Happy Thanksgiving 2024

Posted in:

Good morning, and happy Thanksgiving! As Paul was wont to say every Turkey Day, whether you’re waking up in your own home, a family member’s home, someone else’s home, or a home away from home (like a hotel), I hope you have lots to be thankful for.

It’s hard to believe it’s been six months since Paul retired from his duties as Editor of Uni Watch. In fact, it’s been exactly six months since my first column as Editor. It’s been a great ride so far, and Uni Watch is still as strong as ever, thanks to Paul’s great stewardship and his building of this incredible comm-uni-ty.

As our founder has always done, I want to continue his fine tradition of giving thanks to all the people who continue to make this website possible, including Ticker assistants Anthony Emerson and Jamie Rathjen; Weekend contributors Terry Duroncelet, Jr., Wade Heidt, Rex Henry, Dennis Bolt, Zach Wooldridge, and Derek Buchheit; web developer John Ekdahl; proofreader Jerry Wolper; and, especially, Weekend Editor Jimmer Vilk.

In addition, I want to thank all the contributors who’ve penned stories for this site since I became editor — I don’t want to forget anyone, but I’ll name a few who’ve contributed multiple times: Jimmy Corcoran, Leo Strawn, Jr., Walter Helfer, Chris Diamond, Kary Klismet and Jimmy Parker. There are many others as well, and I couldn’t have done it without you!

Thanks also to Zac Neubauer, who provided the vintage Thanksgiving postcard image Paul used for many years — I was able to find a cleaner (higher resolution) version, which will appear from now on, but Zac was the one responsible for the original image/suggestion.

Most of all, thanks to the Uni Watch comm-uni-ty, who’ve continued to make this a special place for all of us. I’m truly thankful for that. To all the long-time readers, thanks for your continued support (and helping make the transition to Editor a smooth one), and to our newest readers, welcome aboard!

If you’re traveling today, travel safe. If you’re working today, thanks for keeping the world spinning while the rest of us enjoy the holiday. I’ll be spending the afternoon with my mom and Aunt (both of whom have been experiencing some pretty serious health issues recently, mom especially), as well as a friend of theirs who they don’t want spending the holiday alone. My family isn’t large, but we still have a lot for which to be thankful.

I’ll actually have two additional articles today — well, technically just one — but it’s a two-parter that is very seasonally appropriate. I’ll have both parts up shortly, so (hopefully) most of you can enjoy them before your Turkey Day activities really get going. Be sure to check back for those.

Everyone have a wonderful day — no matter how you spend it — and I’ll be back tomorrow with a full set of articles AND a Ticker. Until then…

Peace,

PH

Happy Thanksgiving everybody, but especially Phil, the UW team and all the contributors. Count your blessings, under all circumstances.

Oh yeah that’s right, our neighbours to the south harvest a month later than we do. Enjoy the turkey dinner and sides and don’t forget to go for seconds.
Happy Thanksgiving and cheers to the Christmas season

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! (And special retroactive greetings to our Canadian friends!)
And happy six-month anniversary to our illustrious editor: May you have a wonderful day with your mom, aunt and family friend!
I love Zac’s classic-looking Thanksgiving header; thank you for sharing your talent with this comm-uni-ty!

Happy Thanksgiving to Phil, the Jimmer and all the Uni Watch readers, I appreciate all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving, Phil! Thanks for all of the hard work to keep the comm-uni-ty going!

It’s been a full Thanksgiving Day, but I would be remiss before closing it out (it’s Mountain Time where I am, so I still have about 45 minutes), if I didn’t say I’m thankful for everyone in this comm-uni-ty – most especially Phil! Thanks for stewarding it so phenomenally in your first six months as editor! Happy Thanksgiving all!
