Good Monday morning, Uni Watchers. I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend.
After one of the best looking weekends in a long time last week, the NFL’s Week Six matchups weren’t nearly as good. Three teams debuted new (for 2024) looks (one great, one interesting, and one disappointing). Let’s start with the Broncos.
As you’re all aware, the Broncos redesigned their uniforms for 2024, and each of their three new jerseys (orange, white and blue) can be mixed and matched with orange, white or blue pants. Thus far, the Broncos had only paired their orange jerseys with white pants, but yesterday they busted out a new combo: blue/orange/blue/blue.
I can’t say I’m a fan. In theory, I like it — but there’s just a bit too much navy. Apparently (based on the looks they unveiled) they plan to wear same-color socks and pants with every combo but the blue/white/orange look, where they pair that with white hose. That doesn’t mean they will always do that, of course, but it’s definitely de rigueur in the NFL these days to do so. I think I would have enjoyed the combo much more if they’d just worn orange socks.
The second team debuting a new combo yesterday was the Carolina Panthers, who paired their alternate black helmets with Process Blue jerseys and pants, with black socks.
I actually liked the look a lot! There was a good balance of black on top and bottom, with a lot of blue in between (and of course, a lot of untucked black undershirts). Now, it’s not a great look, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It did remind me a little bit of a college look, and I certainly wouldn’t want to see the Panthers break it out often — but for one game? Sure, why not. And I think the Panthers Process Blue is a great shade, so that certainly helped.
Finally, the last “new” look this week for 2024 was the New England Patriots, who broke out the Pat Patriot throwbacks.
I know there are a certain segment of fans (not necessarily Uni Watchers) who equate these unis with losing football. (Hopefully those same folks will feel the same way about the Pats’ current uniforms.) And honestly, it’s not an all-time great uniform. But it’s nice to see them once or twice a season. Sure, they came up short in the biggest game in which they were worn. But for those of us who grew up watching the Pats wearing these, it’s fun to see them in the sunshine again.
And now, for all of the week’s games and matchups, let’s take a look.
It was “Throwback Thursday” for TNF with the Seahawks and the 49ers wearing throwbacks. For some reason, San Francisco loves wearing these throwbacks when they visit Seattle. They’ve worn them in Seattle every time since 2019. This is the first time the Seahawks have worn their throwbacks vs. the Niners. I’d be all for every TNF game being “Throwback Thursday,” but the more appealing uni-matchup would have been for SF to wear their regular road unis.
Sunday Morning London Game: Jaguars vs. Bears
The Jaguars were back in their home away from home in London (they’ll play there next weekend, too), this time in their black/white/black/black combo, which especially looks like they’re wearing yoga pants since their britches have no stripes. The Bears always look good in their home navy, in no small part to their players wearing striped hose, even if they’re styled differently.
The Packers have such great home uniforms, it’s difficult for most teams to match up badly against them. And fortunately, the Cardinals road uniforms, even with their flaws, still looked pretty good under an overcast, cool day in Wisconsin.
For the past couple years, it seems, the Eagles have been wearing white hose with their white pants, and did so again yesterday. And normally, I love the Browns in white shirts/pants. Yesterday, though, orange pants might have looked better. Having both teams in white pants/socks wasn’t ideal, especially in bright sun. It wasn’t a terrible looking game, but it could have been better.
I know some of you aren’t fans of the Patriots’ throwbacks, but they’ve so far superior to anything else the team wears. And I will say this, there was no problem with contrast in this game. Two things about the Texans’ new road unis: 1) the bull horn/stripes look worse each time I see them but 2) I am liking the asymmetrical pants stripes more with each game. I won’t go so far as to say “Make these permanent” with regard to Pat Patriot, but New England definitely needs a redesign soon.
There aren’t too many times in a season the Colts don’t look great, but whenever they decide to go head-to-toe white, that’s one of those times. It looks especially bad when an opponent goes head-to-toe dark, as was the case with the Titans yesterday. It’s not quite Spy vs. Spy, but it’s close.
Six weeks in (and counting) and the Saints still have not worn gold pants at all. And for field-level shots in the poorly lit Superdome, they tend to blend into the background. I’m almost wondering if they are doing it on purpose. I’ve made suggestions and other ways the team could modify their on-field look, so I won’t waste more breath here. Maybe the ass-whoopin’ the Bucs dropped on them will make them want to (JUST ONCE!) wear the gold pants, but I doubt it. At least the Bucs looked good in victory.
Both the Ravens and Commanders have looked very good in recent weeks, so it was a bit of a disappointment when they matched up under a beautiful Baltimore sun yesterday. Since their pants are stripeless, I’m more convinced than ever the Commanders should always wear constrasting color socks. And all the Ravens needed to do to look fantastic was wear black socks.
And this was our color palette special of the weekend. Of course, this could have been a decent looking game had the Broncos worn different socks. But this is the style now, so maybe in your mind you can picture Denver in orange socks.
Finally. Now we’re cookin’ with gas. It’s nigh on impossible for a Raiders/Steelers tilt to look bad. Other than Najee Harris going renegade with his socks, this is how teams should dress on Sunday.
This one was actually a more pleasant matchup than I imagined. The Falcons don’t look particularly good, especially with the red side panel/stripes, but black/white/black/white is one of their better combos. But color-wise (if not design-wise), the game actually was better than the sum of its parts.
I have to at least partially blame the Cowboys for this one. By going with their blue jerseys and white pants for a home game, they forced the Lions to to wear white — and that left open the door for them to go all white. For teams with stripeless pants, there oughta be a law against same-color socks. I don’t mind the ‘boys wearing blue shirts at home, but they should pair those with silver/gray pants, not the white alternates.
I know I harp on my distaste for same-color socks and pants, but the Giants vs. Bengals shows you why it’s important. I don’t know how you all “see” a football uniform, but I see it as four distinct parts: helmet, jersey, pants, socks. When teams wear same-color socks/pants, that (to me anyway) is combining everything below the waist into one look. I’m OK sometimes with same-color socks/pants (like the Ravens), but almost all other times, the pants and socks should be different colors. This just looks right.
So who do you think made the Five and One? Read on to find out…
The Saints really need an intervention. STOP WITH THE MONO BLACK TRAIN WRECK! Gold helmets. Black jerseys. Gold pants. Striped socks. Jeez, this isn’t that difficult. But knowing today’s NFL, we can expect them to stick with mono black—-and add that awful black helmet just to spite those of us with good taste. Thank God for the Packers.
As a Saints fan, I can safely say the entire franchise needs to be gutted from ownership all the way down. The uniforms are in bad need of a redesign, but their staleness is a perfect snapshot of how stale this franchise has become. Too bad the owner doesn’t really care.
I’m with you guys on the Saints and the fanbase has complained every week about the mono blacks and even more awfull all whites, not the throwbacks though. Those all blacks are hideous to look at and I have no idea why the Saints ever opted to go with those regularly. It’s not like they were good luck as the Saints most important season in 2009 was gold pants for those two big playoffs wins to get to the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl.
I don’t know if it’s the owner or whoever, but the person who made the decision to make all blacks the home uniform needs to be slapped. Usually coaches influence these decisions, but I can’t say that’s the case here since Sean Payton started this garbage. I root for the Saints to become the Aints again to get rid of them, so I was happy after yesterday. The only problem was the Bucs didn’t wear their fabulous pewter pants in the beating. Bring the gold pants back!
The Saints do not need a TOTAL REDESIGN. They simply need to wear Gold pants with both White and Gold jerseys, AND, darken the Gold a bit much to contrast with the White jerseys, instead of the Weak Cat Piss “Vegas Gold” they’ve worn for the past 25-3- years.
I’m blaming the mono=Black uniforms on the players. They take great glee in announcing the uniform combos every week. Perhaps it goes back to Drew Brees wanting Black pants similar to his Purdue uniforms in college and the Saints sticking with it after he departed? Perhaps it is chosen by the same 20-something staffers that blare aggravating, grating Ghetto rap music between every play in the SuperDome.
An EXCELLENT UniWatch subject would be to find out exactly WHO inside the organization decides exactly which combos the team will wear each week? How is it decided? How does that decision vary from each organization? THAT would be an interesting subject of inquiry.

It was the capper of a brutal weekend of Pittsburgh vs. NY/NJ sports:

My wife likes to wear monochromatic outfits. Therefore, when she sees one on a football field, she tends to like it as well. But even she admitted when she saw the Saints mono-black nightmare uniforms that they could’ve used a little bit more gold below the waist (at least a stripe or something). For the good of humanity the Saints need to ditch the black pants FOREVER.
Naw the saints need to make the throwbacks permanent first. Then we can complain about them not wearing gold pants. For right now though there “gold” pants should never see the light of day. That color is ugly as *#@$. There constant use of mono black speaks more about their desperate need for new uniforms.
Yeah, I think the Saints need to redesign their uniforms first and use the throwback template, but get back to the gold pants as regulars for home and away and get away from the monochrome looks.
One thing that I’m starting to hate more and more is teams having too many options. It’s better to know the team will only be wearing two looks all season and maybe occasional throwbacks or alternate look up to twice a year and that’s it.
I actually enjoyed the Panthers and Broncos uniforms. But, that could change if we see them all the time.
And why on earth Detroit would wear white pants KNOWING Dallas was going to is beyond me. Would have looked much better had they gone with some contrast of the blue or gray pants.
The only time I would like that Broncos uni set yesterday is when I’m watching Boise St play.
Panthers would’ve looked better to me if it had been blue on black. Broncos was amazing, I love the mix and match looks. Orange on blue looked so good but the socks needed to be orange.
Lions and Cowboys was the worst uniform game for me yesterday as it was way too much white. I was pissed when the Cowboys wore blue at home because the Lions have fallen in love with their all white look that I really hate. Lions have practice uniforms on. Despite all of the losing over the years in Detroit, they always had one of the best uniform combos with white on silver or blue. To abandon that for white pants is ridiculous. Dallas should only be wearing silver with blue. This is one of thimble situations where classic teams having too many options is hurting these teams. I was hoping when the Lions new uniforms came out they’d only be silver pants both ways full time with blue pants just for two road games a season.
I actually prefer the Cowboys in the white pants with blue tops because their “silver” pants don’t seem to match the helmets as well anymore.
Nah I can’t get use to it as the white looks awful on the Cowboys, they’re a silver pants team like the Lions. That uniform match-up was nasty and too white yesterday.
Exactly. The white pants with blue tops are much better than the silverblue pants with white tops. When Dallas is on TV wearing white tops, its just so terrible with the silverblue pants. Those pants should go away forever. Get some real grey pants, like they used to wear.
POINT OF ORDER: the silver-blue-green home pants never matched the helmets. But what they wear now is more of a flat Carolina, sky or Columbia blue, and it looks terrible.
Can anyone explain The Titans uniform to me? Beyond the yoke being swords (which is already absurd) what is going on in the armpit area? What is that “= sign” on their britches? How do you mess up navy/light blue?
This was one of fail era Nike attempts or the last decade and oh boy is it time for them to go…
I totally agree with you. I get the shoulder yoke. But the armpit thing and the pants stripes (if you want to call them that) are so out of place. Sure, up close they may look ok. But, on the field they just look awkward.
The diagonal pants stripes are meant to evoke a sword worn on the hip. Yeah.
To me, this is one of the dumbest uniform elements in all of sports. This probably seems really cool to a 7-year-old. It’s like a football uniform, but with SWORDS!
PS: Please don’t bring up Denver’s “5280” and the random armpit triangles. It’s a bit of a sore subject.
And that brutal type design they use for their numbers, egad!
Somebody wake me up when we’re out of the monochromatic leotard era.
Also, that Denver look? Woof. Especially a week after those magnificent Orange Crush unis.
I totally agree about the Broncos uniform yesterday. It is amazing how they could have arguably the best uniform one week, and possibly the worst just a week later.
Here’s the thing on one hand you hate the monochrome look like I do, but then on the other you don’t like the Broncos doing orange on blue which looks phenomenal? You have to support the those looks if you want the monochrome to stop. Broncos throwbacks were disappointing to me last week.
“I don’t know how you all “see” a football uniform, but I see it as four distinct parts: helmet, jersey, pants, socks.”
– I would include shoes. Because so many players match their socks to their pants, shoes are often the last bastion of contrast.
“The Cardinals road uniforms are just a couple tiny tweaks away from being modern classics”
– If by “a couple,” you mean overhaul the jerseys and the pants, I’ll completely agree with you. Otherwise, no. Their all-white look is boring, especially without contrasting red socks. All their other uni combos are much worse. Imitating Ohio State may have worked for the USFL’s Tampa Bay Bandits, but not the Cardinals. Although, it’s kind of fitting that the NFL’s all-time losingest franchise (805 losses and counting) looks like losers.
Well, included in those tweaks is mandatory cardinal red socks.
The other minor tweaks include swapping out the silver stripes for black (and removing “CARDINALS” from said stripe). Those changes would at least put their road uniform on the road to respectability, if not a decent uniform in its own right. There’s no saving the red uni, and the BFBS has no reason to exist — but at least the BFBS uni has stripes.
Even as is, the Cardinals road is not a terrible uniform. And compared to the other two looks they have, it’s a masterpiece (which isn’t saying much, I know).
I agree with you on the Cards, they really ought to get rid of the white pants. If they paired those withe red jerseys that’s fine, but they got too much white in their uniform. Red pants would balance it out. Honestly, I see they have silver in their color scheme now, they should really adopted silver pants. Those would look fantastic on them paired with white and red tops.

There were a lot of doubleheaders on that day!
6 DH with 4 splits and 2 sweeps (Astros and Yankees). 16 games total for a 20 team MLB.
Sunday DH is something that Manfred should bring back, but alas…
Pretty sure I was at that doubleheader. My dad used to take me on the 3-hour drive to Crosley once a year in the late 60s, always a Sunday doubleheader, and I know we saw the Cubs on one trip.

With Arizona going all white, made me think of Green Bay playing the University of Wisconsin
My thoughts on the nfl week (so far):
I second the comment above. The titans sword yoke is bad enough (a two-toned regular yoke or along-the-shoulder stripe element would be miles better than the literal sword look). And I tend to forget about the thing in the armpit and the slashy thing on the thigh. That combined with their skinny little number font really makes their look a mess.
The broncos continue to look decent but the mountain element on the sleeve is so poorly executed that it doesn’t read or fit well with the overall design. It doesn’t ruin it for me but it’s a misstep in an otherwise good design.
While I dislike Pat Patriot, the fact that their primary sets are basically navy-dominant throwbacks, I do really like the red throwback look. If they slapped Elvis on the helmet instead of Pat, this could be part of their primaries for sure. The stripes on the socks are chef’s kiss.
Same-color pants and socks (regardless of jersey color) can look very good if you ask me, but stripes on the pants or socks go a long way in making it really sing.
The panthers dropped the ball imo. The black pants and black socks would have looked way sleeker imo.
I think the same colored pants and socks don’t work good, but it’s not always awful like the Broncos looked great to me yesterday, although I’d prefer to see orange socks with any pants.
New England’s throwbacks should’ve been red socks with stripes on them or white socks eith stripes on them. To me the current Pat’s uniforms aren’t bad, it’s just when they pair all blue together it’s a mess. Their uniforms look a lot better when the silver pants are worn with them.
I agree w Consistently and take it a step further.. Every see a Cardinal in the Sonoran desert? They look like hell. For an area so rich in color and wildlife it has never made sense to me that they kept a mascot that really is mostly associated as an eastern creature. Beyond my paygrade but I think they would have done themselves a significant favor disassociating themselves from St Louis outright.
Don’t forget the Cardinals began life in Chicago (becoming charter members of the NFL in 1920). And I’m pretty sure they were named not for the bird, but for the color of their uniforms.
Noted! Still kinda out of place for saguaro-land..
Arizona does have the desert cardinal called the Pyrrhuloxia bird
Ever, not every. I suck at typing.
I generally liked the panthers unis too. I waited to see the panthers helmets in action. Couldn’t really see the blue panther on the black.
Given the known quantities of NFL unis, it all comes down to the socks.
Great 5&1, agree whole heartedly. Especially the point about how unis are broken down to 4 parts and how half of them have to contrast for it to look good.
Come on Saints, just bring back the gold pants. You don’t look tougher in all black!
I agree Saints need to bring back the gold pants and their fans are getting tired of then too it seems.
If the Cards’ silver stripes were black, that away set would be really nice. Just look at old photos of them in the 70s for a guide. I won’t talk about their other sets, because they suck.
All of these teams with “metal” colored helmets should always wear their corresponding “metal” colored pants. Always. Those helmets with white pants looks like shit, striped pants or not, although the Bucs look a little better since the pewter color is pretty dark.
The Browns should always wear the orange pants. Always.
I’ll keep saying it (even though it will likely never end and I’m yelling at the sky here), but the leotard look is beyond terrible, especially with the no-stripe pants. It’s particularly bad with non-white pants, although the Lions looked ridiculous too.
Broncos went from one of the best looks (their throwbacks) to one of their worst in a single week.
Throwbacks were overrated to me, I loved the orange blue look this week. Very unique and looked great on the Broncos.
Respectfully disagree Larry. Pretty sure you’re in the minority thinking this week’s Broncos looked better than last. But hey, we’re all just voicing subjective opinions here.
Orange Crush, that was a unique uniform.
New uni’s? Can’t tell if they are Boise St, Auburn or UTSA. But definitely NOT the Denver friggin Broncos.
If the Panthers went with black pants, I would’ve dug those unis…
has anyone designed a Panthers Black helmet with the white teeth and eyes and silver on the stripes? It would be a huge improvement.
I agree with everybody on the Saints, as I think the franchise should retire the all black look after yesterday’s embarrassing beating. Their own fanbase hates the all blacks too. When they first came out they were decent. Gold pants need to comeback full time.
I loved the Broncos orange on blue set as I prefer mix and mistaking over dull monochromes. I think these would’ve looked even better if they were paired with orange socks. I know people prefer the throwbacks from last week, but they were overrated to me. Chargers white on yellow is underrated, they always look great in those unis.
Cardinals are still too white to me, as I was wondering if they would adopt silver pants in the future. They have silver in their color scheme and those would look a lot better with silver or red pants. It’s just too much white for me right now.
Speaking of too much white, boy that Lions and Cowboys game was hideous yesterday. It’s a shame too because both teams are silver pants teams. I knew when the Cowboys went with blue tops that would force the Lions to wear their terrible bland white practice uniforms. Cowboys blue tops are perfection with silver pants, but the white is okay with them. Lions are a mess and their new uniforms are looking bad. So far I’ve only been pleased with their blue on silver combo. Their white uniforms are terrible especially with the white pants and big Detroit letters on the front of the jersey. This is when I wish teams, especially classic NFL teams like the Lions didn’t have a thousand options. Lions should’ve only had silver and occasionally wore blue pants twice a year. White should’ve been thrown out completely. It’s a shame Dan Campbell bought in that Saints mono crap to the Lions. I think the all whites are a tad bit cursed they lost the NFC title game in them and they lost their most important defensive player Hutch for the rest of the season.
I like Texans new road uniforms a lot as the bull horn feature is great to me. I like how dark the steel blue is on the pants. I do associate the Patriots throwbacks with losing, but they are a great uniform. The only problem that I had with them was the socks needed to be red or have stripes on them. Patriots currents are actually good, except the hideous all blues. When paired with silver pants they look great. They could still use new uniforms next season.
I was never a huge fan of the Colts all white uniform, as I’d like to see them adopt blue pants, but the one thing that I do respect about the Colts is that they are limited on their uniform options. Too many options are killing these teams. Stick with two uniforms all year and designate a couple of games for throwbacks or alternates and that’s it.
I love Dan Quinn bringing in better uniform combos to the Redskins. I love the burgundy on yellow looks at home this season and I love seeing the classic white on burgundy look as well. I do hope to see the new yellow pants with the white jerseys at some point.
Did the Browns ditch their brown and orange pants this season? I’ve noticed they’re only wearing white pants so far this season. Orange pants would’ve looked better against the Eagles.
Panthers blue jerseys looks better with black pants to me. Falcons best road look is white on black, but I agree I hate that red side panel. It would be even better if the Falcons had red pants for the road. Falcons should just bring back their 90s uniforms, though full time.
I still miss the Giants gray pants with blue jerseys and I miss their Super Bowl winning road uniforms even more.
Overall, the best uniform game to me was Chargers-Bronocos as those uniforms on both sides were just awesome. BTW, Seahawks,Eagles, and Bucs have the best throwbacks in the league.
Here’s my top 5 best and worst uniforms from this weekend. Honorable mention for worst are the Buckeyes who should never be caught dead wearing white pants ever again. If Bama, Auburn, Penn State, and other schools won’t adopt colored pants then colored pants teams shouldn’t adopt white pants either.
BEST
5. Texans
4. Chargers
3. Raiders
2. Broncos
1. Seahawks (full time in the future)
WORST
5. Cardinals
4. Cowboys
3. Titans
2. Saints
1. Lions
Only 3 games this weekend where both teams wore contrasting socks. This ballet tights/yoga pants/long johns trend keeps getting worse at both the pro and college level, which makes me think we are nowhere near the end of it. This was a bad looking week.
The Titans really do have the overall worst unis in the league. Everything they’ve worn since dumping the Oilers name has been bush league – blow everything up, including the name.
Houston and Denver, short of Super Bowl victories, will probably end up dumping their new sets the moment the 5 year window is up. These things look worse on the field every week and won’t age gracefully.
Those all white pants really are the poison pill in Detroit’s new set.
Cincy-NYG was a surprisingly nice looking game. I really like the Bengals’ road whites with the orange helmet and black socks.
I like the Texans new road uniforms, though, but you’re spot on about everything else. Titans now have the worst uniforms in the league after Denver’s changed.
Lions new uniforms looked promising and then the white ones came. Why weren’t these suckers dropped? White pants just do not look good on the Lions and they look even worse with the big Detroit tag in the front of the jersey. Should’ve just kept the last uniforms.
I was thinking about my 5+1, but honestly I think there were some teams who looked really good and some teams who looked terrible, but only one matchup where both teams looked amazing.
BEST – Pittsburgh/Las Vegas wins the week. There’s nothing I would change about the unis for either team. I like the primary home/road unis for both teams, but think Raiders home vs Pittsburgh road is one of the best combos in the NFL.
Other Teams Who Looked Good:
5. Jets: Based on the previews, I think they’re going to look pretty good. I normally don’t like mono, even mono white, but the pants stripes and the socks stripes make this work.
4. Giants: I like them so much better when they’re a blue team than when they lean into the red. I like the pants stripes. I like that they were contrasting socks. I like that there’s no gimmicks or “story-telling.”
3. Green Bay. It’s a great uni. It would be better with striped socks, but at least the socks are not the same color as the pants.
2. Chicago. I love the striped socks. I love how the striped socks echo the sleeve stripes. I love that the pants stripes are slightly different. This is a great looking uniform.
1. Seattle. I love this shade of blue so much more than the darker blue they normally wear, and when they do green in moderation, it pops so much better. Pair the navy jerseys with gray pants. Pair the white jerseys with either navy or grey pants. Ditch that horrific baby snot green alt. Or just make these throwbacks permanent.
Teams Who Were One Element (usually a Pair of Contrasting Socks) Away from Looking Great:
– Browns: Swap the white pants for brown or orange and they’d look fantastic.
– Patriots: Back in the day, I used to love looking at all the NFL gear in the Sears Wish Book. Put striped socks (or a red upper sock, whatever those are called), and the Pats would look the way I remember them looking in the Wish Book. That may be a bad thing for some people, but for me it’s – comforting.
– Colts: Last week they wore blue socks and it made all the difference in the world.
– Cowboys: I love their blue jersey, but it would look a million times better paired with the grey pants they wore in the preseason.
Fails:
1. 49ers – The black drop shadow on the jersey numbers just kills this uniform.
2. Titans: Sigh. Where do I start? Okay, I’ll start with the number font. It’s tragic.
3. Saints: I’m not going to restate what so many others have already said. More gold, less black please.
4. Lions: They need pants stripes or contrasting socks or something ANYTHING to break up the monotony from the bottom of the jersey number down to their feet.
5. Bills: The mono blue is their second worst look, behind only the mono red.
But the “prize” for the worst matchup goes to Atlanta vs Carolina.
Atlanta: Make the red helmet standard. Either drop the ATL wordmark on the jersey or change it to Atlanta. Fix the pointed stripes on the jersey and pants. Their one saving grace is they wore contrasting socks.
Carolina: This was the worst look of the weekend, IMO. First, the black helmet is unnecessary and doesn’t work. The blue outline of the panther doesn’t work on the black helmet. Next, I love Process Blue. It’s a great color. But the pointed stripes on the shoulders and pants are awful. The jersey would’ve looked great with grey or white or even black pants (assuming the socks were a contrasting color), but blue pants with blue jerseys was too much. They tried to compensate by wearing the black undershirt untucked, but all that did was a) confirm that there was too much blue happening together and b) make the players look like slobs. This uni has some good elements – although the helmet is not one of them – but the execution failed.
Yeah, I don’t like the 49ers throwbacks either. 49ers really need to just shelf those and stick with their primaries only. Lions al whites are so bad it’s equally bad with the Saints all black unis. Dan Campbell bought that disease to Detroit and ruined their uniforms. White on silver is perfection like Ohio State and the Raiders. Carolina’s blue tops only look good with black or silver pants.
I am liking the Jets throwbacks so far tonight.
As a Panther fan since their beginning, I will always prefer the traditional white uniform with silver helmet and black and blue jersey with silver helmet and pants, both with blue socks. With that said, other than the black helmet needing a bit of silver and white and a gloss finish, the all black or all blue with either helmet, worn once a year is not a bad look at all. Yesterday was such a better look than pairing black and blue pants and jersey together.
Pat the Patriot is a huge improvement of their normal look.
The Bronco look yesterday wasn’t great but wasn’t brutal. Defiantly needed orange socks.
I am in the minority but I really like the Saints mono black with the gold helmet. It makes the players look fast and reminds me of the success of the team when Breeze and Payton were leading them.
It’s disturbing enough that a game with both teams wearing white pants when each has frankly better options made the Top 5. But the Patriots’ throwback is “not an all-time great uniform?”
We’re living in a society … We’re supposed to act in a civilized way!!!
The Broncos looked good in a never before worn combo in team history. They need orange socks for blue and white pants. Blue socks for orange or white pants only. I approve of any combo where jersey and pants are different and not mono.
You guys seem to agree with me, I loved the Broncos set, but it should’ve been orange socks ovver blue socks.
I’m gladdened to see the (already-cemented-as-modetn- classics) Cards’ road uniform earning high marks yet again this week…ok, red socks would heighten the look a touch, but they would be wise to steer clear of going white over red – even though many call for that option.
How much more would I like that uniform if they wore grey pants with red/white/red stripes instead of white pants with red/grey/red stripes. Maybe it wouldn’t look great, but in my head it looks so much more interesting than white over white.
That said, I really wish they’d pair the white jersey with…well, CARDINAL RED pants.
I’m starting to really hate those Broncos uniforms, especially after seeing them in the throwbacks last week. The shoulder cap is just so annoying to me.
It’s like they had an idea (make it look like a mountain) but they refused to follow through with it, so on most of their sleeves it just looks like a zig-zag with a swoosh on top. If they top of the mountain was always white, it would probably work.
And those stupid triangles on the back of the helmet…ugh
The red Pat Patriot uniform IS an all-time classic. I think it’s one of the best sports uniforms I’ve ever seen. Thank the Football Gods that they’re wearing it twice a year. These should be the primaries because they’re stunning and beautiful and chowdery and they can do some 2000s or 97 throwbacks here and there for nostalgia
What I’d do is keep the reds once or twice a year and make their late 90s uniforms their new primary uniforms. Add blue pants for road uniforms.
I’m liking the Jets throwbacks and I’m not an all white mono guy at all, but these throwbacks look pretty good for the Jets tonight. The font is different from the 1998-2018 set and green seems to be lighter like the pre-1978 sets. Overall, the Jets new uniforms have been a huge win for me.
Lions because of the odd monochrome combinations it’s killing their new uniforms. They need to get rid of those, Dan Campbell has ruined their uniform combinations. I have to put the Texans and Broncos new uniforms ahead of theirs. Lions blue on silver is the only set I’ve liked so far this season. White on blue wasn’t bad, but their road uniforms need some fixing as the huge Detroit lettering needs to be removed. Ditch the white pants permanently, PLEASE! Probably not happening until MCDC is gone.
The 49ers wear their ‘55/‘94 road throwbacks in Seattle because that’s what they were wearing when they clinched the division and #1 seed in the playoffs back in 2019. That game was going to settle the division crown and NFC seeding on the last day of the regular season. Considering the magnitude of that win, and because that stadium had been a total house of horrors for the 49ers, it’s become a tradition to wear them up there under Shanahan.
My conclusion is that, contrary to my earlier belief, the NFL teams do not care what they wear at all. As long as they win games and everybody gets paid a lot they do not care what they wear. Here I was, seeing this BFBS versus WFWS trend developping and thinking it was the players who want this chess game aesthetic but after this weekend I really think they shrug when they see which combination is hanging in their locker room booth. We care, they do not.
