Philadelphia 76ers Release New 2024-25 City Edition Uniform

The Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers have unveiled their new City Edition (CE) uniforms for 2024-25, joining several teams who have also released their new CE’s today.

All CE uniforms were leaked in September, but we actually got our official confirmation of the Sixers new CE when it was first leaked by Pearl Jam’s bassist during a gig in Philadelphia earlier this year.

So we pretty much knew all about these uniforms a couple months ago. This morning the team released a retro-themed video explaining that the City Edition uniforms are meant to pay homage to the famed Spectrum, where they played until the end of the 1995-96 season.

And in a nice move (at least as far as it pertains to uniform descriptions), the team provided a decent bit of storytelling along with images of the features of the new CEs. We’ll look at those in a second, but first some views of the new CE.

After playing off “City of Brotherly Love” not once but twice for their most recent CE uniforms, the team has basically created a white version of the 2021-22 CE uniform. I liked that one, and I like this new one too (although I question the need for a new uniform every season).

The uniform has a retro “Sixers” wordmark, along with red/white/blue striping around the neck and arm openings. “Sixers” is rendered in red, while a thin blue number is beneath the wordmark.

The sides of the jersey feature four colored squares (red, orange, blue green), and the waist band has two thin red stripes. A “76” logo is on the left side of the shorts. NOB is in a red, serifed font with radial arching, and rear numbers are blue.

The right side of the shorts features the old Spectrum logo with the four colors shown on the side of the jersey repeated twice in the roundel.

As I mentioned above, the team provided some excellent graphics explaining all the elements of the new uniform.

I like them a lot because they look like a normal uniform that the 76ers would wear. Not some contrived “City Edition” uniform. In fact, I would be pissed if I was a 76ers fan because it’s a sweet uniform that is wasted by being a City Edition that will be gone after a few games this season.

Love the love for America’s Showplace being shown by the Sixers (and they still look like the Sixers to boot!)
    I Miss The Spectrum.

I think that the majority of these City Edition uniforms are horrible and make no sense. These, on the other hand, are great! They say Sixers and the Spectrum colors are going to really look good on the court. Finally a CE uni that doesn’t have “The City”, “The Town”, etc. Nice job Sixers. Now if my Bulls would come out with something other than those nonsense uniforms they unveiled for this year, that would be great!

Now, the Sixers need to get one of those LED courts and really flash some colors LOL

Yakov Smirnoff with the neurodivergence switcheroo: “In Philadelphia, SPECTRUM is on YOU!”

I like these more than the ones from 2021, mainly because I assume they’ll be worn more at home. Inadvertently hearkening back to when the Sixers wore white at home at the Spectrum.

On a slightly more sour note, I suppose it’s for the best that they pay homage to the Spectrum now before ditching South Philly for a wildly unpopular arena in Chinatown. Could you imagine what poor taste it would be if they did another Spectrum tribute uni in a few years?

I had that same thought in mind — I love this uniform set (especially the shorts), but highlighting the glory days in South Philly right as they try to move out to Center City leaves a very sour taste.

Great uniform. This also made me finally look up a question I’ve had for a while: has a Sixer ever worn the number 76? The answer is yes and it appears only one other NBA player has sported that number, according to basketball-reference.com — I’ll leave that as an exercise for others to mull over since that’s rarer than I’d’ve thought.

These might be my favorites of all the new C.E.

The only thing I’m not wild about is the big Spectrum logo on the side of the pants. But I can live with that, because everything else is pretty much perfect.

That typeface and number font are great. I think I’d prefer the NOB to be the same typeface as the rest, though, or at least more similar.

Nice uniform. I believe the 4 Spectrum colors refer to the colors of the 4 Philly teams: Eagles (green), Sixers (blue), Flyers (orange) and Phillies (red). But why is the wistband different from the jersey striping?
