Los Angeles Clippers Reveal 2024-25 City Edition Uniform

The LA Clippers…er, “CLIPS”… unveiled their new City Edition uniform yesterday, and as you can see…they’re blue. Pacific Blue, to be precise.

The team notes the color is specifically tying into the team’s nautical roots. Indeed, if you look at all the team’s uniforms, especially in their earliest iterations (the team began life as the Buffalo Braves, but used a light blue even in that city), from their time in San Diego especially, light blue has been a fairly constant color.

Let’s look at the video…

And here are a few photos of the new uniform:

This is a pretty simple uniform, design-wise. It’s also quite similar to the 2023-24 CE uniform, which was navy blue.

The new look, which the team says symbolizes the story and work of L.A.-based artist Jonas Wood, celebrates the “love of basketball that defines the city, culture and organization.” The “Clips” Wordmark is a custom drawing by Jonas Wood which pays homage to classic Clippers wordmarks and also features artist Jonas Wood’s signature basketball illustration to dot the “i”.

Like many other City Edition uniforms, this one is also on a two-year story arc. “The LA Clippers 2024-25 City Edition uniform is Chapter Two of the story arc, celebrating the love of basketball that defines the city, culture and organization. Designed by renowned LA-based artist Jonas Wood — a lifelong basketball fan and Clippers season ticket holder — the uniform features a refreshed Pacific blue colorway for the base. It blends retro and modern styles, drawing inspiration from the Clippers’ 1980s uniforms and incorporating distinctive basketball elements.”

Here’s a handy-dandy graphic showing the storytelling words surrounding the jersey.

The jersey features two dark stripes surrounding the collar and arm openings, with the nickname “Clips” across the front of the jersey. The uniform number is beneath the wordmark. Aside from that, the uniform has no other design. The back isn’t shown, but it has NOB in a block dark font, along with the number in the same style as on the front.

Shorts are similarly plain, with only a stylized “LA” on the side of the pants leg.

Of course, a new court will be used when the uniforms are worn. It too has the stylized “LA” as the center court logo. It also features custom drawings of Wood’s signature basketballs, as well as his iconic plants in Wood’s hand-drawn style.

__________

I’m usually partial to more simple basketball uniform designs, and this is about as simple as it gets. I also love the “Pacific Blue” (reminds me of the new Process Blue used by the Carolina football team), although this shade looks to be slightly lighter than that worn by the Panthers. Again, I question whether the “two-year story arc” was deliberate or whether the team simply decided to do a color swap (although this new uniform has a different design on the pants). Either way, it’s a nice, but unnecessary, uniform.

Your thoughts?

Nowhere close to the Pacific Blue worn by the NHL Canucks between 1970 and 1978. So who got it right?

I’m doing them in no particular order. I think you’ll like one of the next ones…

No shade here, but can someone explain the “signature basketball illustration”? It’s… a hand-drawn basketball. I googled the phrase with the artist’s name – and the basketballs look to me like any other basketball that any other person could/would draw. But again, I am perhaps/probably missing something.

Feels more 90s-era Cavs than Clippers to me. I guess these are better-looking than those Cavs unis, but these seem particularly uninspired even for a City Edition.

All of these promotional pics and videos feel like they want to sell me an extreme breath freshening gum.

Love the color, hate the clipped “Clippers” wordmark. Not wild about the big “LA” shorts logo. I’d rather see their boat-on-ball logo there.

I actually like their current set, so I think these are a step in the wrong direction.

Nice for a G-League team. I like the row of balls above the jock tag and the shade of blue.
