Hershey Bears to Wear Special Champions Sweater for Two Games to Open Season

After unveiling two new uniforms for the 2024-25 AHL season, the Hershey Bears are turning things up a notch, when the two-time defending Calder Cup Champions will wear a special jersey for their two games this weekend.

Tomorrow, the Bears will open the season with their banner-raising game against the Cleveland Monsters, and will faceoff against Cleveland again on Sunday evening.

Last night, the team unveiled this new chocolate and white sweater which touts their back-to-back Calder Cup championships in during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seaons.

The sweaters are chocolate brown, with white piping, and featuring a special new crest which reads “Back To Back Calder Cup Champions” with the dates beneath when the latest two cups were won. The letter “B” is written in gold, which also forms the number “13” — is in recognition of the 13 championships the franchise has won in their history. The remainder of the “Back To Back” is written in white type. And although the team got new uniforms this year, they’re not just slapping this crest on the new jersey (they are instead using their prior jersey design). Here’s a side-by-side of their 2024-25 home sweater on the left, and the special jersey they’ll wear this weekend on the right:

The design of the crest is almost identical to the Bears new center ice design.

In addition to the special sweater, the Bears also unveiled their 2024 Calder Cup Champs rings.

Not a fan. The logo looks too much like a giant ad and what about that weird striping on the sides?

It’s leftover Reebok Edge-era piping, similar to what the Calgary Flames and post-slug Buffalo Sabres had on their Edge unis. Even though the uniforms in the minors were never Reebok-branded, they adopted many of the Edge system’s idiosyncrasies.

Instead of “using their prior jersey design,” I wonder if they actually ARE the old jerseys with the logos switched out. Seems practical for a minor league team.
