Long-time reader and submitter Greg Seher (who recently had submitted concepts for the NHL and NCAA) has returned, this time with some concepts and tweaks for the NFL. Similar to other concepters who have redesigned entire leagues, I will feature these over the next two weeks or so, featuring one division per day. Here are the concepts previously posted:
Today we’ll look at Greg’s concepts for the AFC North. Enjoy!

Some uniform basics that are league wide:
1. I’d get rid of the free for all of alternate uniforms. Go with standard dark home and white away uniforms (aside from hot weather white at home exceptions). I’d give each team a dark and white throwback option, and all teams wear throwbacks once a year on Thanksgiving. For a few teams I’d give them fauxback exceptions instead of true throwbacks when needed.
2. The large college style chest wordmarks don’t look right, but I do like the small wordmarks below the collar, these are being added to all the teams.
3. No logos on the back collar of jerseys, that’s a bad trend, if you want to put a maker’s mark somewhere maybe put it there.
AFC North
BALTIMORE RAVENS

My main change is with the pants, just set a standard with black pants all the time, adding in a stripe pattern, and contrasting purple socks. Also change the custom numbers closer to a block font. For throwbacks a white over white similar to their early seasons in Baltimore that featured the trademark disputed original crest logo on the helmet, but using the current crest instead. Meanwhile going with an all black homage to the all whites of the 1970 champion Baltimore Colts.

I have never been a fan of their tiger stripe helmet, it is just too much for me. Plus they have a great tiger head logo they hardly use that would be perfect on the helmet. This uniform design is a modified version of the 2004 set, using orange as their primary color. For their throwback options I went back to their original tiger stripe helmet design.

Jerseys stay the same mostly as their classic design, just going with their rounder number font, and adding in the brown helmet numbers. Bringing back the brown pants on the road but adding in some stripes. Changing up the shade of orange to the older hue. Also I’d make Brownie the Elf their official logo instead of just a helmet. For the throwback, their original uniform from 1946 with white helmets and drop shadow numbers, updated making the stripes uniform throughout, and a brown facemask. The dark alternate using orange pants and standard block font, and slightly different stripe pattern from the 1970s.

A great uniform, just a couple of minor things to fix; the jersey numbers need to go back to a traditional block font, and dump the chest patch logo in favor of a wordmark. The 1962 yellow helmet and white pants look is a good throwback, the year they first added the Steel logo to the helmet.
Thanks, Greg.
Readers? What say you?
Love to see the B as an alternate helmets. That is a great Faux-back.
Thanks, wasn’t sure what would be the best logo of the Ravens to blend in with a fauxback, but the B seemed to work. Unlike the Titans restricting the Texans use of Oilers type designs for a fauxback there, I don’t think the Colts could really block something like this, UCLA stripes are a widely used design, but I am sure someone would ruin the fun for fauxback like this.
Could not agree less with the preference for block numbers. If the team’s always used block, sure, fine. I want something more creative and less stodgy, but I can live with it. Once the team’s left block behind, it has to stay left behind.
I think the block is the best and still looks good. A lot of the popular teams still use them and have never changed like KC, LV, GB and Dal etc. Round numbers don’t look good on football jerseys.
Dark Alt for Bengals and Steelers is something I’d love to see.
Steelers have wotn that before as a throwback in the last 20 years.
For the Bengals – Orange tiger head on an orange helmet is unappealing. Looks like a pumpkin, and looks too similar to the Browns.
The striped helmet is iconic, and most of the fanbase would riot if you changed it. The changes back to a 2004 era uniform make it look too busy. I prefer the design simplicity of the current set.
Yeah, I know the Bengals will never ditch their tiger stripe helmet, but if I was emperor, this is what I’d do.
Curious why you think the orange jersey is too busy, it is very similar to the existing orange jersey. If you mean the white jerseys, I think they need an orange element along with the black tiger stripes. As is now, if you just have a white jersey with black tiger stripes, and white pants with stripes, the orange helmet does not match at all.
Hi. Leave the helmets alone.
The Bengals and and Browns going with those logos as their main would seem like an obvious choice.
Also the Browns putting numbers on their helmets does look pretty decent. They should experiment with that for a game or 2.
Ravens and Bengals are dreadful
Ditches a top 3 helmet in the league for the bengals and one of the most recognizable number fonts in the ravens. It’s a no for me
Ravens desperately need a new helmet logo. Their primary logo looks like either Hekyll or Jekyll. Even the logo on the purple helmet would be an improvement.
I agree. They need the raven meaner looking with sharper lines. looks to “bubbly” to me.
All in all not bad! Don’t care for Ravens dark alternate. Prefer Bengals current helmet but uniforms are good. Browns are better without numbers on helmet and white alternate is hideous. Steelers only need primaries.
Would love to see the Bengals bring back the “Icky Woods Era” throwbacks. I always thought those were their best look. That’s not saying I don’t like their current set though.
Steelers have a great number font now. The block numbers should be left in the past. The chest patch is great too.

These posted here look like rotary phones.
I like that black Baltimore Ravens/Colts mashup fauxback alternate. I also like the shield as helmet logo from the white alternate. I’d like to see the shield logo on all of their helmets, especially the black alt. Their bird logos never looked right to me.
The tiger should be on the sleeve, not on the helmet. Tiger stripe helmet and put white and black outlines of the B on it. The other adjustments of these teams are fine with me.
The beauty of the tiger stripe helmet is that it’s instantly identifiable without a logo. I think that should remain untouched.
This is precisely correct.
No turd pants for the Browns; those things are awful. And leave the helmets alone, please. Otherwise, the rest is great.
No Ratbirds uniform or proposed concept look has ever looked like anything other than schlock. They should just start over from scratch.
Steelers and Bengals look very nice.
Like the white alternate unis for Steelers. Have wanted them to use this as their throwback for several years. Thought they may be considering it when I saw their white practice jerseys with yellow sleeves that past couple years.
100% agree about the word mark across the chest, I’d go further and get rid of all of them regardless of size.
Not feeling these Ravens designs but I do like the throwback whites. The colts fauxback is intriguing but not necessarily needed, 27 something years in existence, two superbowls and many hall of famers. We don’t miss the Colts that much.
BAL: I don’t mind the B logo, not as much as the current helmet logo but it is way better than the shield, which always looked forced. The “Colts tribute” doesn’t really give that vibe, it looks like a very plain mono-black; at least the Ravens make effective use of purple in their uniforms. And the Ravens in block numbers doesn’t work. Not every team needs a bespoke font, which gets clumsy and overwrought, but the Ravens have always had solid fonts.
CIN: the tiger stripe needs to stay… period. Everything else is solid.
CLV: here is an example when the bespoke font is unnecessary; they shaved the serif on the 7 and rounded a couple angles no beef with the concept.
PIT: no issues.
Thank you for fixing the pant striping for the Browns! I never understood the current pattern on the white pants. It makes no sense. Brown/orange/brown should be the pattern.
