San Antonio Spurs Release 2024-25 City Edition Uniform

The San Antonio Spurs joined the rest of the NBA yesterday in releasing their new 2024-25 City Edition uniform. Some NBA teams have introduced CE uniforms that are mostly different from the previous season, while others have unveiled CE unis that are quite similar to years’ past. The Spurs follow that “two year story arc” with the 2024-25 CEs.

As always, we’ll start with the announcement video.

And here is a shot of the uniform:

Like last year, the new CEs pay tribute to the 1970s and the city’s growth and transformation following the 1968 Hemisfair World Fair, according to the team. Whereas last season’s uniforms were white, the team said they are expanding on the Hemisfair origin storyline by featuring designs from the 1970s era on a “crystal blue” jersey. Helpfully, the team has included some storytelling along with graphics to explain some of the details of the uni.

As you can see, the jersey is a light blue color, featuring green and peach colored stripes, with an arched “SAN ANTONIO” wordmark in black, outlined in white and peach. Beneath the wordmark is a number, also in black with white outline, and a peach block shadow effect.

The pattern down each side of the shorts highlights the Tower of Americas logo, paying tribute to the city’s iconic downtown monument.

The waistband of the shorts contains the Spurs secondary logo.

And here’s a closeup of the shorts’ checkered side panel.

Some additional photos of the uniform and details are below:

Becky Kimbro, Senior Vice President of Brand Engagement at Spurs Sports & Entertainment, stated, “This season’s NBA City Edition uniforms mark the next chapter San Antonio’s coming-of-age as pivotal cultural shifts in the ‘70s moved the city forward. This uniform is as unique as San Antonio itself, with the city’s rich history woven into each element of the design, and our team looks forward to representing this legacy with pride on the court.”

And the team will of course have a special court which will be used when the CEs are worn.

The Spurs City Edition jerseys will debut this Thursday, November 21st when the Spurs take on the Utah Jazz. There are ten “City Nights,” as the team is calling them, that will take place throughout the 2024-25 season. You can view those dates, along with some more information on the uniforms, here.

I’ve never been a fan of the previous City Edition uniform, nor the new one, although I like the light blue color used. To me, the Spurs are a black, silver and white team. When the team does veer from that color scheme, I prefered the CE unis from 2021-22 and 2022-23, when the team leaned more heavily into the “fiesta” colors. And the new CE is basically a recolor of their previous edition, which feels like the designers have run out of fresh ideas.

Your thoughts?

I LOVE the fiesta themed ones. Kinda want them to be their permanent tbh, but I also agree their silver and black is kinda their brand. Especially with no one else in the NBA using that. Maybe have 2 fiesta themed unis and the standard ones with one throwback full time.

It’s so ironic that every other team wants a black or silver alt with dark tough colors. The Spurs want bright fiesta colors instead. Guess the grass is always greener…

Seeing these, I’m now hoping either the Rockets or Astros do a special Astroworld tribute uni in the near future.
