Paul here, with a really great story for you. If you collected baseball cards in the 1970s, you’re probably familiar with the bizarre 1976 Topps card shown above, featuring Brewers utility man Kurt Bevacqua winning the Bazooka Bubble-Blowing Contest.
Today on Inconspicuous Consumption, as part of our “Show and Tell” series, I have the story of a reader who got his father to make him a set of homemade/DIY bubble calipers like the ones shown on the card. Nearly 50 years later, he still has them — and even used them earlier this month for a bubble-blowing contest in Botswana (!).
In addition to the reader’s DIY story, I compiled a bunch of info on the original Bazooka contest — and even found out where the original calipers shown on the Bevacqua card ended up!
