UPDATED! Previewing the NFL’s Week 12 Sunday Uniform Matchups

This Sunday won’t have too many uni-anamolies, and there should also be a good number of very attractive uni matchups, as the NFL enters Week 12 of the 2024 season.

The Indianapolis Colts will be in their “Indiana Nights” alternates, and the Chicago Bears will be sporting their striperiffic 1936 throwbacks, while the Carolina Panthers will be wearing their alternate black helmets and jerseys. Other than that, everyone else will be in their primary home and road uniforms. We’ll be watching to see the pants/hosiery choices for a few teams, all of which could have a significant impact on the overall look of the games.

Will the Commanders go back to burgundy over gold? Will the Patriots keep up their recent run of silver/gray pants? What about the Broncos — they’ve been busting out some great combos of late — will they continue to do so? And finally — will the Panthers pair something besides black pants and socks with their black helmet and jersey? We could end up with one of the best overall uni-matchup weekends of the season!

Let’s take a look at how the uniform matchups for Week 12 are playing out. This post will be updated often once teams who have not announced full combos do so.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders

As of this writing, the Commanders haven’t yet unveiled their choice of pants/hosiery. For most of their home games this season, the Commanders have paired their new gold pants with their burgundy helmets and jerseys, and I expect that’s what we’ll see on Sunday. If that’s indeed the case, this will be a Top 5 looking game for sure.

UPDATE: The Commanders will be in gold pants!

__________

Detroit Lions vs. Indianapolis Colts

Although the Lions won’t reveal their lower half until later, I’m 99% confident they’ll stick with their mono-white look. They’re undefeated in this combo, and have been riding the “hot” (icy white) combo all season. It’s a different look for the Colts, who’ll be wearing their “Indiana Nights” alternate for the first time this season (and only the second time ever).

UPDATE: As I expected, the Lions will be in white pants and socks.

__________

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Carolina Panthers

Although neither team have declared their pants preference, I’m very confident the Chiefs will wear their normal red/white/red/white road combo in this game. The Panthers will be wearing their black alternate helmet and black jersey. Will they go mono-black (as they have done in past seasons), or will they go with a never-before-worn combo?

UPDATE: Panthers will go mono-black.

__________

Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears

We’ve seen this matchup before, back in 2021 (pictured above). For the first — and perhaps only — time this season, the Monsters of the Midway will be wearing their 1936 throwback uniforms. It’ll be a clash of eras in this game, with da Bears throwing way back against the modern uni design of the Vikes.

__________

New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins

With the Dolphins wearing mono-white at home, the only question is whether the Patriots will continue their recent trend of wearing silver-gray pants, or whether they’ll revert to all-blue below the neck. Silver-gray pants would make this a much more aesthetically appealing matchup.

UPDATE: The Patriots will indeed wear silver/blue/silver-gray/blue!

__________

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Giants

Should be a good looking matchup in the Meadowlands with the Bucs in their pewter/white/pewter Super Bowl look, and the Giants home uniform is gorgeous. Of course, most of the Giants will have royal blue socks, though the above photo of Malik Nabers is the exception to the dress code. I know some of you prefer the Giants in gray pants, but I like the white. Top 5 look here for sure.

__________

Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans

Based on how they’ve dressed this season, you’d expect a Titans/Texans game to be contending for the “And One” and not a Top Five look, but that’s the case this weekend. The navy/white/powder/white for the Titans is probably their second-best possible road look (the same three elements with navy socks is better), and the Texans home navy/navy/white/navy is their best possible combo. If you see these two teams in the Five and One, it’ll be on the good side, which is nice for a change.

__________

Denver Broncos vs. Las Vegas Raiders

The Denver Broncos never reveal their pants preference until Saturday or Sunday, so we’ll need to wait to judge how good this game will look. The Broncos of late have been wearing excellent combinations, and this would be a perfect time to wear orange pants and blue socks with the white jerseys. The Raiders will look great in their classic silver and black, so Denver holds the key to the uni-quality of the matchup.

UPDATE: The Broncos will wear blue pants and socks!

__________

Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks

It’s exceedingly rare that the Seahawks wear navy jerseys over gray pants at home (they’re almost always entirely mono-navy), but our eyes will be the beneficiary of their excellent sartorial choice on Sunday. The Cardinals will be in their mono-white (as always), and we’ve actually seen Sunday’s exact combo before: last season the Seahawks wore navy over gray a grand total of two times, and one of those was against Arizona at home. With both teams in their best possible looks, this is definitely a contender for the good side of the Five and One.

__________

San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers

This will quite possibly be the best looking game of the weekend. It’s a guaranteed Top 5 lock, and will be easily in the running for the “Simply. The. Best.” ranking. The last time these two teams matched up wearing these uniforms, it was during the NFL 2021-22 playoffs, when the 49ers eked out a 13-10 win in Lambeau. The Pack will be looking to avenge that loss on Sunday. Regardless of the score, the uniforms are the winners here.

__________

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Rams

As of this writing, the Eagles haven’t yet declared their pants preference, and so far this season, they’ve worn black pants twice and green pants once, when they wear white tops (this will be only the fourth game this season the Eagles are in white jerseys). They’ve yet to wear white jerseys/pants this season, but they did wear that combo the last time the two teams met, which was last season. We’ll need to wait to find out if they’ll repeat that combo for the Sunday Night game.

UPDATE: The Eagles will wear white pants and socks for this game.

__________

And there you have it — a look at all the Sunday uniform matchups for Week 12. Monday Night Football will feature the LA Chargers in their dark navy alternates, against the Ravens in black over mono-white. So after what should be one of the better uni-weekends this season, we’ll close with a mono-white vs. mono-dark (below the neck) finale.

Would like to see Denver in white helmets if their decal was better. Think w/w/b with orange socks could nice as well as w/w/o with blue socks. Hoping they try the blue pants with orange socks Sunday.

Dallas in s/b/w/b could look great against WAS with the yellow pants. A guy can wish for more color matchups.

The only good Tennessee combos imo involve the light blue pants so it ties that ugly light blue armpit thing together. The light blue top looks good with the navy pants as well.

Seattle’s choice on Sunday is def their best look. Anyone else think/notice their numbers are a darker shade of grey on the blue top?

Until the uniform gods allow an Oilers intrasquad matchup, there is no combination of Titans and Texans uniforms that will ever deserve anything other than And One.

Tennessee should just maintain control of the Oilers uniforms they actually wore in Tennessee for a few years before they became the Titans. Give the Texans access to a fuaxback based on Houston’s 1960 AFL championship with the light blue helmet, white jersey with red numbers/light blue trim, and white pants. You can have the Texans swap out the Oilers logo the helmet for either the current Texans logo or their new H logo.

Looks to be a decent week – no standout terrible matchups. Having said that, I wish the Bucs would wear red socks. Black under pewter isn’t terrible, but more contrast would be nice.

So many hideous eyesores. Need to take another look at all those beautiful uniforms in that NFL book below.

I would like to say goodnight to the Indiana Nights alternate forever.

If the Colts want an alternate look, they should sub in the old silver pants from the 1980s. Now we’re talking!

Let’s forget all about that period in their uniform history…though I did like the horseshoe hip numbers…and instead fondly remember that look only when our minds recall Baltimore CFL (Colts)!
Indy needs no alt – but if they had to switch things up they could break out the blue face masks once in a while.

Giants now have one of the worst uniforms in the NFL. This pseudo vintage national pastime look of theirs is stale and pretentious.
League overall has a decent aesthetic now, but the Giants need an overhaul, top to bottom.

I agree the Giants uniforms don’t look good to me anymore. I actually like their century throwbacks, at least there’s a lot of color in them. I wish they wore those on Thanksgiving, but they’re wearing those terrible mono whites.

I actually liked the current Giants uniforms better when they had silver pants with them.

I think this is the perfect time for the Broncos to get a win in their orange or blue pants with the white jerseys. I hope they don’t go.mono white as it’s making the colored pants look like bad luck if they run with white and beat the Raiders. Same with the Lions, I know some Lions fans are tired of the all white look because they’ve had these new uniforms and outside of preseason, nobody’s seen the blue, silver, or black pants paired with white jerseys yet. Lions need a loss in the white pants badly soon.

I hope Washington returns with the gold pants look against the Cowboys.

Great to see the Seahawks run with blue on wolf Grey.

I actually like these Bears uniforms, I’m glad they’ve been running with them since 2019.

Colts need blue pants on the road. Cards need to adopt silver pants.

I can’t stand the Giants uniforms right now. They need an update.

The Lions in all white look like they’re running around in thermal underwear. I don’t know why they find this appealing.

I agree, the Lions look like they’re literally running around in thermal underwear or generic white practice uniforms or high school uniforms. It’s a terrible look for them, it’s strange how they find it appealing. Dan Campbell bought them in from the Saints. They really need a loss in them, so we can see the other pants in them.

Panthers are running with all black, I was looking forward to blue pants with the black tops. One thing that’s promising is that the Patriots have been running heavy with the silver pants this season, I hope this means they’re slowly fading out the ugly mono blue look.

“The Denver Broncos never reveal their pants preference until Saturday or Sunday”…
No need to cause an earthquake or upset Wall Street or crush the hopes of those hoping for orange pants during the week, we’ll just give a 24- hour notice…
