Athletics Officially Unveil New Gold Jersey for Inaugural Season in Sacramento

The Athletics have officially unveiled their “new” gold alternate jersey, which is mostly identical to the one worn previously (and had been dropped from the A’s jersey rotation six years ago). This confirms the exclusive I had back in January, where I first noted the team would have four jerseys as the team moves into its new ballpark in Sacramento.

The A’s selected Brent Rooker to model the new (old) jersey. That makes perfect sense, given Rooker will be a bobblehead giveaway this season, one that depicted him sporting the gold top:

Here’s the video of Rooker showing off the new jersey:

The jersey being worn by Rooker in that video aligns exactly with the A’s Style Guide:

That jersey is shown without any sleeve patches — which is interesting because the A’s have announced they will wear a “Sacramento” patch for 2025:

The jersey also fails to show the Rickey Henderson memorial patch, which is interesting, because they’re already added the patch to the green jerseys they’re wearing for Spring Training.

That’s mostly likely due to the video being shot before the Athletics announced the Henderson memorial.

The video shows the gold jersey is now on Nike’s chassis, which means narrower plackets (and correspondingly narrower headspoon compared to the pre-2024 template). The sleeve hem striping is also slightly changed from the previous iteration.

Fortunately, the A’s have no uniform ads, so both sleeves are shown blank. Obviously the team will add the Rickey patch for the season. There has, as yet, been no indication the “Sacramento” patch shown above on the A’s white jerseys, will appear on the other A’s jerseys (gray, kelly, gold).

The Sacramento patch was also not present at the Athletics photo day, which is somewhat surprising:

From what I’m hearing, the Athletics intend to wear the kelly green and gold tops “often” in 2025 (both are listed in the style guide as “alternates,” but not specifically home or road alts), so we’ll likely be seeing them not just in the A’s temporary new home ballpark, but also on the road. And that’s fantastic, because if there is any team associated with wearing alternate tops, it’s the A’s, who were one of the first teams to do so, and famously won three World Series in the early 1970s while rocking interchangeable green, gold and (mostly on Sundays) white tops.

The A’s gold jersey has been a fan favorite, and many were disappointed when the A’s discontinued their use six year ago. But with the move to Sacramento, the gold tops will make a triumphant return!

Absolutely gorgeous! Got room for one more alternate. Bring back the black alternate from the early 2000s. I know a lot probably won’t like them. They remind me of those awesome A’s team with Chavez, Tejada, and the 3 all star pitchers.

They should for synergy with the other teams in the city: either the Kings in Sac or the Raiders, Aces, and Knights in Vegas — they all have black in their official colors

As an A’s fan, hard pass. But if they want to retail a black fashion jersey for people who use the word “drip” on social media, right on.

Love them. My favorite in all of MLB. Right up there alongside LSU‘s gold jerseys in the college game. Yes, I love gold.

Give us kelly green on Fridays, yellow on Saturdays, white every other day at home.

That way the players can wear white in the 100+ day games in Sac.

Congratulations to our super sleuth for nailing that jersey based on Rooker’s bobblehead!
Perhaps that design might evolve into a Uni Watch alternate jersey?

Maybe this makes me look hard to please, but I could go for the green and yellow trim down the pants like in the ’70s.

Kinda wish Oakland could hang onto the A’s name and colors and records for a future franchise like the Cleveland Browns did, but I guess KC and Phiily would have some claim to that history as well.

Oakland is not getting an expansion team. I don’t approve of their move either but now that it’s done, the idea that Oakland will one day get a new baseball team is about as realistic as saying Hartford could get a new hockey team.

It’s just one of those places where there’s no real reason now for MLB to go back. Whole Bay Area is San Fran’s now, soon to be all of NorCal in another 3ish years. They’re not going to let a new team back in, and frankly, MLB wouldn’t want to divide up the market again either.

On top of it all, while John Fisher was like, 70% to blame for the move, Oakland wasn’t exactly easy to work with. They lost 3 teams in less than a decade, you have to admit, it was at least a little bit the city’s fault.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Either the plackets look better or I just got used to them. What still looks bad is the jersey fabric; it may be thicker than the paper towel material, but still not sturdy enough for sewing (look at how it puckers around the patches and the sleeve trim).

The A’s uniforms at absolutely gorgeous, and while I already don’t like the move to Sacramento/Las Vegas, I will fly off the handle if they change the color scheme. In fact, beyond changing the words on the grey away jersey to say “Las Vegas,” in the A’s font, they should change absolutely nothing about the uniforms when they move.

agree with Alex C, the A’s unis and color scheme are iconic (much like the raiders). so no need to change a thing.

Who’s gonna see them wear these new uniforms? People around town are complaining about the high ticket prices to see the A’s play!

Being from the Sacramento area, I wish that the Athletics would say they are the Sacramento A’s. Merchandise would be popular, especially if the move is temporary
