Previewing The NFL’s Week 6 Sunday Uniform Matchups (UPDATED)

After being treated to a veritable smörgåsbord of really great uniform matchups in Week 5, Sunday’s games this week won’t feature nearly as much eye candy. The Patriots will wear their Pat Patriot throwbacks and the Carolina Panthers will be debuting a brand new combo (and wait till you see what pants they’ve chosen), but for the most part, the games won’t look as nice as last week. All uniform combos below are shown up-to-date as of 6:45 pm ET, but there are stll a few teams who haven’t announced their pants/socks. I’ll update this post if anything changes.

Maybe Sunday’s games won’t be great (or at least as good as last week), but Monday night will feature the New York Jets wearing their Super Bowl throwbacks (I’ll have more to say on that on Monday). Scroll on for this week’s pairings…

_________

Jaguars vs. Bears

The Jags are back in London to take on the Bears. White jerseys over black pants/hosiery for Duval, while the Bears will wear their normal home uniforms. At least the Brits will see the Bears in their home Sunday best.

__________

Cardinals vs. Packers

This one has the potential to be a great looking game, with the Packers in their beautiful green and gold againt the Cardinals in their mono-whites. Sure, the Cardinals white uniforms can use a few tweaks (like swapping black for silver on the stripes), but it’s otherwise a pretty solid uni.

__________

Eagles vs. Browns

This game should look fine, although it will be awfully white below the waist. The Eagles are going with their now standard green/green/white/white combo, and the Browns are in their classic orange/white/white duds. Probably not a Top 5 matchup, but a good one. I would have preferred the Browns to have gone with orange britches.

__________

Texans vs. Patriots

The Patriots will be breaking out their fantastic throwbacks this Sunday. The Texans will counter with their white jerseys and blue pants, with blue hosiery. This might look ok, although the Texans road uni with all-navy below the waist isn’t their best look. We’ll need to see this one on the field.

__________

Colts vs. Titans

Contrast will be no problem in this game, with the Colts in all white (hopefully with royal blue hose), while the Titans will be sporting their mono-navy duds.

__________

Buccaneers vs. Saints

Yet again, the Saints will wear their black pants and socks with their black jerseys — as I mention often, the team wore their gold pants for all three preseason games, but have yet to wear them in the regular season. The Bucs haven’t announced their pants as of yet, but maybe they’ll go with their white set. Going with pewter pants is a better look for them, but it might not be for this matchup.

UPDATE: The Bucs will indeed wear white pants for this game.

__________

Commanders vs. Ravens

As of this writing, the Commanders haven’t revealed their pants preference, but with the Ravens going purple over white, Washington in burgundy slacks and white hose would probably be the best matchup. It could look pretty good, actually.

UPDATE: The Commanders will wear burgundy pants, but will wear burgundy socks.

__________

Steelers vs. Raiders

Whenever these two teams hook up, we’re almost always guaranteed a great looking game, and on Sunday, they’ll both be in their Sunday best. With just a few minor tweaks and with obvious concessions to new uniform design and cuts, this game will look very much like one played decades ago. And that’s a good thing. This one is almost assuredly in the Top 5, it’s just a question of where.

__________

Chargers vs. Broncos

If only the Broncos had chosen to wear their Orange Crush throwbacks for three games, instead of two, this would be the game. Unfortunately, their third alternate game will be against the Browns in Week 13, when they will hopefully choose the least awful combo (IMO white/blue/orange, but none of them look good). So they’ll be in blue hats and orange jerseys, but have yet to declare their pants. They’ve yet to wear anything but white pants and socks with the new orange shirt, but will they decide to go orange/orange/orange or orange/blue/blue for the first time? Either way, hopefully the Chargers go white over gold.

UPDATE: The Chargers will indeed wear gold pants! This has a chance to be Sunday’s color palette special.

UPDATE #2: The Broncos will wear their blue pants and socks with their orange jerseys, marking the first time this combination well ever be worn.

__________

Falcons vs. Panthers

Welp. We learned earlier this week the Panthers would be debuting a never-before-worn combination against the Dirty Birds, but we didn’t know until a short while ago what pants and socks they’d be wearing with the black helmet and Process Blue jersey. They’re going black/blue/blue/black, which is certainly an interesting sartorial decision. And the Falcons will counter with black/white/black/white, a combo they wore in the preseason this year. This will definitely be an odd pairing that could turn out awful. At least the only color element they’ll have in common is the black helmet. But before I trash this pairing, I need to see it on the field.

__________

Lions vs. Cowboys

The Lions will be wearing their silver helmets and white shirts, but haven’t yet declared their pants. Their best combo for this game might actually be their blue pants and white socks, which would provide decent contrast between the two teams. With the Cowboys pairing their white pants with the silver helmet/navy blue shirt, the Lions in Honolulu Blue/white below the waist could push Top-5 status. Maybe. And I’m not getting my hopes up either.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, the Lions will be adding white pants and socks to their silver/white helmets and jerseys.

__________

Bengals vs. Giants

Here’s a case where both teams have very solid uniforms, but may not look so great when paired together. We actually had a similar looking matchup between the two back in 2020 (Cincy was home, wearing their then-Color Rush uniform). It’s not terrible by any means, and this time all the Bengals ws ill be in black hose. This might sneak into the Top 5.

Perusing the GUD I found some Totally Useless Trivia about this weekend’s games:
The Giants have never lost to the Bengals at home.
This is only the third time the Cowboys will wear blue jerseys at home against the Lions.

That Jags look should be called their “Fulhams” especially since they are in London

    That’s a really good call!
…although to be *truly* Fulham, they’d have to go with white socks (Fulham wore black socks at home last year, but white’s their traditional sock choice).

The previous set of Broncos’ uniforms had one nice element: The white tube socks with the navy cuffs and orange stripe. I’d un-retire this feature and add it to the new duds.

Can someone ask the owners WHY teams continue to with the mono shit? It would be nice to at least have an answer as to who chooses the uniform combos, and why.

The Patriots should take these throwbacks, replace the red with blue and vice versa (so same style just with colors reversed), and make that their new official uni. I love the old red shirts, but the Brits were the redcoats. Hell, even Pat Patriot is wearing a blue coat on the helmet. Make it happen, whoever-makes-these-things-happen!
