UPDATED! Previewing the NFL’s Week 10 Sunday Uniform Matchups

Week 10 will feature the debuts of three new helmets and one never-before-worn uniform combination. So, while the matchups themselves may not be the greatest, at least we’ll be seeing some new looks on the field. One of the teams debuting a new helmet played Thursday night: the Baltimore Ravens, who debuted their new purple helmet with their Color Rush uniforms. The other two new helmets will be worn by the Houston Texans, who will be debuting not only their new red helmets, but also their new “Battle Red” uniforms. The other new helmet to make its 2024 debut will be the Jacksonville Jaguars, who’ll debut new white buckets. And the Carolina Panthers will break out a never before worn combination, pairing their alternate black helmets with blue jerseys and black pants/socks.

It won’t be the greatest set of uniform pairings, for sure, which could lead to some teams who don’t normally make the “Top Five” to make an appearance.

Let’s take a look at how the uniform matchups for Week 10 are playing out. This post will be updated once teams who have not announced full combos do so.

__________
New York Giants vs. Carolina

The early game — part of the NFL’s International Series — will be played in Munich, Germany, and will feature a brand new uniform combination for the Panthers, who are pairing their alternate black helmet with their Process Blue jerseys over black pants and hosiery. I’ll be interested to see how the Panthers new uni combo looks on the field, but I’m not in love with the pants and hosiery being black; a combo of black/blue/black/blue might be more aesthetically pleasing.

__________
Atlanta vs. New Orleans

A week after finally wearing their gold pants, the Saints are back to mono. They’ll sport their preferred gold over black look against NFC South rival Atlanta, who will do their part in the blackout vs. icy white game. This will certainly be in contention for the bad side of the Five and One. Sigh.

__________
Buffalo vs. Indianapolis

As of this writing, the Colts have yet to announce their uniform for this game. Buffalo will be in white/white/blue/white (one of their better road looks). It’s possible the team will break out their “Indiana Nights” alternate, but being their social media avatar hasn’t changed, and the team hasn’t announced the alternate, I would expect them to be in their regular home uniforms. If so, this should be a pretty good looking matchup.

UPDATE: It would appear the Colts will wear their primary home uniforms for this game.

__________
Denver vs. Kansas City

As has been the pattern all season, the Broncos don’t announce their pants choice until Saturday, so this will be updated once they do. The team has paired their white jerseys with all three possible pants colors this season (blue, white, orange), so it’s anyone’s guess as to what they’ll pick against the Chiefs. And while the Chiefs haven’t declared their pants choice either, I expect them to be in their standard red jersey/white pants. I’d actually love to see the Broncos wear blue pants — although, if they do, they’ll also likely pair those with navy hosiery, which is not an especially good look. But pair the blue pants with white socks and we’ll have a really nice matchup!

UPDATE: The Broncos will wear their blue pants and socks for this game.

__________
Minnesota vs. Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be debuting their new white helmets against the Vikings, who will be going purple/white/purple/purple. Fortunately, the Jaguars, who had originally announced only the white helmet/black jersey will be pairing that with white pants. Unfortunately, that will include white socks, so we’ll get two teams sporting the yoga pants look against one another. If only Jax had decided to wear black socks, they could have had a pretty decent combo. I want to see this on the field before I completely trash it, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

__________
New England vs. Chicago

We’re going to get a Top 5 uni pairing in Chicago this Sunday, with the Patriots pairing their silver/gray pants with their white jerseys for only the second time ever (for this uniform iteration). I think most of us would agree the Patriots look much better when they wear silver/gray pants — especially with their blue jerseys, but also the white jerseys. And Chicago will of course be classically attired in their normal midnight blue/white unis. The silver/gray pants not only look better, but it avoids a dark navy jersey vs. dark navy pants clash. Interestingly, since moving to their new uniform template in 2020, the Patriots will have only played the Bears once before Sunday’s game, and they wore their silver/gray pants for that matchup as well. I’m hoping this was a uni-conscious decision.

__________
Pittsburgh vs. Washington

For the first time this season, the Commanders are going mono-burgundy. It’s also the first home game the Commanders aren’t pairing their new gold pants with the burgundy jerseys — I’m not sure if that has to do with the fact that Pittsburgh wears gold pants (which might not be the greatest pairing) or if it’s some “Salute to Service” look (although if that were the case, this would have been a game to wear their mono-black BFBS unis). I’m definitely not a fan of the all-burgundy look; if they decided against gold pants because that’s also what the Steelers wear, they could have gone burgundy/white. It won’t be the worst matchup of the day, but it won’t be great either.

__________
San Francisco vs. Tampa Bay

This will be another Top 5 matchup — and it’s one we’ve seen twice before. In both 2022 and 2023, these teams met in San Francisco and wore the same combos. Sunday’s meeting will be in Tampa Bay, but the Bucs will wear white at home — making this the third consecutive matchup with SF in gold/red/gold vs. TB in pewter/white/pewter.

__________
Tennessee vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers, as of this writing, haven’t declared whether they’ll wear white pants or gold pants — and depending upon which, this matchup might be a Top 5. While the Titans have terrible uniforms, they sometimes go with some decent color combos, and blue/white/white/blue is one of their better looks. If the Chargers go with gold pants/light blue socks, it may just be the best possible look for both teams for this game. But no matter what pants the Chargers do go with, this won’t be in contention for the dreaded “and one.”

UPDATE: The Chargers will wear their gold pants for this game.

__________
New York Jets vs. Arizona

The Jets are another team who have yet to announce their pants preference. Hopefully they will wear green pants and white hosiery, (or at the very least white pants with green socks), otherwise this will be yet another mono-from-the-neck-down game, since Arizona will stick with their standard white/red/red/red home combo. That may be the difference between being the “and one” game or missing that fate.

UPDATE: The Jets have announced they will wear white pants and green hosiery.

__________
Philadelphia vs. Dallas

Although the Eagles have technically not declared what pants they’ll wear, I’m confident they’ll stick with their normal white/white look. But the Cowboys will have a slight uni-modification to their helmets this week. They’ll be wearing their helmets with a red/white/blue stripe — a look that was originally worn during the 1976 bicentennial, but was brought back in 2021 and has been worn for one game per season ever since. They’ve been wearing the red/white/blue striped helmet the weekend before Veterans Day (which is Monday) and will do so again this year.

UPDATE: As expected, the Eagles will wear white pants and socks.

__________
Detroit vs. Houston

Although neither team has technically unveiled their pants/socks for this game, I’m 99% positive we’ll see the Lions in silver over mono-white, a look they’ve worn for every regular season road game, and in which they are undefeated. And this also marks the debut of the Houston Texans “Battle Red” uniforms. The Texans still haven’t confirmed they’ll be in mono-red, but I’m also very confident they will. If both teams wear what I expect, this is the clubhouse leader for the Week 10 “And One” — I’ll still need to see how they match up on the field, but I expect it to be one of the “loudest” uniform matchups of the year, much less the weekend. On the off-chance the Lions break protocol and wear blue pants and the Texans go with white pants, that may save them. But I wouldn’t count on that.

UPDATE: The Texans have basically confirmed full red uniforms for this game.

UPDATE #2 The Lions, as expected, will wear white pants and socks Sunday night.

__________
And there you have it — a look at all the uni matchups for Week 10. The MNF game will feature the Dolphins and Rams. The Dolphins will be in white/white/aqua/aqua. The Rams will wear royal over sol with blue hosiery (their best home look).

I think the Pats navy jersey pairs great with the gray pants, but I’m actually not crazy about the white over gray. It looked very white on white during that london game. I tend to prefer the contrast of the navy set with the white top. Overall though just not a fan of the whole design for the post Brady era.

I agree with you on the navy pants with white jerseys — but… they always wear blue socks with it (or most guys do), which looks awful; if they’d wear white leggings/socks/compression gear, it would look infinitely better.

Also: because the Bears have a darker (midnight) blue helmet/jersey, I think wearing the silver/gray pants against the Bears is better aesthetically, even if the silver/white/silver-gray combo looks more like silver/white/white (as in the London game). I’m not 100% sure they are doing it as it will provide a better looking matchup, but since they’ve worn the silver/gray pants with the navy tops against the Bears (in white/midnight blue) the other time the two teams played, I believe they are doing it for that reason.

    YMMV of course.

Of course, the Pats could do the even more obvious thing and just wear Navy socks with the silver pants and white jersey. That would be the most perfect combo in Sunday’s game against the Bears. The white socks are part of the reason it looks like mono-white from a distance.

If it’s worth anything, the Pats posted this game simulation where they’re wearing silver/white/silver/blue. link

Just curious, what is the comm”uni”ty reaction to the Ravens mono purple last night?
When I started watching, my first thought was that the matte finish was a BAD IDEA, but as I continued watching, I was actually impressed by the overall look.

I didn’t watch the full game, so I didn’t have a chance to “get used to it”. But from what I saw in clips and pictures. The mono purple from the neck down isn’t too bad at all… the helmet was a weak link. If they did a matte black helmet with the all purple it might look better. What would really look nice with the purple threads is a matte gold flake helmet, but that would seriously reduce the use of black.

Would have liked to see it with some gold (not mustard, like that one time) pants, as I really like the purple jersey with gold numbers

I recall the mono burgundy against Pittsburgh ended very poorly in the past. This is a rare case where the whites would make sense for the ‘Manders

If only the Pats would wear navy, red, or some form of striped socks that uniform would be excellent (aside from the missing tv numbers). The white tights below the silver/gray pants is trash.

They look awful because of the white socks. If they wore navy socks with the silver pants it would look more normal. It’s the white socks that trick your eyes from a distance and make it look like they’re wearing all white from the neck-down.

Those gray pants are bad. If the striping was reversed to blue/red/blue it would like much better. It looks mushy. I have the same sentiments on the striping for the white jersey too

According to GUD, the Eagles did so in ‘23…could have been the entire team when Dallas wore their white over silver standard in Philly, and many did when they met again in Dallas with the Cowboys wearing their terrific looking all white to the knees CRs

The devil is in the details: The cuffs of the Jags’ uniform pants have a half-moon of contrasting color on the back. If you know where to look, it breaks up the leotard effect. I call it an NFL Easter Egg, like the anthracite stripe on Philadelphia’s britches.

First week of the season where no team will be wearing throwbacks (Unless you count the Cowboys’ red stripe as a throwback to 1976).

Ey yi yi … good catch. Obviously I meant sol but of course, that’s not what I wrote. Thanks for the correx

Titans could be so killer, and yet they get it all wrong. The dumb underarm thing. The pants, the sword yoke? Light blue, navy, up the red a little bit – the possibilities for a class vintage set are endless. Let me take a run at it. I guarantee the fans will love it. And they will look so bad against arguably the league’s best duds..

That Broncos post is not confirmation they will wear white pants — each week the team has a “game threads” post that clearly states what they will be wearing. The other “hype” posts have a hodgepodge of photos.

Why can the cardinals were white pants so ridiculous. Let’s just never vary from what Nike rolled out for us. Just one please and maybe they can realize they should never go back.
