Green Bay Packers Tease “Winter Warning” Uni for Sunday Night Football

Are the Packers planning to wear their all-white “Winter Warning” uniforms a second time this season?

On social media yesterday, a couple cryptic posts seem to indicate the team will again wear their much-maligned alternate, featuring the brand new white helmet the team unveiled during the offseason.

On Instagram, the Packers posted several photos of players in their white alternates, with multiple photos from their earlier game against the Texans, when the team debuted the Winter Warning uniform. The IG post included the caption, “Last time we wore these it was a movie. Comment below to see them again this Sunday in Seattle.”

A separate post on TwitterX used a similar tag line, followed by a request. “RT to see them again this Sunday in Seattle”

Neither post specifically says the team will wear the Winter Warning duds a second time, but it appears the Packers are looking to judge social media reaction. The IG post asks for follower comments “to see them again” while the tweet asks followers to “retweet” (RT) the post “to see them again.”

The venerable Gridiron Uniform Database (GUD) shows the Sunday night tilt between the Seahawks and Packers as completely blank, indicating neither team has declared its sartorial decision for the game.

Additionally, the game against Seattle is a road game for the Packers, and assuming the Seahawks are planning on wearing either their navy (primary) jersey, or perhaps even their neon CR alternate, that means the Packers will be wearing white jerseys in Seattle regardless. The only question is what helmets and pants the team will pair them with.

The Packers wore the all-white uniforms in their October 20th game against the Texans.

Two weeks after that, the Packers wore their all-green throwbacks against the Lions.

Those two weeks were the only two times this season in which the Packers have worn alternates. According to NFL alternate uniform regulations, they still have one more date on which to wear an alternate uniform. That could be on tap for Sunday night.

In the only “Winter Warning” appearance this season, against the Texans, the team won the game with a 45-yard field goal by newly acquired Brandon McManus on the last play. The Instagram and Twitter posts both feature McManus.

Here’s another look at the uniforms in action against the Texans.

While neither the IG nor the Twitter posts are actually announcing the all-whites, the Packers tease indicates a strong possibility. Donning the alts may be their plan all along, and the social media calls “to see them again” are hoping for positive comments and retweets to fit the narrative that fans do indeed want “to see them again.”

As you probably know, I’m definitely not a fan of the “Icy White” look, and the Packers all-white uniforms and new helmet feel like the Packers are just giving into the latest trend. The fact that the striping on their helmets matches neither that on their jerseys nor pants also creates a visual dissonance.

Will the Packers definitely go mono-white Sunday night? We’ll probably find out soon enough, but I’d give it a greater than 50% chance they do. Either that, or they’re doing a supreme troll job.

What are your thoughts? Should the Packers roll the all-white alts out again? Did you like them the first time they wore them?

I have to assume the decision is already made right? Helmets aren’t like jerseys, you can’t just make the call to switch on Sunday morning. Assuming they are wearing them, players will likely be practicing in the white helmets later this week, and the Packers equipment staff needs time to get them ready for that.

“I have to assume the decision is already made right?”

Yes. But I’m not sure the team needed to declare the alternate helmet to the NFL prior to the start of the season. They simply need to know what jerseys Seattle has chosen (and one would assume navy or possibly the neon CR) — so if Seattle has chosen “dark” then the Packers would be required to wear white, unless they work something out with Seattle to allow for color-vs-color.

I looked for practice photos in the teams social media, as well as on link, and so far nothing has been posted. But to answer your second question, yes, we can probably expect them to be wearing the white helmets at practice if they plan on wearing them on Sunday night. I’ll keep an eye on that.

“Last time we wore these it was a movie.” Please tell me they are using that phrase ironically.

Except they can’t wear it. The alternate helmet needs to be worn with a designated alternate uniform. The white jersey/pants is the Packers designated “Color Rush” alternate, so they could be worn with those one. I suppose, in theory, they could also pair the white hat with the green throwback, but that’s not gonna happen.

Good info! I didn’t realize (or didn’t read carefully) that it was for a road game either. In general, though, I’m a fan of the white hat on a color jersey with white pants.

Hmm. White lid with green-yellow-green crest pattern. Regular home green jersey. White pants with green-yellow-green hem pattern. Might work.

Dallas last night, Green Bay Sunday night, Minnesota next Monday night all with the white outs. At least Minnesota does it for a themed game.

GUD is saying the Packers are wearing their throwbacks for the upcoming Monday night game against the Saints on December 23rd. Either that is incorrect, or they won’t be allowed to wear the white helmet against the Seahawks.

    I see that (link)

And if that’s correct, then yes, the team probably won’t be wearing white helmets in Seattle. But the Sunday Night game is still “blank” according to the GUD as well. Unless the Seahawks are going to wear white at home (a very slight possibility), then normally the Packers would be represented on the GUD with a white jersey at the very least.

I’m definitely not saying the Packers will wear white helmets this Sunday — but why go to all that trouble to tease it if they’re definitely going to be wearing their throwbacks (and hence, third alternate option) the following week?

Guess we’ll definitely have to wait and see…

I agree. I am a Green Bay fan (and a hater of this uniform) and found it odd when I saw the post from the Packers yesterday. If I had to guess, I would say they wear the whites this week and wear the normal home uniform against the Saints.

I would very much like it if the helmet stripes matched the jersey and pants. But without that, hard pass. Hopefully if they keep this next season they can modify this.

I think the Seahawks are going to wear the neon alternates, because it’s a primetime game and they haven’t worn them this season.

Ugh. Save this tacky, silly embarrassing stuff for other teams like Arizona or Jacksonville. C’mon, Green Bay, you’re better than this.

Desparate plea for attention, the illness of our times. This is a horrible uniform, especially the helmet, so I am sure they will wear it and be very pleased with it.

If only that white helmet had the yellow elements i.e. center stripe and the “G”. This uniform would look more complete.

Wish they’d add a yellow stripe to the helmet and make the G yellow on the logo so it looks like they inversed the colors. As is, it looks like someone forgot to fill it in.

Who has a line to the GB equipment staff? I will pay actual human money to whoever adds the yellow stripe on the helmet. They could technically add it without breaking any rules, right?

Yes, helmets aren’t covered under the five-year rule so teams can do whatever they like with them.
