Joining a host of others, the Golden State Warriors unveiled their new City Edition uniforms earlier today. Like several other teams, these follow a “two year arc” of storytelling. This will be the second year of the “City Calls,” a campaign rooted in celebrating San Francisco’s iconic landmarks.
This year’s theme will be the Golden Gate Bridge.
Here’s the hype video:

Let’s look at some graphics.
As you can see, the jerseys and shorts are a dark blue, with gold and red stripes around the arm and neck openings. “GOLDEN” is in a thick font in a concave arc, while “STATE” is radially arched below the uniform number, in a convex arc.
The team didn’t provide any graphics showing the jersey back or the shorts, but they did provide a very helpful graphic depicting all the bells and whistles of the new uniforms. Obviously, the highlight of this is the graphic representation of the Golden Gate bridge in the side panel of the jersey and shorts. There’s plenty of storytelling here…
According the the team, the jerseys are designed to draw inspiration from the Golden Gate Bridge. The uniform’s full side panel showcases the bridge’s towers, and the shorts display the suspension cables that help support the structure. Additionally, the typeface is inspired by the historic plaque that honors those who helped construct the bridge.
The team’s previous CE uniform paid “homage” to San Francisco’s famous hills. These “complete” the story arc by featuring the classic design of one of the most classic landmark bridges in the world.
The Warriors also unveiled a new court design specifically for games played in the City Edition uniforms. There is, of course, a bunch of storytelling involved with the special court as well, as seen below.
I realize the Warriors logo is based off the City’s other famous bridge — the Bay Bridge — so it’s a bit odd to see graphics of both bridges depicted on the new court.
One detail that won’t be seen, unless you’re buying a jersey or holding one up close: The words “SAN FRANCISCO” are contained within the side panel depicting the Golden Gate.
The team will debut the uniforms on November 20th against the Atlanta Hawks.
As always, my position on the CE uniforms is that they’re basically a merch dump, but I do kinda like how this one looks. I get what they’re doing with the fonr (the plaque found on the bridge), but I would prefer something slightly different. And while I normally do not like side panels, I actually find this one to be pretty cool. Rather than some random mish-mash of “previous logos” or something equally annoying, this one actually goes to great lengths to graphically represent the towers of the Golden Gate. With a city with several famous landmarks, basing a set of uniforms around them is one way to be able to bring new designs to the team. I also like that it’s also a new design, rather than a color swap from a previous iteration of CE uniform.
Your thoughts?
Pairing yellow with gold feels like a hat on a hat. Other than that, one of the better CE designs, possibly ever.
Ah yes, black with red, yellow, AND gold trim. Definitely looks like the blue and yellow Warriors.
Question: what’s the cost to create these one off or five off floors to match the merch dump unis? I’m guessing it must be very cheap because these sports teams are always so financially poor and barely making it by that they need millions of taxpayer dollars to build their new arenas every 20 years. It certainly couldn’t be that the team owners are lying sacks of crap and expect us to fund all this dumb shit while they reap the profits.
So the cost of the floors must be like what…… like $23.32 or something. With a coupon.

I wonder if the motif is a subtle tie in to the Valkyries?
These automatically go to the top 3 uniforms. Excellent colors, good graphic elements, pleasing to the eye.
I’ll need to see these in action to decide. I’m not sure about those red loops on the shorts. I like the idea of the bridge design, but the parts on the legs kind of bother me. Also not a fan of the writing inside the side panels.
I think I do like the color scheme, and the jersey overall, though.
Not bad but the bridge cables running on the front and the back of the shorts look not so nice. Also: is SF nothing more than a city of two bridges and cable carts? Please come with a more original theme.
Looks like they stole a lot of ideas from the Pacers & Fever.
The Warriors own the patent on making your workmark a big circle.
