeah! Mono-orange, full powder blues seeing a resurgence? Bring on the bright colors!

My Little League team was the Tigers, and we wore all orange uniforms with black lettering. We were issued stirrups which I’m confident I wore incorrectly. All of this is a roundabout way of saying that I like this look.

O’s fan here, I’m not a fan of these. But moreso because it’s gonna make the us wear the road hats at home. We’ve done it a few times prior to this season, and it’s always weirded me out. I like when uniform element assignments stay in their boxes. Even weirder, the couple times we DIDN’T use our road batting helmets to match the hats, we stuck with the white-front home helmets.

I think the all-orange would look weird with the home hat because the white panel front needs the white pants. If the orange pants were exclusively a road look, I’d be more fine with it.

I usually don’t like the mono look but the bright color with the black trim isn’t a bad look. It’s better than a solid black or navy.

I want to like these, but the specific shade they’re using does these unis no favors. The mockups by Chris Diamond are the perfect shade of orange, but these are a bit too bright, and a bit too red, to set right with me.

The concept is good, but man, I hope they mix and match these more often than they go mono-Tropicana.

Solid black hosiery conflicts strongly with orange lower legs on those wearing full length pants. Full monochrome versus 3/4ths monochrome. The socks from the Chris Diamond concept mockups would work better, especially the orange ones.

My Orioles need an injection of some fun vibes, their last 2 months were soul-draining. I’m for the all orange look.

I kinda want them to go full 70’s A’s / Pirates and mix & match all the color jerseys and pants. Bring back the City Connect black pants and wear ’em with the orange jerseys. Let’s see black over orange as well, and paint both of those combos with the tri-color home hat. Groovy.

Always happy to seee more color in baseball uniforms. But these should be on the road, not at home!

I do not like it unless they pull up those pants to just under the knee and put some striping on those socks. Then it might work. The pyjama pants style always looks terrible, but especially in bright colors.

I don’t mind the pants themselves. but they DESPERATELY need to be worn with visible contrasting socks/stirrups. The pajama-cut look on any uniform looks bad…on these, it’s especially ridiculous and embarrassing-looking. I don’t know how any self-respecting player looks at themselves in the mirror with the pajamas look, and says, “this is fine”. Yeesh.

I don’t mind the all orange uniforms it’s very much on brand, however I feel they missed out on not having the thick sleeve stripes. With the modern templates sleeve stripes have unfortunately been going or are already extinct.

Wish they would break out the 1976 black cap with the orange panel(instead of the white) for these.
