Women Driven by Dreams, Mk. II

[Editor’s Note: Today we have an article from our own Jamie Rathjen, who is reporting on the Iron Dames — an all female racing team — and who have created a special livery for next weekend’s “24 Hours of Daytona.” Enjoy! — PH]

The all-woman Iron Dames endurance racing team once again based their livery for a big race, next weekend’s 24 Hours of Daytona, on their “Women Driven By Dreams” tagline.

Unlike their 2024 Le Mans livery, which relied on AI and got some criticism for that from more than just Uni Watch readers, this time fans submitted their own dreams which were reproduced on “sticky notes,” really squares of various shades of pink around the sides and onto the hood and rear of the car. That was combined with a base white color. (The green accents on the mirrors, the sides of the wing, and the number panel are because IMSA uses that color for its GTD class.)

The overall idea is based on something the team did in their merch store at Le Mans last year, where they created a “wall of dreams” on which people actually wrote encouragement or their own dreams on pink sticky notes.

The result is a joy to both look at and try to read when the team has posted up-close pictures, of which there are a few by now. Here are a couple of them:

One person even managed to find the entry they submitted.

The team and their male counterparts Iron Lynx really bring a splash of color to what is an otherwise fairly conventional-looking series (besides AO Racing, who you may have seen in last Friday’s Ticker).

On the roof is a large rocket and the Moon. Last year, the team went to the Kennedy Space Center on another visit to Florida for IMSA’s 12 Hours of Sebring and is hosting a panel event on Friday with officials from NASA and its Artemis program, to whom the roof design is a shout-out. The program is planning to send the first person of color (Victor Glover), woman (Christina Koch), and non-US citizen (Jeremy Hansen, who’s Canadian) beyond low earth orbit.

The four drivers — Sarah Bovy, Rahel Frey, Karen Gaillard, and Michelle Gatting — also got matching firesuits that have the sticky note motif primarily down the sides and a little bit on the back. Also on the back is the other Iron Dames tagline introduced at Le Mans last year, “Every Dream Matters.” You can click to play this video.

The race starts at 1:40 p.m. Saturday and can be seen in the US on some combination of NBC, USA, and Peacock depending on the time of day; Peacock will show the entire thing.

Separately, the Iron Dames rally team, Sarah Rumeau and Julie Amblard, revealed their car’s new livery in another video yesterday. They’re to participate in the World Rally Championship’s WRC2 support series for the first time in a car containing more of the team’s typical pink.
