When the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles won their respective Conference Championships this past Sunday, I predicted both teams would wear the exact same uniform combinations as they wore two years ago, the last time the two teams met in the Super Bowl.
That matchup featured the Eagles in green/green/white/white vs. the Chiefs in red/white/red/white.

We’re now a bit closer to that matchup coming to fruition.
The Chiefs have announced they’ll be wearing their white jerseys for the game.

Since the Eagles are the designated “home” team, it means they have first choice for jersey selection. Since the Chiefs have unveiled their white jerseys, that means the Eagles will be wearing green jerseys.
As noted, the teams met in the Super Bowl just two years ago. Super Bowl LVII (57) was played in Glendale, Arizona, and the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35.
While the Chiefs haven’t yet unveiled their pants or hosiery combinations, I’m 100% confident they’ll be wearing red pants with white, striped socks. I also fully expect the Eagles to continue wearing the green/green/white/white combination they have sported throughout this year’s playoffs (the Eagles are 3-0 in this look). I can’t see them changing that up, although superstitious types point out the Eagles lost SB 57 in the green/green/white/white combination, so the thought was they might want to switch things up a bit (perhaps wearing black socks instead of white).
The images above also provide us with our first look at this year’s Super Bowl 59 patch on the Chiefs’ jersey.

This year’s SB will be played on Sunday, February 9th, at 6:30 pm (ET) and will be played in the Superdome in New Orleans. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
Color-wise, that Super Bowl patch looks like it was designed to go on a Chiefs’ jersey [enter conspiracy theory here].
It’s going to look much better on the Chiefs’ white jerseys than the Eagles’ greens.
go EAGLES
And take the 76ers with you!
Extremely long shot, but I’m hoping the Eagles wear black pants for a max-contrast matchup. Black or green socks with the white pants would be my preferred realistic option.
Can’t. The NFL doesn’t allow teams to wear alternates or throwbacks in the playoffs.
They can if they get league approval. The rams wore the throwbacks against the patriots when they ruined their previous jersey combos with the white horns on the helmet.
If you want to talk about lucky combos, the Chiefs have never lost to the Eagles going R/W/R/W:
19 Sep 2013-Chiefs 26, Eagles (G/G/W/G) 13
3 Oct 2021-Chiefs 42, Eagles (G/G/W/G) 30
SB LVII – Chiefs 38, Eagles (G/G/W/W) 35
I’m surprised eagles are wearing green. They beat the chiefs on MNF last year wearing white jerseys white pants and thought they’d it this time around since they wore green two years ago
I hope the Eagles wear green socks. It would be a good looking game.
They actually don’t have green (midnight) socks. Their other option is black socks.
Eagles used to wear green socks back when they debuted the midnight green jerseys
Maybe they did for a presser, but according to the GUD — who are immaculate in their research — they have never worn green socks with the midnight green uniforms. Always black

But even if they did have green socks (which they didn’t) back in 1996, they don’t have them now and haven’t ever.
This means the Eagles will have worn their midnight green jerseys in each Super Bowl appearance they’ve made in the 21st century, because the Pats wore white as the “home” team in Super Bowl LII and the Eagles were the designated home team in the other three.
It also means the Eagles have worn their dark jerseys in all 5 of their SB appearances.
Gridiron Uniform Datebase says we’re getting an uniform matchup identical to 2 years ago (minus the Eagles wordmark change)

This also means we get to compare the Eagles in the Jaworski-era Kelly Green jerseys during Super Bowl XV in the Superdome 44 years ago, with the current Eagles Midnight Green jerseys during this Super Bowl in the Superdome.
Chiefs need a couple more patches on the front of their jerseys.
RIGHT?!?
Am I seeing things, or is the backing of the SBLIX patch clear? I know they’ve been plastic-y for a while now instead of embroidered (major downgrade in my opinion) but a clear background? I fully expected a white backdrop so that the colors would “pop” against a red-hued jersey.
Note, I’m looking primarily at the header image and not the KC jerseys with the patches applied. With the jerseys being white the backing obviously looks white too.
The NFL does a lot right, but staying with Roman numerals for the Super Bowl is stupid. I had hoped with their decision to not use it with Super Bowl 50 that they would just continue on after with standard numbers. Would anyone be upset if they stopped using them?
I think they keep the roman numerals because it makes it feel more special and like each Super Bowl is an event unto itself. I also think they didn’t use roman numerals for the 50th because Super Bowl L would have been weird. If they were to drop the numerals I’d prefer they just stop numbering them and go by the year.
However, if we go by the year, do we put the year the Super Bowl happened in, or do we put the season year (which would technically be the prior year)?
Based on the single time they did this, I guess the year of the game, not the year the season started. For Super Bowl XXXIV they included the year 2000 in the logo since it was a big millennium thing.

Ever since SB 30, the Roman Numerals have looked clunky. I know, that’s what Roman Numerals do, but in 29 years, it will be Super Bowl LXXXVIII which, aesthetically, looks ridiculous.
Chiefs “Choice” is probably the wrong word to use. It’s the Eagles choice if they wanted Home or Away. Chiefs don’t get a choice this year
Yeah, I’m not understanding how this is the Chiefs’ choice. Has Philly unveiled their unis already? The KC choice would be “opposite” of what the Eagles are wearing, although I wouldn’t mind seeing a color-on-color Super Bowl.
Choice maybe isn’t the best word choice, as yes, the Eagles have “first choice” as they are the designated home team, so technically they get to choose.
Probably should have just said “KCC unveil SB Jersey” and left it at that.
Obviously the Eagles have chosen green jerseys (which is why KC will be in white), but they haven’t announced it on TwitterX yet.
They had to honor their uniform reveal so sponsored by Fanduel one more time
Too many patches, wordmarks, shields and swooshes demanding attention on both jeresys. A very busy mess.
Personally, although I guess it isn’t an option for them, I’d love to see the Eagles wear their throwback set…
