Previewing The NFL’s Week 5 Sunday Uniform Matchups (UPDATED)

There should be quite a slate of interesting uniform matchups this Sunday, including three uniforms making their NFL debuts, and one team breaking out a heretofore never worn combo — as shown above. For those into the athletic aesthetic, this promises to be a big weekend for NFL Uni Watching. And it’ll be a full day for it too, since the NFL kicks off their International Series Sunday morning, with the first game between the Jets and Vikings kicking off at 9:30 am (ET).

__________

Jets vs. Vikings

Sunday’s early game will feature the Vikings in head-to-toe purple, while the Jets will sport their white jersey/white pants look.

__________

Bengals vs. Ravens

The Bengals, who added a new set of orange pants this off season, will pair them with their orange helmets, black jerseys and black socks, to create a brand new uniform combo. Their opponents, the Baltimore Ravens, will counter with a white jerseys and purple pants, making this game a color palette special.

__________

Bills vs. Texans

The Texans new “H-Town Blue” uniforms will make their long-awaited debut in this game. The Bills will counter the all midnight-navy ensemble with an all-white combo of their own. There won’t be a contrast problem in this game.

__________

Panthers vs. Bears

As of this writing the Panthers have not declared their pants color. With the Bears in their regular home uniforms, hopefully Carolina will wear their Process Blue pants (or even black pants, provided they wear contrasting hosiery).

UPDATE: The Panthers will wear black pants and socks

__________

Browns vs. Commanders

Neither team has as yet declared their pants choices, so this has the potential to be a very good looking game. With the Browns in their white jerseys, any of their three pants options (white, orange or brown) would look good.

UPDATE: The Commanders will wear gold pants and the Browns will wear white pants

__________

Colts vs. Jaguars

In one of the most anticipated uni throwback games of the year, the Jacksonville Jaguars will debut their “Prowler” throwbacks against the Colts, who’ll look resplendent in their road whites. Although they haven’t declared their pants preference, I can’t see them going anything other than white britches for this game. Whether they wear white or blue hosiery is the more pressing question. Should be one of the best looking games all year!

__________

Dolphins vs. Patriots

Unfortunately, the Patriots, who are wearing their blue jerseys, have elected not to go with their silver/gray pants, so this game will be all white vs all navy (below the neck). It’s one of several games to be mono vs. mono.

__________

Cardinals vs. 49ers

Although the photo above is from 2023, the teams will wear identical uniforms on Sunday. I know some of you don’t like the Cardinals new uniforms, but I think their white road kit is actually one of the better mono-white looks in the NFL. I just wish they’d wear red socks. Even so, this game should be a real looker!

UPDATE #1: At the time of publication, the GUD had the 49ers listed in their regular home uniforms. However, on Monday of this week, they petitioned the NFL to let them wear their white throwbacks, due to the expected high temperatures. The NFL denied their request, but will allow them to wear their red throwback uniform, which they will wear. Apparently they feel the white pants will keep them cooler than their regular gold pants. So, this game won’t look like the above photo. The Niners better wear their red socks with the white pants, or this game will have two white pants/socks teams. And that will definitely boot it out of any 5 & 1 consideration.

UPDATE #2: The Niners will wear white socks with their throwbacks.

__________

Raiders vs. Broncos

The Broncos will wear their incredible Orange Crush throwbacks twice this season: once against the Raiders and the other against the Chiefs (two original AFL compatriots). While the Raiders haven’t declared their uniform yet, whether they go with their regular roads or their throwbacks will still make for what should be the best looking game of the week, and possibly the year.

__________

Packers vs. Rams

Normally I don’t ever want to see the Rams wear their “dishwater” (bone) pants — or jerseys for that matter — but it’s the best possible pairing since the Pack will be gold/white/gold. If the Rams were to wear their yellow (sol) pants, which are not the same shade as the Packers’ gold, it could make for a bad look. And LA in mono-blue is a terrible look. So…we should be getting the best possible uni pairings here.

__________

Giants vs. Seahawks

If only this game were in the Meadowlands instead of Seattle. But because it’s a home game for the Seahawks, we’ll see them in their traditional home mono-navy, and the Giants will be in their (way too red heavy) road whites.

__________

Cowboys vs. Steelers

Hopefully the Steelers will wear their regular “home” uniforms, but with the Cowboys in their regular home kits, this classic uniform pairing should end Sunday night with another great matchup!

Steelers in black beating the Cowboys in white….. and all is right in the world again for a moment. ahhh

I hate The dark color mono uniforms ugly Can’t stand them My favorite is the All white mono uniforms They look great on TV stand out professional look But the Dark mono suck especially all black it’s terrible.

Lots of things can happen between now and Monday night, but I’m already voting the Texans/Bills as the worst combo of the week.

Under no known or even conceivable circumstance could the Browns turd pants be said to look “good.”

Meanwhile, Bengals-Ratbirds nail down the Butt-Ugly Game of the Week dishonors.

I actually think the Bengals orange pants are pretty sweet. I think paired with the white jerseys, could “color up” some road games.

Totally agree re the Browns. Turd pants with no stripes completes the Mr. Hankey below look. They should NEVER wear those.

And, the Vikes in all purple? Vomit. Imagine how great this game would look with the Vikes in their home throwbacks and the Jets in white sack exchange. Would have been nice.

The Browns don’t have stripeless brown pants anymore. They have an orange/brown/orange stripe, and they’re worn with fantastic striped socks:

That said, of white, orange or brown, the brown pants are my least favorite. But they’re far better than the pants a lot of teams wear, and they never go yoga pants with them

I hated the Browns’ brown pants that had no stripes from a few years back. But their current brown pants with the orange stripes and the white striped socks looks nice. I agree they look better in orange or white pants but once or twice I year I don’t mind seeing the brown pants depending on who they are matched up against.

Brown pants need some white splashed in there somewhere. They are just too bland. Other than that, they have a solid uniform!!!!!!!!

The Cardinals all white is their only good looking uniform, and they should also wear this for home games. They look good, but too much like Ohio State with the gray. This would have been better if instead of gray they went with black, or maybe even yellow to match the bird beak.

I agree totally. The silver stripes don’t come across well on TV and from a distance. They don’t b

As far as the Texans color rush, way too busy, I get a headache every time I look at them.

While the home unis are growing on me, the Texans new set is awful and the “H-Town” unis are easily the worst. Not looking forward to having to watch this game.

If you ware going to go mono-uni, the Cardinals have the best set. I just wish they would pair those pants with the red jerseys for home games.

The silver stripes on the Cards uniforms don’t come off well from a distance or on TV. The middle stripes should be black they would have a better pop. I like the yellow being incorporated from the beak, nice secondary color blending in.

“(Cardinals) white road kit is actually one of the better mono-white looks in the NFL”
    Exacta-mundo! Perhaps the best…YVVM.
More folks are coming around – slowly but surely!

Somewhat related—I was a *huge* fan of Arizona’s early-2000s road look. One of the more underrated uniforms in NFL history.

Agree with others: I don’t get the Cards’ silver stripe stuff. Black and red stripes would look fantastic with the all white combo. And, they could simply go white/red/white at home and look great also, but they want the shitty white/red/red o tard at home.

49ers tried to switch to their throwback white jerseys and pants for this week (due to the heatwave), but the NFL denied their request. So they will be switching to their red throwbacks with the white pants instead of their usual red and gold home uniforms. link

I know that light colors are cooler than dark colors, but does it really make that much of a difference? I feel like people make a bigger deal out of it than the effect actually warrants.

“ If the Rams were to wear their yellow (sol) pants, which are not the same shade as the Packers’ gold, it could make for a bad look”

Yellow pants are the only pants the Rams should wear…all other pants are quite ugly

This purple ad that keeps popping up on the sides of the page every 10 seconds is absolutely brutal
