Although the Baltimore Ravens will be wearing their primary black helmets/purple jerseys for this Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, the team will be debuting their new “Purple Rising” helmets next Thursday night.
The team will be pairing those new helmets with their purple Color Rush uniforms in a prime time matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on November 7th.
Since it’s a “short week” for the Ravens, they have begun practicing in their new purple helmets so they’re fully broken in by Thursday’s game.
There aren’t too many alternate helmets I like (non-throwback variety), and most of them feel like they were introduced “because they can.” But I absolutely LOVE the Ravens new purple shell. Let’s take a look at some practice photos.

Obviously, the team won’t be pairing their new purple helmets with their primary purple jerseys, but you can see that those certainly look good with the current shirts.

The satin finish looks fantastic, and allows the gold stripes and facemask to stand out as a secondary color.

I’m also a big fan of the new helmet logo. Normally I prefer helmets of different colors to have the same decals as the primary helmets, but in this case, I like that the Ravens are wearing their secondary logo on the new helmets.
You can also see from the above photo that the new helmet would work well with the team’s white jerseys as well.

I’ll leave you with one last photo. Although the players aren’t wearing their official black pants, I think that the pairing of the purple helmet with both purple and white jerseys and black pants would be a solid look.

Obviously, at least the way the current alternate shell rules in the NFL work, the team wouldn’t be permitted to wear the alternate helmet with a primary jersey (although teams like the Bengals and Panthers have seemingly bucked this rule). So for 2024, we’ll be seeing the new helmets paired with the Color Rush uniform. And that’s fine by me, as I think this is a great look too.

I know seeing the helmets at practice (and in the sun) isn’t quite the same as seeing them on the field, with the CR uniform, under the lights, but from what I see, I like the look even more than I did when it was unveiled. This is one non-throwback helmet I am very excited to see. And don’t get me wrong, I think the Ravens current black helmet is excellent, but I’m pumped for the purple.
How about you? Do you like the new helmets? Do you think they’d work well with the primary uniforms as well? Love to hear your thoughts!
Surprisingly good. I too, would like to see these with the white jersey at some point. Enough gold everywhere to tie it all together. Hopefully the Jags don’t screw up their mess and wear something which compliments the Ravens look.
White jersey/purple pants would look great!
Sorry, meant *Bengals. Got both articles mixed up.
This is one alternate helmet that I like and can understand. It’s not an unnecessary white or black helmet (I know their primary helmet is black) just for the sake of doing what everyone else is doing. Love the purple helmet with the “mustard” facemask. And the bird decal is great too.
Given the gold facemask, these would pair perfectly with the gold/mustard pants.
It’s a good looking helmet for sure…but I don’t like it all that much. Good colors though.
Maybe I’d feel differently if they used the old raven-in-flight logo

…instead of a different – though better head (like they and the Seahawks, Eagles and Cards already employ).
I’ve always thought the B in the primary logo is unnecessary and in fact makes them look minor league, so while I don’t love the alt logo I appreciate the attempt. And kudos to any team not afraid to lean into using more third color trim — yeah, I’m looking at you, Jacksonville.
I like the purple rush!!! I have always liked the facing raven logo and am glad that they are finally using it on their helmets.
When the Ravens started out in 1996, I hoped then that they would have a purple helmet. In fact, when I needed to create a magnetic Ravens helmet for my NFL magnetic standings board set — which I kept updated with new helmet logos since I got them in 1976 and ’77 — I first used a spare Vikings helmet with the Ravens’ original, winged-shield helmet logo. It looked really sharp, but then they had to change the helmet logos because of legal action. I tried matching the then-new B-embossed raven on purple, but it didn’t look good.
So in my worthless opinion, these helmets are long overdue. Looking forward to their on-field unveiling next Thursday!
These look WAY better than their current helmet. Can they switch these out next season or do they have to wait 5 years? Are helmets included in the 5-year rule?
The Rams switched helmets when they returned to LA – but were saddled with their St. Louis neck-down look for a few seasons until the reboot/modernization.
Sorry, second comment, but thanks to my keen-eyed wife:
The purple in the raven head is very different than the helmet purple!
Interesting that nobody else commented about that. Did anyone else notice that?
Good catch. Hmm, it might be different, but it might also simply be (a) lighting and (b) that the decal is a different material than the helmet. The in-person test would be the only way to know for sure.
The purple shade in their decals has been different than their jersey/pants for years. It may have been that way pre-Nike, but became much more obvious since then
I saw someone on X call it a click bait helmet and I can’t unsee it.
Probably a comment made by somebody who is in need of clicks…
I like the helmet and the matching possibilities, even with the black jersey. Not a fan of mono or CR in general but this porple version is a good look for the Ravens.
Combos I would LOVE:
Purple/Color Rush Purple/White
Purple/Purple/White
Purple/Black/Purple
Purple/White/Purple
Purple/White/White
Combos I wouldn’t mind
Purple/Purple/Gold (mustard lol)
Purple/Purple/Black
Combos I would DESPISE
Purple/White/Black
Super excited to see my hometown team get a alternate helmet. They arent rushing to change the uniform so this from me is welcome. I wasnt sure from the press photos but in natural light i like this alot. Makes me get the latest madden so I can play with the possible combinations and see what could be if not for the leagues ‘rigid’ uniform rules
