We just got a bit of great news from the Jacksonville Jaguars this afternoon. After the very well-received reactions to the Jaguars’ Prowler throwback uniforms against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, the team announced they will wear the jerseys one more time this season. Both players and fans loved them!
The Jaguars will wear their throwbacks in Week 15 against the New York Jets which will be on December 15.
Jaguars President Mark Lamping stated back in July when the new uniforms were unveiled, “Everywhere I go and from every comment I read – it’s apparent our fans are longing to see Jaguars’ players in throwback uniforms. That persistence paid off and our uniforms reminiscent of the team’s early years are back by popular demand, just in time for the 30th season.”
And of course, what better way to announce the second coming of the throwbacks than with a hype video, right?
You can wear the same outfit twice, right? @ticketmaster | #DUUUVAL

I think it’s pretty safe to say that anyone with eyes feels the throwbacks are far superior to anything they’re currently wearing. I have called for them to return to these with their next redesign (and they’re five year window is clear — they are in the seventh season of their current iteration of uniforms).
The fact that the team is bringing these back for a second showing is a positive sign that perhaps…just perhaps…they’re looking into just that. As I suggested yesterday with the Saints, the Jags could make this uniform their primary, add a white jersey for their road kit, and then add both black jerseys and pants (all of which they had with the throwback), and they’d have a fine set. Then they could add something else to go with their new white helmet (maybe an all white uniform or something else that’s trendy?). Done and done.
Glad the Jags chose to break these out again. And hopefully the Jets will wear their white jerseys and pants.
Your thoughts?
Two simple reasons why these work so well:
1) They don’t have any of the gimmicks present in all the other Jags uniforms in their history; two toned helmet, weird side slashes, unnecessary shoulder caps, strange knee stripes, chest patch…
2) They actually use gold in the rest of the uniform so the helmet logo doesn’t feel out of place. This uniform makes it clear teal is the primary color, but even though the helmet is black, there is a significant amount of gold in the uniform that the team does in fact look like gold is part of their brand.
If they don’t go full reverse to these, it would work just as well to swap in the new logo on the helmet, and a full body version of it on the sleeves. Maybe do a different number font? But really the pant stripes, gold sleeve stripe, and gold trim on the number make this uniform pop.
I was never a big fan of these when they were current, but they’re miles ahead of anything they’ve worn since.
I wish this team could figure out how to use a little more gold (without going full jaguar-print). Gold and teal/turquoise is such a great combination, but it seems like every time the Jags update their uniforms, they just fall deeper into the black/white scheme. Maybe they’re still working through residual trauma from that two-toned helmet experiment and the honey-mustard color rash.
Sure to be a good looking matchup…easily a top-5er for week 15, even if Jersey B wears the green pants – and no green ‘socks’, please.
if they do the black pants do them with the gold/black/teal/black gold stripe
They did that in 2003, for one or two games only. It was ugly. That’s why they only did it once.
Just as I wish the Commies and Chefs had yellow face masks, I kind of wish the Jags had teal.
Even the throwback logo is superior…bring it back!
I think they will make this the main uniform for 2025, but probably with the new helmet logo plus a crawler with that logo. It’ll be nice either way. The set they wore last Sunday is the classic, everyone agrees. It’s the road look and the alternate look where the trouble starts.
The original road look was the same white pants with tritone stripe and teal numbers. The black helmet looks out of place with it.
They changed to black pants. The stripe on the pants was ugly and now the teal numbers look out of place.
They went to solid black pants and black numbers and it was nice, but now there was no teal on the road look. Just in the trim and it didn’t pop, the main pop was gold.
The answer is out there, but they haven’t found it yet. But some parameters. Black pants are fine. Black pants with a single teal stripe, maybe with thin gold trim, would be fine. Two teal stripes is busy, we saw that in 2003. Teal pants are fine, but they should have a black stripe, maybe trimmed in gold. Solid teal pants are ugly, we saw that in 2023. Black socks are fine. Black numbers are fine. Teal socks are fine. Teal numbers are fine. But here’s the really important part: the socks and numbers on the road uniform need to be the same color, then the pants need to be the other color. We need to see both the teal and the black on the road and we need contrast at the knee.
The unsung hero of these is honestly the black tights/socks. Imagine if those were white, still a great set but it’s the hosiery that brings it all together so perfectly.
I hope they do what the Jets did and make these the primary unis next season.
So good. And at least contrasting pants/socks.
Hope the jets go with their white throwback uni in that game
Don’t count on it. They’re gonna wear “The Classic” uni only once, when they host the Bills on MNF.
I like their current unis much better than these throwbacks, which I never liked back in the day and now that I see them again I remember exactly why I didn’t like them. They just feel washed out to me. I think their current set “pops” more and I’m not sure if this is the case but it looks to me like the teal they’re using now is a bit brighter than the teal on those throwbacks. Anyway, I have eyes and I prefer their current set. Having said that, I’ll add that there’s no reason for the Jags to even be in the NFL. But that’s a fish to fry somewhere else.
They need to put that “prowler” on the helmet! DDDDUUUUUVVAALLL
Three words: Make them permanent!
Love the throwback uniforms! Their current uniforms are so plain, IMO.
