Baylor Football to Wear Dark Anthracite Uniforms vs. TCU This Saturday Night

Spooky season will continue post-Halloween, when the Baylor Bears will don their “dark anthracite” uniforms against the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs, in a Saturday night prime time matchup.

As you’re likely aware, Baylor unveiled a new set of uniforms for this season, and for the most part they’ve been very well-received. For the first time in a long time, their uniforms added stripes, making a world of difference in their overall appearance.

Shortly thereafter, the team also unveiled a new anthracite alternate, which is so dark as to almost appear black. To refresh your memory, here are some looks at that uniform.

Unlike the new green, gold and white uniforms, the dark anthracite uniforms don’t have any stripes — in fact they’re basically solid dark gray/black, but with a harkback bear paw sublimated onto the sleeve caps.

The Bears debuted the new AFAS uniforms earlier this year vs. Air Force (in a classic “blackout vs. Icy White” matchup), but with the game against TCU two days after Halloween, they’ll reprise the look. Of course, the school has called for a stadium blackout to add to the spooky season atmosphere.

Here’s how those uniforms looked in action against Air Force:

I was surprised the team debuted the AFAS uniforms against AF, but they are definitely getting their money’s worth by wearing them a second time. Will TCU wear their own Icy Whites for this one?

When the Bears debuted the dark anthracite against Air Force, it marked the first time the Bears wore “black” uniforms since November 17, 2018, when they played TCU (BU lost that game). The combo that day featured a black helmet with the “Sailor Bear” logo and the school’s previous shade of gold pants.

Since the university’s redesign in 2019, Baylor had been without a dark gray or black uniform in its arsenal. But the pull of BFBS (or AFAS) proved too strong, so the school brought the dark uniform back with this year’s redesign.

Clearly BFBS is a trend that just won’t die. As noted earlier today, BFBS also affects NFL teams as well. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen what should have been a fad last well over two decades, and its popularity only seems to be increasing.

At least this weekend, with Halloween being only two days prior, the unis are seasonally appropriate.

This is a good look for Baylor, nice clean and simple. Icy white from TCU with the purple would be good too, hope they do this as I would imagine it would be a good looking game. I know most don’t enjoy those looks, but when done right icy white and all black can look really good.

This blackout/ icy white $hit is getting old.
No tradition, no creativity, just more monotard boringness

Bingo. Living chess pieces is what players and fans want to look like. Semi tough posers, dressed up for social media likes.

Darkness under the lights? That doesn’t even make sense. What are they even teaching at these universities?

    Can someone help #11 out?
That number style with no spacing is brutal.
It looks like a partial vertical racing stripe. The ones are so close together it could almost be a large #1 in Blue Jays style split letter.
