The Carolina Panthers will look a little different this Sunday morning, when the team takes on the New York Giants at t Allianz Arena, in Munich, Germany. The game is part of the NFL’s International Series for 2024.
The team has announced their new uniform combo:
The team will be sporting a black/Process Blue/black/black look.
The black helmet is an alternate helmet, and was introduced durning the 2022 season, when the NFL dropped the one shell restriction. In 2022 and again last season, the team paired the black helmet with the mono-black uniform. The mono-black was worn just once in 2022 and 2023.
Here’s how the team looked in those games. The two times the team wore the all-black combo, both games were against the Atlanta Falcons.
November 10, 2022
Panthers 25 – Falcons 15
December 17, 2023
Panthers 9 – Falcons 7
Earlier this season, the Panthers wore the black helmet again, but paired it with their Process Blue jerseys and pants, for a different look entirely. And once again, the Panthers broke out the new combination against the Falcons. So for three games in black helmets, the Panthers wore them three times against another black-helmeted team.
October 13, 2024
Falcons 38 – Panthers 20
Sunday’s game will be the first time the Panthers are wearing the alternate black helmet against a team other than the Falcons, and for the first time in Europe.
Earlier today, I had written an article about teams mixing and matching their alternates/CR with their primary uniforms, and I identified eight potential mix/match combos for the Panthers, one of which is almost exactly what they’re wearing Sunday (I put them in black/blue/black, but with blue socks).
I even opined, “The Panthers would probably go an entire season without wearing the same helmet/jersey/pants/socks twice. Let them be the Oregon Ducks of the NFL.”
I should be careful what I wish for.
Your thoughts on the new combo?
Has anyone just created a spreadsheet/ diagram showing all the possibilities and mathematical match ups?
I feel that would help this site.
If you don’t count socks, they have 2 helmets, 3 jerseys, and 4 pants, so 24 possible combinations since the NFL seems to have dropped the rules for alternate helmet use.
black/black/black , black/black/silver, black/black/white, black/black/blue
black/blue/black , black/blue/silver, black/blue/white, black/blue/blue
black/white/black , black/white/silver, black/white/white, black/white/blue
silver/black/black , silver/black/silver, silver/black/white, silver/black/blue
silver/blue/black , silver/blue/silver, silver/blue/white, silver/blue/blue
silver/white/black , silver/white/silver, silver/white/white, silver/white/blue
A quick look on the GUB says they’ve worn 11 of the 12 possible combos with the silver helmet, excluding only silver/black/blue. With the black helmet being new, if you count the option for this week, they’ll have worn 3 of the 12 possible combos: mono black, black/blue/blue and black/blue/black. So 14 out of 24 combos.
I am getting NY/NJ Hitmen vibes from this.
Man. I haven’t thought of that team in forever.
swap blue for black hosiery and it would really pop.
Just a few tweaks can seriously improve this uniform. Black helmet become primary, drop the helmet stripes, and replace the tapered stripes (shoulders and pants) with normal, straight “UCLA” stripes and you’re good
When does the nike contract expire?
Or is this version of Hell we are now in include an ever extending contract like the EA contract?
Mephisto is nothing if not clever in his torments
Definitely an upgrade over mono black and black/blue/blue.
I would prefer them to put the normal logo on the black helmet and for them to use white pants if this were to be a primary, but as much as my favorite Panthers combo is S/B/S/B, this could turn into a pretty solid rebrand.
It is the normal logo on the black helmet?
i love the panthers silver/black/silver. but this seems to be the direction the team is going. And this Combo is gorgeous
Nice to see them mixing it up a bit more.
It would be better if they had a proper logo on the helmet. A black logo on a black helmet is completely ridiculous.
Personally, I love the Panthers’ black helmet. That should be their primary shell imo
Blue socks would be better.
Bingo!
Either remove silver or have it on every piece of equipment. Their striping is so unbalanced and it’s especially noticeable when they mix and match. I still can’t believe they haven’t tried the white jersey with the silver pants. That’d bring in the no silver on the white jersey though
I will always prefer silver helmet and pants with the black or blue jersey. The more I look at this the all black or blue with a silver helmet is much better than this. The black pants would make the blue appear as a highlighter.
As a Panthers fan since their beginning ditch the black helmet. Although they aren’t a very good team, quality teams have a couple looks and leaves it at that. All these combos put attention on the uniform rather than the game.
Wow, two disappointing teams showing up in Munich. And the Panthers not even looking their best. What did the Germans ever do to deserve this?
If the Panthers are ever going to look decent in those blue jerseys, it’s either with this combo, or silver/blue/silver/blue. Maybe even silver/blue/silver/black.
The black lid with the blue jerseys and pants was blue overkill. IMO, black/black/black/black looks great – similar to the Baltimore Ravens’ all-black look – and could be tweaked to look just a little better with a standard helmet decal that utilizes the white components in the logo.
Last week’s combo against the Saints is still one of the Panthers’ best looks. But I suppose in this uniform day and age, that could be considered a classic combo. That was a great use of black and silver with enough blue trim to keep Al Davis then – and Mark Davis now – from more litigation over suing over colors and similar-looking unis.
Back to Sunday: Uni-wise, the Panthers could do a lot worse. And maybe it could be argued/debated – or discussed on UW – that going more black and blue makes it look more Panthers and less Raiders.
