Oregon Ducks Unveil Rose Bowl Uniforms

The “Granddaddy of them all,” the Rose Bowl, takes place this New Year’s Day — January 1, 2025 — and for the first time ever (but increasingly more likely under the new 12-team playoff) will feature two teams from the B1G: the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes. Oregon will be looking to keep its perfect season intact, while The OSU will be trying to avenge an early-season loss to those same Ducks, who beat the Buckeyes by a single point in Oregon.

The Rose Bowl is one of four Bowl games (one tomorrow night, three on Wednesday) that are part of the new College Football Playoff. Tomorrow night, Penn State will take on Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl (Boise State will wear its traditional Fiesta Bowl combo), followed by three New Year’s Day games: the Peach Bowl (Texas vs. ASU), Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl (Notre Dame vs. Georgia). The four winners of those games move on to the CFP semi-finals, which take place at the Orange Bowl (Jan. 9) and Cotton Bowl (Jan. 10).

For the Rose Bowl, a new “Generation O” uniform combination had been unveiled.

The Ducks Rose Bowl combination will feature chrome helmets, green jerseys, and white pants.

The silver/chrome helmets feature green wings, while the green jerseys have yellow-gold numbers outlined in white, with “The Duck” (one of Oregon’s logos) on the sleeve caps. The collar is also yellow-gold, and the sleeves feature small yellow-gold stripes on the hem. Pants and hosiery are solid white.

The jerseys will also feature the Rose Bowl patch located just below the left shoulder. “B1G” and the makers mark are in silver.

Players will be outfitted with Kobe 6 cleats.

As you know, I have a love/hate relationship with Oregon’s uniforms, and I think this year — as you can see — they’ve worn some outstanding combos, and some good-but-not-great looks. The Rose Bowl look falls into the latter category. I’m extremely pleased the team will be wearing school colors, but I don’t love the silver/green/white combination. I appreciate that the Ducks modus operandi is to never repeat a combo, but I’d also love a bit more yellow-gold — either the helmet or the pants will suffice. The all-white below the waist, particularly with stripeless pants, just doesn’t look good to my eye.

The Buckeyes will also have a special uniform for the Rose Bowl (which I’ll cover in a separate article) — theirs is much more Rose Bowl-oriented approach.

Your thoughts?

The fact that the helmets will reflect the always amazing sunset at the rose bowl game is a smart move, but i generally agree that the chrome dome doesn’t particularly feel cohesive with the rest of the uniform.

Pretty disappointing. The helmet and the jersey are from two entirely different sets, one’s very modern and one is throwback so they don’t go together at all, and then all white below the waist… Easily their worst look of the season on the biggest stage

Well, at least the jersey looks great. I can’t be sure if I’d prefer them to just wear one of their ugly Nike designed jerseys that match the ugly helmet and pants. At least it would be a cohesive, if ugly design. This almost feels like pair the Bucs throwback creamsicle jersey with the modern pewter and red helmet.
Should have just stuck with the yellow or green O helmets.

I was thinking along the same lines, Greg! Perfect description! Just for that, Oregon, to be ornery I might have to wear my Bucs creamsicle jersey for the New Year’s Day games.
I do have a Georgia Bulldogs collared shirt for the Sugar Bowl, but nothing team specific for the other three quarterfinal games. Plain colored shirts, yes, but I am not changing shirts all day.
If Oregon would go with the complement helmet, I wouldn’t even be bothered with the plain white pants. My high school’s colors are green and (officially) white, but we had gold-yellow helmets and trim (and they still do, 40-plus years later).

I like it. Chrome helmets at the Rose Bowl are always great, and we’ve seen Oregon go away from green jerseys in big games a lot in the past.

Who approved this, what a disaster. A 5 year old can pick a better uni combo on the video game.

I’m torn because those green jerseys are probably my favorite from this year’s set, but the stripeless white pants look is never good. The white accessories drag this look down, too.

I will be doing a season ranking of looks when the Ducks are done in late January, but so far this ranks in my lower half. Yellow pants would have been much better. link
