Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Unveils New Alternate White Uniform

On Sunday, the Wisconsin Badgers unveiled a new iteration of the “By the Players” alternate uniforms designed by members of the Wisconsin basketball team. This is now the fifth iteration of its unique player-designed look.

As is now the way things are done, the team unveiled the new alternates via a social media video. And as is becoming increasingly common, the video was not accompanied by any still photos. I was able to make some screen shots, so those will have to suffice in lieu of any photos.

Here’s the video:

The uniforms are surprisingly simple (refreshingly so).

The white jersey features black/red striping around the arm opening. “WISCONSIN” is written in a red block font, with a vertical black block shadow. Numbers are in red, also with black block shadow.

Here’s a closeup of the WISCONSIN wordmark. You can also note a pattern to the jersey fabric (which is a bit reminscent of a pattern found on paper towels).

The sides of the jersey feature a red/white/blue “squiggly” pattern. These appear to form a series of “W”s.

Here’s a closer look:

One of the three players featured in the video, Kamari McGee, said the uniform “gives 90’s vibes,” that he thinks the new uniforms “by far might be the best ones,” and exclaimed, “I can’t wait to rock them!”

The jersey back is similarly plain, but with a bit of flair. NOB is in solid red block lettering, and the rear number follows the same color/pattern as on the front. Above the NOB, however, is a representation of the skyline of Madison, Wisconsin, where the main UW campus is located.

Here’s a closer look:

The shorts are white, with a solid white waistband. Red/blue stripes are on the hems. On both sides of the shorts is Wisconsin’s “Bucky” (the Badger) logo.

At the center of the waistband in the front is a graphic of the state of Wisconsin, rendered in red, with a white star showing the approximate location of UW-Madison.

While it would be nice to see some still photos (or at the very least the uniforms on a player), I like what I see so far. I don’t normally like side panels, but the black/white/red with the “W” squiggles is kind cool — and they thankfully didn’t repeat it as a pants stripe. And I absolutely LOVE the Bucky logo on either side of the shorts. I don’t mind the “skyline” above the NOB, but I’d be fine if it weren’t there either. It won’t be too visible anyway.

Wisconsin will officially debut the alternate uniforms for their conference opener, which will be against B1G rival Michigan on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. The Badgers officially open their season at home on Monday, November 4th, at 7:00 PM against the Holy Cross.

What do you guys think of the new alternates?

I know the school colors, but that sure looks navy to me. If only the school would provide a still photo or a description…

And based on the comment of a reader who has seen them, and confirms the accent color is black, I’ve updated the post to reflect this.

    Thanks!

Should have clarified that I saw a photo from the team store and it was clearly black. I apologize if my initial response came across in a not nice sounding light.

But, why navy? Black has been used as an accent on many Wisconsin uniforms, but why navy? Are they trying to imitate Michigan or Penn State? That’s the only thing that feels out of place to me, the rest is fine if unremarkable.

OK, if you’ve seen them, that’s good enough for me.

Post now updated, with “black” replacing “navy.”

    Thanks!

personally I feel like under armour looks good with certain schools like maryland, cincy, and south carolina but some schools it looks flat with like wisconsin and notre dame. subjective I guess

The skyline on the back looks like a four year-old got ahold of a thin red marker and started to doodle. Not good.

Not bad but the skyline theme is really played out (a lot of soccer teams have used it here in Europe on uniforms and merch) and unlike Phil I like matching side panels on basketball shirts and shorts. Basketball uniforms can have side panels, other sports uniforms not at all, please. I do like the big badgers on the shorts, one of my beloved college mascots.

You’re not wrong, but I think it usually looks okay. This one feels unnecessary though – it should be reserved for cities with recognizable skylines.
