Carolina Hurricanes Release 2024-25 Uniform Schedule

The NHL is mere weeks away from beginning play for the 2024-25 season, which means some teams will be unveiling their uniform schedules, as the Carolina Hurricanes have now done.

Fans of multiple looks will be pleased to learn the Canes will wear four different sweaters over the course of 82 games.

After making their black sweaters their primary home option ahead of the 2022-23 season, the club will wear them 26 times.

The red sweaters that were featured as the primary home jersey from 2017-2022 and returned as the team’s alternates last season will once again serve as alternates, and will be worn 15 times

According to the team, Carolina will again wear their white jerseys for most of their road games. However, “Select dates may require Carolina to wear black on the road, however, should that arise, occasions will be announced at a later date.”

You’ll note in the photo above, the Hurricanes are pairing their red helmets with the white jerseys (part of a new trend in hockey where road teams pair color helmets with white sweaters). The team still has the white helmet option, but did not specify which games will feature which helmets.

And in what is fantastic news for those who love throwbacks, the team will again wear their “White Whale(r)” throwbacks for one game, on Thursday, February 27 against the Buffalo Sabres. Last year, the team warmed up wearing “Cooperalls” but hasn’t announced if they’ll do so again this year.

The Blues released their uniform schedule yesterday as well. Looks like the Winter Classic uniform will be worn 3 times.

They need make their red jerseys the primary again. The black is cool as an alternate but it just doesn’t feel right as a primary uniform. Their road uniform also needs serious help. That wordmark is NOT GOOD and with the red helmets it looks like a warmup jersey.

I agree with a lot of this. My solution is they go back to the originals. They threw back to them recently. Consistent look both at home and on the road. Primary logo on the chest. It’s their classic. Red head-to-toe trimmed with black and a bit of silver is their signature.

The black jerseys have characteristics for a third (as it was meant to be) and has characteristics which do not make it a good primary NHL jersey. Ghosted and differing shoulder logos. The grey. The logo on front with its shape does not sit well as a main crest.

“…the team will again wear their “White Whale(r)” throwbacks for one game…”
How soon will it be until Carolina is accused of trolling Hartford fan(s)?
    ; )

Probably the only times the Hurricanes will pair white helmets with white sweaters is against teams who wear red helmets as part of their home uniforms – with an exception. Maybe the Western Canada swing, for example, might involve white helmets because Calgary wears red helmets at home, for example. One less headache for the equipment managers to worry about in the desert since the Coyotes are now in SLC and wearing black at home.

Black at home has become a staple, though the number of times they’re wearing the red alts indicates that the fans like both. Agree with Reino in that while the white sweaters are different, the diagonal wordmark should stay with the Rangers – they made it theirs long before the Hurricanes went with this idea. It would help if the organization went back to either the primary or hurricane flag logo. But they’re promoting it as three sweaters with three distinctly different logos on the front – good or otherwise.

As for “trolling Hartford fans,” talk to Tom Dundon about that one. Peter Karmanos wouldn’t touch it with Zdeno Chara’s hockey stick because he probably knew what kind of damage he had done. Dundon views the Whalers sweaters strictly as another way to make money.

I love throwbacks, but Carolina wearing Hartford’s jerseys is not “fantastic news” to me. The jerseys and history belong in CT and I’d rather never see them again than see the Hurricanes wear them.
