Monumental NBA news last night. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin is reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers, who were 1-9 in their “LakeShow” City Edition unis, opted to go against the NBA’s uniform scheduling system and dropped their City Editions for their marquee Madison Square Garden matchup against the New York Knicks. Instead, the Lakers wore their purple Statement Edition unis.
The game was originally supposed to be an all-City Edition matchup, with the Knicks wearing their City Editions as well.

The LakeShow unis are horrendous. I also have very strong opinions on the Lakers’ Statement Edition unis, so this is basically a lateral move. At least the Statement Edition unis don’t have a gradient, and actually has the team’s name on it.
The uniform switch worked in one respect, as the Lakers upset the Knicks 128-112 at MSG.
The Lakers are still scheduled to wear the uniform eight more times this season, and are scheduled to wear it on Thursday against the Golden State Warriors.
Regardless, I’m sure this was the biggest news involving the Lakers to come out last night.

Oh.
Biggest Lakers news of the night!
Gradiants make Doncic look fat so this move was a no-brainer
The lakers are actually doing ok right now. I know they’re 1-9 in this uni and it’s an absolute crap uni anyway, so good riddance to bad rubbish, but this is an odd time to have such a thorough identity crisis, and yes I’m talking about more than the uniform.
Add to the list from a couple years back of “uniforms modeled but never worn”

Can they not just bring back the classic purple uniforms? The ones they have are awful.
Amen. The black in the purple unis is just a bad look overall, as are the “Lake Show” jerseys. Just give us the classic purple jersey. It’s not that difficult. And then Nike can make whatever crazy alternate uni (or whatever they’re calling them now) they please.
So, the Philadelphia 76ers did a good thing this year by retiring these uniforms?
Lakers need to bring back the Kobe era uniforms after Bron finally leaves and embrace the Luka era.
Maybe the arrival of Luka will spur on a uni-redesign (or even just a refresh) for LA. They’ve had this current set since 2018 when Lebron signed, they won a ring wearing them, it’s time for a new look. Hopefully that new look has the gold set as the association/home and the purple set as the icon/away, with the white ones relegated back to alternate status.
Basketball is so boring. Add to that, the terrible uniforms of all teams the last 8 years or so and do people really watch this anymore?
Go away.
