This year’s MLB batting practice caps (not to be confused with the spring training caps or the clubhouse caps) have been released. Last year’s BP caps were excellent, and for whatever reason, MLB has run the caps back again for 2025. We’ll take a look at those in a second, but it also appears that the 2025 Spring Training caps are beginning to pop up via leaks.
However, there appear to be two different styles for what could be the ST caps, so it’s possible that either, neither or both of these will soon be available.
The first style look a lot like the BP caps, but show side patches with “AZ” or “FL” which have been on the sides of BP caps for a few years now. (Here’s a look at last year’s Spring Training caps.)

Then there is a second style, seen in a 3930 cap, that has a decidedly different look, and with a stitched “Spring Training” with the specific training location.

There is another cap — this one in the 5950 template — which is different from the other two styles, but has the same specific city identifier as the KC cap. This is for the Yankees:

I haven’t been able to get confirmation which or whether any of these will be the new ST caps for 2025. We should hopefully be getting some clarification on the new ST caps shortly.

My thanks to “#TheGawd™” on Twitter and reader Chris Bruno for the possible spring training cap news.
Well, at least one of the major leagues seems to be starting to get it right(ish). BP caps are still pretty silly, but at least this is a slight throttling back on the endless deluge of idea-less sludge. The Spring Training caps look like they’ll range from boring to hideous, but hey, baby steps right? Maybe next year they’ll pare down the number of BP caps to 1 per team.
Nah. It’s a money grab, so they won’t.
Yeah, the idea of batting practice hats makes me laugh. How stupid. Do they really sell enough of this junk to make it all worthwhile?
Oh well, I don’t watch batting practice anyway, so who cares?
I will confess to having purchased (a cheap version of) the Brewers one. Funnily enough, I hate powder blue in baseball, especially on caps, and I’m not real fond of the Barrelman mascot (the minor league Brewers had better versions and poses link). But for whatever reason, I like the cap as a casual fashion piece.
I get where you’re coming from. I like Barrel Man with powder blue, since both are emblematic of the ’70s Brewers.
It’s all firsthand limited perspective, but the Phillies hats with the Phanatic on them sold REALLY WELL here in PA, at least to my eyes.
Hats are very collectible. I get a Spring Training hate each season. Don’t think they’re junk at all. If you don’t want it, don’t buy it. Honestly New Era makes good stuff, these hats last too.
My guess is the only reason they’re running them back is due to them not selling well. If the BP caps were flying off the shelves, damn sure they’d have a whole new line.
I’m actually assuming the opposite. It’s all first-hand assumption, but the Phillies BP hats appear to have sold EXTREMELY well where I live. I figure they might be running back the Phanatic BP hats because they sold so well.
That black New York Yankees cap with the Grapefruit League patch on the side looks like a fashion 59Fifty cap and not one to be worn for spring training. It’s hard to tell with the Grapefruit League logo being recolored but the year looks like it is 1999 and matches with the 1999 Grapefruit League logo seen on this media guide.

I don’t expect the Yankees or any team to wear that style during a game, that’s just a fashion cap for fans.
Sounds plausible. But I found that by searching for “2025 spring training” on the Fanatics website — however, on closer inspection it’s listed as “Men’s New York Yankees New Era Black Retro Spring Training 59FIFTY Fitted Hat” — RETRO being the key word, so you’re probably 100% correct.
Also — the Royals cap is now on sale, leading me to believe that won’t be the new ST cap either. And there’s an odd Dodgers ST cap with the label “Men’s Los Angeles Dodgers New Era Royal 2025 Spring Training 9SEVENTY Stretch-Snap Hat”

Since I don’t purchase any of these specialty caps, this is kinda new territory for me. So for any of you cap collectors (or even aficionadoes) out there, thanks for the help and info!
If you look at the product listing at those foam trucker hats, it says they were originally listed in January 2024. So these look like old caps sold for some purpose (who knows?) that they’re trying to offload on sale.
Boston should wear that cap always and forevermore.
Marlins, Mets and Rockies: the pinstriping is awkward. Should have done it like Minnesota.
Pirates: Stargell Stars were earned, not given.
To each their own, but as a Sox fan I always loathe when they wear red hats. Looks cheesy in my opinion, and red crown + navy brim always vibrates too much for my liking. Given that, I’m always disappointed by their options when it comes to ST or BP hats.
Hear hear about the Stargell stars.
I’m not buying that the Yankees would wear that black cap. Ever. That has to be a fashion cap.
Braves, Phillies, A’s, D-backs and Pirates are the best ones.
The look of the waffle board material bothers me. And it looks like it wouldn’t breathe well.
I wear these types of caps pretty much exclusively. They breathe just fine to me.
I prefer the waffle board to the wool.
But what does Waffle Bored think?
IIRC, 2006 was the last season the 5950 gamers were wool—they’ve been polyester for the past 18 years.
That Phillies cap makes me smile…
First, I’m glad to see that the elephant lives on for the A’s.
Second, I’m actually a fan of quite a few of these. The Orioles, Cardinals, Pirates, Marlins and Mariners stick out as really nice.
So am I, but part of me wonders if its merely a product they could not back out of due to contracts and next year the elephant will be totally gone.
I like the aqua color for the Diamondbacks, but don’t understand how they call this “teal”?
Same way they call Mariner Northwest Green “teal” … and unfortunately on this BP cap it actually IS teal.
I really hate the waffle finish. If they were the standard 59-50s, I would be interested in purchasing a number of these.
If you look on the New Era site, they offer many of these in 9Fifty, 9Twenty, etc., all of which are made out of the standard cap material and not waffleboard.
I would love to see the Brewers pair their BP cap with the City Connect unis. We need more Barrelman!
The Mariners hat looks really weird without a compass on top of the S. I don’t hate it, though.
Almost looks naked. Buy this hat and see what’s under the compass rose!
It’s the old 80’s “S” logo done in the current colorway. As a mariners fan, I’m not a fan of it. It’s too simple.
Aren’t those last years hats? I’ve seen all of those before and almost bought a few of them.
Never mind. Today isn’t my day for reading and comprehension. At least I’ll be able to get the couple I thought I lost on.
So they not only used the same hats, they used the same graphic? This link says the graphic is from Feb 20, 2024

I just googled for a graphic rather than trying to create my own. AFAIK, they haven’t created a graphic for the 2025s yet.
ST caps, just as the BP hats are being rerun.
Only difference is the patch. Possible for a running change on a design that a team made but what was shown to retail last year was a straight repeat.
I appreciate that MLB/ New Era are sticking with these, since so many of them are really great. As a Sox fan, while I love the red crown and navy B, I do wish they were to do something a bit more creative with this cap.
The DC cap will make a lot of Nats fans happy.
Ever since they became a thing around 2000, I’ve been a HUGE fan of BP/spring caps. It’s what I wear on the hotter summer days, as it makes a difference in comfortability as compared to the regular game caps. The 2024 BP caps were on a whole fantastic, glad they’re getting another run. I would believe that Dodgers & Astros caps are the real spring cap. It has the same breathable material, and are going back to the mesh backs. Sorry, bald guys in AZ & FL.
My impression was that MLB has used spring training and batting practice caps for two-year cycles. So this would be keeping with standard practice.
I was hoping they would change the Mets home BP cap, because it is awful!
In my opinion…when you put out 3 different caps in a year… you run out of ideas…Club house …batting practice…and Spring Training…hope the other aren’t reruns.
The 25 AZ and FL patches on those two caps would mean that we are getting a rerun design from 2024 this year with trucker style mesh backs. Bald guys get some SPF 2000.
That Giants logo has not been used on field since 1993. Wonder if there will be a jersey with the similar style this season?
Still really dislike that Minnesota M.
I think the Phillies kept their BP hat because they wore it once during the regular season for the Phanatics birthday and probably want to again.
I love the White Sox hats. The actual sox logo is severely under used!
A lot of these are trashy looking however the Pirates and Angels look good because they are retro themed.
Not a lot of really good designs, just like last year as they are more or less the same. I am not a fan of that material. Looks and feels cheap.
Looks like they have a grey option for most teams.
Shortening “spring training caps” to “ST caps” is the equivalent of deciding that it’s hip to refer to Robert Downey, Jr. as “RDJ.”
The 59Fifty Spring Training hats will be the same as last year, just with the updated side patch as shown on the Astros hat in the article.
