The NFC South is comprised of the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While none of the teams in this division have announced any uniform changes for 2024, there is still plenty of uni goodness in the Division, including three teams with fantastic throwbacks. Read on for more!
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons have no announced uniform changes for 2024.
After redesigning in 2020, the Falcons introduced a whole stable of uniform options with a modern design. They’ve since pared this down considerably, eliminating the red-gradient jersey, and never wearing the red pants option.
Their primary uniform are now the black jersey for home games and white jersey for the road, and they will often mix-and-match the white and black pants, going mono-black and white below the neck as often as they wear white over black or black over white.
If you look at the above graphic showing all the Falcons uniform possibilities (the 2020 set), you’ll note the player on the right is wearing a fauxback uniform, with a black helmet, and based on the design of the team’s original uniforms from 1966. This was back in the time that the NFL had its one-shell rule, so the team was forced to create a “throwback” that never existed. That all changed in 2022, when the NFL lifted the one-shell restriction, allowing the team to introduce a second shell. The result was the ability to recreate their gorgeous 1966-era throwback uniform (which they had worn prior to the NFL’s adoption of the one-shell rule in 2013).
Fans and folks with eyes love this uniform, and is a perfect example of why the lifting of the one-shell restriction greatly benefits some teams.
Last season, the Falcons (finally) ditched their gradient-red alternate jersey for good, instead treating fans to the 1966 throwback uniform the maximum allowable number of times — three. There are several teams who wear throwbacks that we routinely say “Just make those permanent,” and the Falcons are definitely one of those teams. With the current Falcons uniform set entering its fifth season, the team can redesign for the 2025 season, and many fans would love for the team to make the throwback their primary uniform, adding a white jersey in the 1966 style for the roads.
Following the protocol they established last season, this year the Falcons will again wear their throwbacks three times. Those three games will be in Week 4 (September 29th) against the Saints, again in Week 5 (October 3rd), in a Thursday Night Football scuffle versus the Tampa Bay Bucs, and one last time in Week 16 (December 22nd), against the Giants.
While the team has announced no plans for new uniforms in 2025, former Dirty Bird Jamal Anderson is leading the charge for the team to redesign their uniforms.
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have no announced uniform changes for 2024.
Since entering the league in 1995, the Panthers have kept the same basic uniform design and colors, with only minor tweaks to each over the years. Their original silver helmet remains and for the first several years of their existence, the team wore black jerseys over silver/gray pants, and white jerseys over white pants. Eventually the team added an alternate Process blue jersey, which they would wear over the silver/grays. Beginning in 2012, the team began adding additional pants options, when they added a set of black pants they would pair with the black jersey. In 2015, when the NFL began the Color Rush program, the team added a blue pants option.
They would drop the blue pants as an option after 2017, and began mixing and matching more often in 2018, for the first time pairing both the white and blue jerseys with black pants. All this time, the team basically stuck with the same uniform design and colors. With the lifting of the single shell rule in 2022, the Panthers added a black helmet to their repertoire. They would wear that with their all black uniform.
One of what for the Panthers qualifies as a big uniform change occurred prior to last season, when the team changed its uniform template and were able to “correct” their blue jersey color to Process blue (which had been their original shade of blue, but Nike had been unable to manufacture it correctly until 2023).
There is one slight addition to the Panthers’ uniforms this year, and you can see it in the splash photo at the top of the Panthers section. The team is celebrating their 30th Season this year, and they have added a 30 Seasons patch to the jersey. Here’s a better look at that:
Earlier this year the team produced a video looking back at their uniforms over the past 30ish years — and you can note how little the unis have changed over the years.

Although the uniforms have remained fairly consistent, the Panthers have made changes to their logo over the years. Here’s a good piece on that.
The Panthers have released their jersey schedule for 2024.

If you’re a fan of the Panthers’ white jersey, you’re in luck — they plan to wear it 11 times this season, while they’ll wear the black jersey four time and the Process blue twice. The team does not announce a pants schedule, nor whether the team will wear the black alternate helmet. Since it was introduced two seasons ago, the Panthers have worn their black helmets once per season.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints have no announced uniform changes for 2024.
Although they haven’t made any uni changes, something interesting happened during the preseason: the Saints wore their gold pants in all three games (once with the black jersey and twice with the white). In the past several seasons, the team had increasingly been pairing the black jerseys with their black pants, and the white jersey with their white pants. Whether they’ll wear the gold pants more (hopefully) remains to be seen.
In addition to their black and white jerseys, the Saints have black, gold and white pants. They also have a Color Rush uniform which doubled a bit as a fauxback. When the NFL lifted the one shell rule in 2022, the Saints then added a black helmet which they began pairing with the fauxfack.
They wore the black helmet once in 2022, against the Vikings, and once in 2023, versus the Falcons, who themselves were wearing throwbacks. The normally brutal matchup of Atlanta and New Orleans yielded a very pleasurable aesthetic experience.
In addition, the Saints reintroduced their 1967-68 throwback in 2022.
The would wear this gorgeous uniform once in 2022, against the Rams and once last year, versus the Panthers. Of course, there are many fans who would love for the Saints to “make these permanent,” along with the white fauxback. To date, the Saints have given no indication of any such plans.
Unfortunately, the Saints don’t release a jersey or uniform schedule, so at present it isn’t known whether they will wear either alternate uniform this season. Apparently the black helmet with the color rush uniform is not popular, so it’s believed the black helmet will not be worn this year. The throwbacks, on the other hand, are very popular, so perhaps the team will wear them more than once.
While the Saints haven’t announced any plans to introduce a third helmet in 2025, they are looking into options.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs have no announced uni changes for 2024.
In addition to the red and white jerseys seen above, which the team will mix and match with the pewter and white pants, the Buccaneers also have a mono-pewter Color Rush uniform. This has been a part of the Buccaneers current uniform set since it was introduced for the 2020 season.
The team has worn the all pewter uniform once every season since its introduction.
And in one of the best returns in all of football, once the NFL lifted the one-shell rule in 2022, it made the Buccaneers eligible to add a white shell so they could wear their awesome “Bucco Bruce” throwbacks. While they didn’t do so in 2022, last year the Creamsicles made their glorious return. THIS is the reason the one-shell rule was lifted: so we could have nice things like the Bucs, Patriots and Falcons to bring back their throwbacks (all three teams wore them prior to the one-shell rule being lifted). It also allowed for teams like the Seahawks and Eagles to wear throwbacks they’d never worn.
It was worth the wait.
While the Bucs haven’t released a full uniform schedule for 2024, they have announced they will wear the creamsicle throwbacks again this year. They’ll wear them in Week 8 (October 27th) against the Atlanta Falcons.
Each of the Bucs nine home games this season will be themed.
Perhaps if the Falcons’ red helmet throwback didn’t exist, I would find their current set passable, if a bit minor league-ish. But next to that throwback, nothing looks good.
Their current set doesn’t look good, period. It looks like Generic Football Team. It’s a create-a-franchise preset in a video game. And that giant “ATL” gets more ridiculous every time you look at it.
Completely forgot the Falcons red pants. Also, that gradient uniform should have never seen the light of day.
Every team in this division has at least one uniform in its arsenal that is among the NFL’s best.
“After redesigning in 2020,…They’ve since pared(this)down considerably, …never wearing the red pants option.”
Gotta hand it to Atlanta in that regard!!
It’s high time they wore the ‘76-‘77s.
Like the pointier striping on the Panthers jersey – WTG Nike ; )…while I generally like the white-over-white, hope the silver pants make an appearance with the white tops one day.
NO’s throws are one of my favorites(no issues with mismatched helmet color), and a Bucco Bruce cameo is always great.
The 1990s black helmet and 1980s falcons uniforms would be ideal, but I don’t think they have ever done it
The Panthers white over white with blue socks is there best combo and should be worn more often also the blue jersey with white pants looks awesome as well. Dump the matt black helmet and black pants. The Falcons 1980’s Red/Silver looks way better then the 2024 throwback. The Saints need to change the number color to white on the black jersey and wear the gold pants at least 12 games per year. I’m not impressed with the throwback.
I don’t the black helmet for the Saints, so I hope they will stick to the plan of not wearing it this season, and hopefully never again.
A bit of a controversial comment here: The falcons throwbacks are overrated. Yes, I said it. They are DEFINITELY better than the current uniform ( which SUCKS ) but to truly be great they need to be red instead of black for starters. ( the falcons always look best in red over red with white pants ) The other thing is their original logo is outdated and looks low quality. Their current logo is amazing and modern it just gets flak because the uniforms it’s been worn with all suck. If the falcons kept their current logo and made the throwback jersey red, THEN the falcons uniforms would be truly elite.
Agree. Red jerseys with the red helmets are far superior to black jerseys. White or gray pants look good.
Are we getting close to the 5 year mark for this Falcons set. Please tell me yes
I can’t believe after all these years the saints can’t get a synchronized color with the throwback helmet and rest of uni. The Giants do it. That would just mean a third helmet as several teams have.
To me, that’s part of the appeal. It’s how it looked back then, when people paid less attention to such things. Like the Yankees and Tigers having multiple versions of their logo.
